Ha, I didn't clock that! Was it Dimarzio trying to deflect sales? 😄
Nah, it was just 2 lads upset at paying £19.99 then having to spend 2 minutes turning a magnet and adding a spot of glue.
The Artec is not competing with Dimarzio, it's a proper mudbucker.
DiMarzio are up against Sentell and their "UnMudbucker" tm 😁

Have you tried popping the strings off and seeing they've not twisted ?
@hooky_lowdown 's advice might be the answer
I had an overly quiet A string after installing the monster split single, wound to 29.9k ohm and up there in terms of mud 👍 Advice I got include string witness points, twists etc.
I remember those Artec/magnet posts, thought it was a massive problem as every mention of Artec had the magnet reverse post attached.
Turned out the same 2 lads were on a global mission to warn all potential Artec buyers 🤣

I haven't tried one, but the Dimarzio Model One seems to be the de-facto mudbucker problem solver.
Aye, the problem they are designed to solve being "mud". 😀
Lifted direct from the Model One Tech Talk.
"Warm, full tone, no mud."

Spring for the JB-75 but have a comfortable chair when you practise, they are quite heavy.
Never played the JB-20 though a friend in Kenya reckons it's just fine, he sold the 75 because of the weight.
As for the JB-75, it's a rock solid bass and outstanding value for money. Looks like a jazz bass, plays like one and sounds like one 😀
If I was buying another it would be the sunburst/pau ferro again.

Looks fantastic John, yer a lucky fella 👍

If he had a hand in design then it would be minimal. Sire are an offshoot of Dame Guitars and they were selling those basses prior to Marcus getting involved.

Fair play to him, I’m glad that my natural cynicism was misplaced this time.
Nothing wrong with natural cynicism, its healthy 😉

Seem to recall part of Sire's profits are invested in school music departments, Marcus was happy to help this along by lending his name.

Pickguard arrived today! Very happy.
Well done @kodiakblair and well done to your guy. Fantastic job.
Thanks for the update.
Brian's too busy to spend time on bass forums so I'll let him know 🙂
My mate ordered a plain black for his stealth mode PB-20, will be the weekend before I get around to fitting it.
Need to talk him out of the Entwistle first 🤣

That Peavey looks nice, but I guess I’d have to wait for one to pop up for sale.
Think it's time I get my site subs up to date, you may not have to wait for long 😃

I have a soft spot for Kent Armstrong P Bass pups, but honestly I'm so lucky that I really like the HP pick ups and don't want to change them
I'm with you there Stew.
Last week I was asked to put an Entwistle neo in a mate's PB-20, I think it's overkill. I much prefer how Alan just went with a standard wire count and stronger magnet to boost the output as opposed to SD going with a higher wire count, and the resulting change in tone, for their boost.
Entwistles can be a bit overpowering but that's why we have a vol pot 😃

Aye @stewblack
After Entwistle Neos, I just shake my head when hearing folks say Duncan QP's are loud 😀

Sounds like the Entwhistle pickups are indeed a more modern flavour.
They're certainly loud. Scary loud tbh.
When I A/B'd them against Duncan QP's , the mixer showed a huge jump in output.
Duncan QP
Entwistle Neos
BTW. That's same bass, same strings, same pickup heights and same recording settings.

Another pleasant exchange with Lozz.
Me parting with a paltry sum and Lozz sending me an A string retainer, arrived so fast I think Pony Bob Haslam delivered it 🙂
Cheers pal 👍

Yet another P-bass neck arrived from the top man that is Ross.

I've one of the US ones on the way . When it arrives I'll have a better idea of the size.
Plan is get some ring crimp terminals of the correct size then plate them. Largest I can find so far take a 20mm stud.
What do you think the ferrule diameter is ?
Could be as simple as popping the ferrule out, slip the crimping ring over it then slipping it back on the peghead.

@Beer of the Bass
The double bass side didn't take kindly to my " what's the best glue to attach fake tiger fur ?", "Bettie Page or Flaming 8 sticker ?" met a similar response 😕
My guess was they were too busy deciding if $15k could buy a starter bass or were they still just BSO (bass shaped objects) at that price.
