1. Star wars imperial march and the lttle tune that the aliens in close encounters play must be up there, but I'd stake money on the classic Nokia default ringtone being the most ubiquitous and recognisable as it isn't closely tied to cultural references that might include/exclude certain age groups/interests etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7kLNJWTDYA
2. Just had a listen through all this months offerings, interesting and varied selection - I'm going to have to give them all some more listens before voting.
3. Little bit late, had a busy evening and got back about 11:45, figured I'd try and make a noodle, missed the dealine slightly but here it is anyway. https://soundcloud.com/user-623375481/too-much-cheese-before-bedtime
4. Do you like to boost bass frequencies (either on the amp or active bass onboard eq)? Very often when people complain about being inaudible or their amps crapping out, the culprit turns out to be silly EQ settings - not saying this is the case in your situation, but before you jump to the conclusion that you need more amp/cab, it might be worth investigating your EQ and FX use. If you are feeding the power section of the amp a lot of very low frequency information it will use your headroom up very quickly.
5. The key question IMHO is do you want to gig? If the answer to that question is no, then you are much better off spending your cash on things like room treatment, decent active studio monitors (which will reproduce low frequencies and get plenty loud) and top quality DI, all of which will really enhance your recording experience(and still work for practising).
6. Try going here http://www.m-audio.com/support/drivers and just download from the manufacturer.
7. What does one do to a bass to get wear on the inside of the upper horn both front and back? (in the normal course of wear and tear as opposed to 'relicing')
8. Lots of firewire interfaces have been hitting the used market (not just RME) because apple has abandoned firewire, drivers are not functioning with recent OS updates and you need specific chipsets on PCI and PCIE expansion cards for many of these interfaces to function correctly(or at all) even if you can run the drivers in compatibility mode. Basically the problem is that technology has moved on, and people are torn between running older software versions of DAWS/VSTs on older computers and being locked in to that feature set forever, and updating their DAW machines to take advantage of newer software which is forcing them to dump older hardware due to lack of ongoing driver support or hardware compatibility issues. RME have a really good reputation for supporting their products in the long term, but there may be other issues depending on what platform you are using (mac/PC) and what specific harware and software you are running - Google is your friend.
9. The recording sounds OK to me on my speakers - are you hearing a big difference between the low end representation in the room and what the ipad mic is picking up if you listen back on decent speakers?
10. Well no Huey on the judging panel this year so maybe no WTF 'why is the bouncy castle kid with the big hair being put through to the semi-final' moment.
11.
Thing is the names aren't the same. Registering "Till Dawn" would not stop a band called "awake till dawn" because the copyright doesn't give you the rights to any other names that contain your name plus other words, only if another band has exactly the same name. I could start a band called "Paris In Flames" and I might get a sh*tty letter from the band "In Flames" but it's unlikely they could actually do a damn thing about it.
Equally, there is nothing to stop one party registering both 'till dawn' and 'awake till dawn' to force the issue - at £170 per name registration to give a undisputable legal position it might be more economical than letters from solicitors.
12. Nothing stopping you from registering your name if you feel it has value, nothing stopping them from registering it either. http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/13339519.Pub_band_forced_to_drop_name_after_copyright_dispute_with_record_label/
13. Being the boss isn't the same as being an employee - when you've been responsible for making the hard decisions, paying the wages and having your employees actions reflect and impact directly on your personal reputation, everything has a different perspective because the consequences scale differently.
14. On a four string, you have 4 choices to play that G, open G, 5th fret D string, 10th fret A string, 15th fret E string, where you choose to play that note is going to be influenced by the other notes that immediately precede and follow it. There are usually multiple ways to approach the fingering for a musical phrase, some might be easier physically, others might be desirable for reasons of timbre (those 4 Gs all sound different even if they are the same pitch). Bach cello suites are a real technical challenge, and not really by any stretch of the imagination beginner friendly - if you do want to persevere with learning the prelude to suite 1 (which is a sublime bit of music) I would suggest that it might be a better idea to use the original cello score and play it at written pitch (so you would start with G at third fret on the E string, then open D string, then B and A on the G string etc) staying down near the nut and utilising open strings wherever possible.
15. Why stop at two basses? You have two hands, two feet + other body parts which could be used to hit strings with - no reason why you couldn't play a big rack of basses like a vibraphone if you felt so inclined.
16. A zoom B1on + sennheiser 201s would work out cheaper than the vox headphones.
17.
I have just shown my friend all the noodles, and asked his opinion on the 3 he'd vote for.
Make him join the forum with his own profile and vote.
18. I don't vote for myself, but it wouldn't bother me if other people wanted to vote for themselves for whatever reason I wouldn't have a problem with it - the most important thing IMHO is that the noodles get listened to. The main issue with the voting is general lack of participation from the forum populace.
19. The reason that Mr Fossgreen is playing them way up the neck is because that is the pitch at which the music was written - try compare to a recording of the same suite by a cellist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGQLXRTl3Z0 Bassists and cellists read from the same clef, but the notes sound an octave apart, if double bass parts were written at the correct pitch they would require excessive use of ledger lines for the most commonly played notes in the lowest octave. If you look at the PDF that Josh has on the webpage you linked and compare to the cello score from the cello music site you linked, you'll see that josh has transposed the score up an octave.
20. Maybe you need to ask yourself what you are trying to achieve with your videos - it's difficult to give good constructive criticism without knowing what you are trying to achieve, e.g. a good performance video of you rocking out would have different criteria to a more educational playalong aimed at showing viewers clearly how to play the song in question.
21. If Billy Sheehan or the bass player from Royal Blood recorded a noodle using their biamped live rigs which run two separate sounds originating from a single instrument, would that count as having two tracks?
22. This months offering https://soundcloud.com/user-623375481/hypnotized I decided to dust of the zoom B3 and experiment with recording the acoustic sound of the double bass at the same time as my amp to create a textured noodle, I set up the zoom H2N between my amp and double bass to try and make everything a bit more 3 dimensional, and ran the signal from my piezo pickup through a bit crusher, octaver and step sequencer effects on the B3.
23. When you use your plug, are you putting it in your ear before things get noisy? The hearing specialist I went to when I got my moulds taken had me come back when the plugs arrived, and fit the plugs in his office and just sit and talk with him for 10 mins or so, which wasn't a problem (I have the 29db filters). His advice with regard to rehearsal/gigs was to fit the plugs before things get noisy, to give my ears and brain a chance to adjust, and avoid issues with temporary threshold shift(your ears reduce their sensitivity when exposed to loud noises and don't immediately return to normal).
