1. I have listened to almost EVERYTHING Jaco has done and the stuff that stands head and shoulders above everything else is the Joni Mitchell era. I have got my mitts on a couple of recordings of those tours and its different every night. Which is hard first time you hear them because "shadows and light" is burned into most fans brains. I agree with Bilbo when there is no strong leader for Jaco to push against it didnt bode well. I've also heard that Jaco auditioned for the dream of the blue turtles band and dominated the material . Kirkland , marsalis, hakim ,Jaco and Sting !!!! Would've like to have heard those tapes !!
2. Her album is Fantastic !!! I dont think she checked her position once there !!!!! Puts xfactor and dancing on crack into perspective !
3. Nice one mate , sounds good . Now you just have to get the basstrainer out and start learning !!! Hope friday goes well
4.
tbh, I sorta see slapping & popping on bass as pretty much equivalent to bikers doing wheelies. I can't do it, but I'm slightly envious of those who can. I'd like to be able to do it, and although there's no place for it in the music I enjoy listening to and/or playing, I imagine it could be quite refreshing to change to a completely different technique when noodling. I also get a sense of percieved inadequacy. By that I mean that those of us who can't do it are somehow percieved as in some way inadequate by those who can. When I go into a music store and hear someone slap & pop on a bass, I'll leave. It's intimidating and I know I can't compete. But it does sound good and as I said, I'd like to be able to do it. Just for fun.
Oh i can slap like a monster (vail johnson,,ish) its just switching into slap in a ballad for five notes (usually three by the way ) doesnt come across as very musical. Think of "My girl" riddled with triplets and popped harmonics !!!
5. Hope your feeling better and everything goes well on the recovery front ! BUT just in case it doesnt ,first dibs on his Status collection !!
6. Well done Ashdown !
7.
Songs without lyrics shouldn't have names? What like 90% of classical, 70% of Jazz and plenty from every other style under the sun? Anthony and all the musicians in this band have played with tons of singes, groups and bands. I don't hear sterile playing, I hear top musicians (not just technically either) playing good music. I've transcribed and can play most of the songs from the CD this track comes from and I hear great crossover latin jazz/hard swing with fantastic arrangements and top notch, sensitive playing. Tbh even if the music isn't your taste have a go at trying to play the bass line
I agree ! I must be a fantastic player because i can play the "greatest bassline ever" according to bassguitar magazine "peaches" by the stanglers in my sleep !!
8. He had the whole package. Great voice , bags of charisma, could rock on his precision like nobody and most importantly songwriting skills . He was a great loss and the worlds not as much fun without him !
9. Really enjoyed that excellent stuff !!! Cheers mate !!
10. Have to say i got one about two months ago and so far i've been very disappointed with it . No matter what i do with it it still sounds very digital.
11.
Hi there! Has anyone got any sense of the approximate resale value of this baby? It's a mint 1997 Streamer LX4, obviously the fretless model... I'm wondering whether or not to part with it and that piece of information might help... Thanks very much for any insight! PS: I won't take suggestions like £ 50 or similar as reflecting an expert opinion!
Beautiful bass mate!! If i had the money i'd want that !!
12.
The blue Streamer is with LukeFRC now (see his avatar posted earlier) and funnily enough that pink Cass Lewis bass sold on eBay earlier this year for not a lot of money AT ALL (in fact it sold for less than you would pay for a used 'cheap' BO Thumb )
Oh lovely streamer that ! I would defo been after that Cass lewis bass !!!FFS!
13.
I hope you realise my tongue was firmly in my cheek with that comment... Cleaning ingrained dirt/sweat burns from a natural finish bass is 'virtually' impossible to do without stripping and hand sanding the whole bass. Were that my bass I'd have to way up the hours of work involved against whether it'd be worth just giving another wax and living with the mojo... leave it and just play it. Saying that if you sell it to me I'll clean it and post lots of lovely pics so that you can see what a thing of beauty it is awww cr*p that negotiating tactic didn't come out right!
Cheers mate I think your right wax it and enjoy !! I love that BLUE Streamer !! I remember seeing Cass Lewis with Terence trent Darby on video years ago and he had a PINK thumb bass i think it was . Looked the dogs danglies!!!
14.
That's just plain fugly... Far better off going back to your Status. I'll take it off your hands to save you having to look at it any more.
Ugly ? I think its very nice ! Could do with cleaning the wood any ideas people ?
15.
ahem, and what else is in that album? http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h272/bla...-1225279842.jpg ?
Caught out !!LOL!
16. So it must be cherry ? I always wondered that it was darker than the other warwick streamers i saw at the time and buying second hand obviously very little info !
17. HA HA LOL! I lost the post editing !! My pc is playing up!
18.
You had an '88 streamer in the attic Pics would be delightful.
Must try and do that mate! It is battered looking , i went down the road of Status the last few years (Kingbass,Series 2000,Fretless Energy) but the Warwick is excellent for any type of music! Not that i'm slagging off Status !!!! But i'd just forgot how good that bass was! Chuffed to bits!
19. Recently dug my old Warwick streamer out of the attic after using Status for the last couple of years and i have to say i was blown away !! What a bass ! I have NEVER had to use a compressor on it the sound is so tight and i picked it up in the old bass centre in wapping for £800 in 1989 !! And you can get any sound you want front pick up off, back on Jaco, front on back off, Bruce Foxtons precision sound, both pick ups on GREAT slap sound and Darryll jones FULL sound !! Just had to share that with somebody !!
20.
Good for you! As long as you played it tastefully, I'm sure there'll be no problem, my son
Thank you father ! But my excuse is the era i grew up in , born in the 60's and then as a kid listening to the theme tune to "starsky and hutch" and "minder" , Stanley clarke hearing Marcus for the first time on "Run for cover" and "Riofunk" checking out "Thunderthumbs" hearing about some swedish guy called "Jonas" and of course Jaco on stuff like "cleaner from des moines" and "come on come over" WHO wouldnt have the funk in their veins ? Bootsy anyone?
21. As the original starter of this thread i have a confession to make ! Last week on a gig we played "come together" and i copped Marcus's licks and "SLAPPED" the whole song !!! I know ,i know at LEAST twelve Hail Marys and four Our Fathers and promise not to sin again/ I did feel dirty but it felt great!
22.
Horses for courses i guess. For me i find it gives me enough to work a toon out pretty quickly.Any gaps it does leave can be looped and slowed down to work out by ear. It's not perfect but its £30 at the end of the day.
I could have sworn i saw it on a torrent site like BTJUNKIE i dont agree with that type of thing or condone it in anyway but if somebody wanted to try before they buy!!
23.
i really shouldn't buy stuff off itunes late at night. the other night for some unknown reason i ended up buying an album of hayao miyazaki/studio ghibli movies themes done in a musicbox style. seriously, who even comes up with these ideas? and why am i admitting to buying it on a public forum?
Just have a few drinks and put them on and then it'll dawn on you why it was such a GREAT idea at the time !!
24. Went really well, they were clapping after every song ! There was even a couple of punters wanting to know what certain songs were at least 6 asked about Bill Withers "Use me " which we do! And gave out loads of cards so all good, except that the bar next door had a tv on a nd i was watching who got put out on xfactor and screwed up "How sweet it is, James Taylor" mind completely went blank !! DOOOOOOH ! Made up for it though in "Come together" ripped off Marcus's fills and got admiring looks sadly not from any of the big booted ladies that were present .
25. I saw them in Dublin last year and Belfast this year and they were outstanding BOTH nights. They were a lesson in musicianship and i can't believe we are now bereft of The Polices once again !!!!
