  1. John - very probably, I'm certainly confused 😀 I had assumed that the way that the active input cut the volume by -10dB compared to the passive input, on a bass amp, was by reducing the signal strength and doing so by having a higher impedance. But that's obviously very simplistic and incorrect.
  2. Sadly it didn't come with a USB or a PSU! But your point doesn't quite fit the fact that ToneLib can send and receive data from the pedal via my USB cable, it's just Zoom's GuitarLab that can't.
  3. I've found the following comments on the net. The active input is "padded", meaning that it has less gain to accommodate active basses with higher output. They also usually have different impedance, but it's mostly high enough so you can plug in either input. Passive inputs have higher impedance, since its impedance should be 10-times higher than the impedance of the incoming signal. This avoids loss of highs due to impedance mismatch. An active input generally has -10 db the volume of the passive one (meaning it's half as loud). If you plug an active bass into the passive input and play loud, you'll probably clip the preamp, causing distortion. This doesn't hurt the amp unless you do it constantly, but it usually sounds terrible. Unless you're too quiet, use the active jack. The second backs up your point, the third ties into what I was thinking, so I'm not 100% clearer on this point!
  4. Bit of a frustrating evening - downloaded GuitarLab so I could access the Low EQ patch, but unlike ToneLib it just isn't picking up that my B1X-4 is connected up. Ugh!! Probably missed something very basic...
  5. Well must admit, I'd have been a bit gobsmacked if it was anything other than a Class D amp.
  6. Who cares about what it sounds like? If it's loud enough it's gonna be good for metal. At the end of the day, surely that's all that matters? (And football).
  7. Ah the possibility of a free upgrade to Delanos. Now you're talking dB! 😂😁🤣
  8. £50 to £100 is not a big amount in that context I agree. I had a figure of £300 to £500 in my head for new pups new EQ and fitting.
  9. Yup straight DI no pre / post EQ. Can't recall whether the bass was being played actively or passively now. I'm not about to order a Berg, and therefore definitely not minded to contact them, because (i) I'm very happy with my existing basses and (ii) I don't want to pay custom shop prices to get the feature set on a Berg I'd like! Simples. But I'm also surprised that none of the Berg aficionados know what the cost of a decent VM5 or VT5 California Berg would be with Haussel pups and a decent 3 band EQ - as this might be of interest to others; but for now that can remain a mystery - I'm sure we will all live! 😀 Q for the OP: are the 'Average White Band' the best ever Scottish rock group?
  10. Nope - selling as I bought it i.e. just what's in the picture
  11. Ok you're gonna need to walk me through that as it seems the wrong way around! Where an amp has separate 'active' input and 'passive' inputs, the active input is usually a higher impedence input. So, similarly, I would be expecting an active bass to go into a high impedance input on a mixer but a passive bass more likely to be ok not doing so?
  12. Did you mean active bass dB?
  13. DI box only really required if your mixer / PA gear requires a balanced input. If your mixer has a high impedance input you should be able to go straight into that.
  14. Joyo ZGP (courtesy @operative451) to sort out noisy PSU input. Behringer DI (courtesy @jrixn1) to provide a DI out when needed. Total additional cost - around £25 Complete one-stop shop sorted (and add the X-rated wah-pedal version if you want some additional fun)! 😀
  15. I'm sure you're correct, but I don't quite follow why adding e.g. alternative pups should be a lot of work on a website? It could be as simple as a note saying 'Black Labels, no additional cost', 'Haüssel’s +£100'; particularly if you can't actually order off the site and it's for information purposes only? But maybe there's a commercial reason why Berg don't want to advertise that alternative pups are an option, although I can't immediately think why!
  16. +1^^ The electronics would be the most important 'option' for me: so if Berg are indeed facilitating getting electronics that you want (which is great) being able to see at a glance what the choices and options on the configurator are would be very useful.
  17. How much more would a customised Berg bass cost in comparison to an equivalent 'stock' model eg if you wanted black label pups rather than stock Delanos? Wasn't clear to me from the 'configurator' that you could actually choose electronics in that way, but I may have missed something.
  18. Took the B1X-4 to rehearsal last night. Used the studio's slightly muddy Ashdown rig. I've tried really hard to like Ashdown RM heads and their cabs but not yet found ones I've really liked; I guess I've been a bit spoiled by my VK and BF cabs! I ended up only using 3 of the original patches: A-wah, Jaco (just for a bit of fun) and Dark Crunch to help cut through with the slightly muddy rig. But the pedal has had its first outing and it was a very good way to introduce bandmates to their bass player becoming 'effected' 😁 Looking forward to setting up some bespoke patches over the weekend.
  19. I've owned / played several combos before including IMO one of the very best, the MB AC 121 Lite. But if I was in the market for a combo this would definitely be it! The feature set for the money seems to me to be unrivalled: 400W stand alone, and a whopping 800W with an extension cab (and will happily pair with either an 8 ohm or 4 ohm extension cab); 2x10 speakers; wide choice of on board effects, foot-switch; bespoke Hotcovers cover. All at around 40 lbs weight! And you don't have to look very far to come across recommendations from a lot of happy BCers who own / have owned Fender Rumbles Having met and bought from him, I can also vouch that Mark is a top guy who looks after his gear!
  20. Dave - I got asked something similar a week back, so I'm going to take a short cut and pull up my earlier post! The 434 is a more basic version of the P34. They are both configured pretty much the same in terms of P/J and VVT EQ. The pups, body construction, some of the materials and finish have all been upgraded in the P34 in comparison to the 434 and this is reflected in the price differential. However another entirely fair view is that the 'workhorse' end of the range often benefits from a lot of the design and features of their higher end siblings and end up being very good value. That was certainly felt with the series '2' when a lot of folk couldn't really understand the pricing difference between an £800 1024 and a £2,000+ 2024. I ended up with, and still have, the 1025 (rather than the 2025) for that very reason. But having recently been able to purchase a pretty mint used P35, I'll have to admit that of my 5 Yammys and 10 basses, it's the one I'm currently finding I want to pick up and play - I'm loving it! Not sure how long the honeymoon is going to last, but I'm enjoying it whilst it does!
  21. Ok fair do's They are listing some old '2' series basses, which I thought had been discontinued, i.e. the 2024/X and of course the BB NE2 The top of the current '3' series BB range, which are all P/J configured, is the P34 which is obviously a lot less than nearly £3k.
  22. @dmccombe7 not sure where you got your £2,800 figure from?! (Unless it's a discontinued bass?) Knock £1,500 off figure that and you'll be nearer the mark I'm sure you would love a P34. I'm totally loving my P35.
  23. Isn't there a Berg 'Basic' range which is the entry level Berg or is that still the Electra?
  24. Dave - just pulling your Yammy query over onto this Yammy thread. The latest '3' series Yammy BB basses come with set P/J pups (i.e. no choice of pups); the more expensive basses have slightly upgraded pups to the 'workhorse' end of the range. Unlike the older series, I understand that the '3' series pups are more industry standard in their fit to make swapping them out for alternatives easier, should anyone want to. Must admit I really like them the way the are - they work really well for me. But not really a fair comparison with Bergs - not sure what a 'Basic' Berg costs, but a new BB 434, which seems to me to be a very good bass, can be bought new for around £450 - so if you want to upgrade pups and / or preamp you would still have plenty of change from £1k
  25. Cool! Is this the new firmware that @Quatschmacher has been referring to, or is that coming later?
