2.
I'd second that. Fan noise is generally directly related to its speed. The Quiet PC fan you linked to only runs at 2,000rpm. Did the salesman point this out to you, Jules?
Hi, Just seen this so sorry for late reply. The air displacement was equal or greater if I remember rightly. This has been in since april and I have had no issues whatsoever. Cheers
3. Thanks so much bassassin. I think you are bang on. In this thread http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=81037&sid=25e142ae8e60e0618dbd0d166ff97365 there is a bass which is very similar so I don't think it was an aftermarket rout winipooh The colour is referred to as all metallic red. Just had a look again in the pup cavity and there is a very faint AMR stamped inside. The body seems to be a 2 piece so it would be noticeable with an oil finish (which someone seems to have tried already) Thinking of maybe sanding the fingerboard and keeping it fretless but I don't have a fretted bass so it is tempting...
4.
Serial number (L plus 5 digits) checks out as post '81 Tokai according to the Tokai Registry page - so that's what it is. Unusual model with P/J pups, don't remember seeing one before. Shame it's been abused like this but I think if it was mine, I'd consider a refret & give it a Danish Oil refin. I've also seen repro Tokai decals online.
Great work!
5. Just took it apart and there's not much to go on. Also noticed it has volume, tone, tone. That's odd isn't it?
6. Nice one. That's a good lead. It's such a shame that someone did a horrible defret as the bass has/had promise.
7. I don't remember seeing anything but it's been a while. I'll take it out later and check again.
8. Thanks guys. Here's a pic of the tuners. Strangely, I just went on the fender dating site with the serial number and it says it is Fullerton 1964 which is highly doubtful...
9. I've just dug this jazz bass out of my cupboard and always wanted to know what it once was. Someone gave it to me a while ago in pretty poor condition. It was once red, had gold hardware with cream pups and it has had an awful defret. The only clue I can see is the serial number on the neck plate. Serial L23880 Any bass detectives out there? Cheers, Jules
10.
Great minds think alike
Indeed!
11. 😄 If anyone lives near Brighton go and check out lisa Abbot's band. They do the whole of hounds of love plus a selection of Kate classics. Amazing band.
12. 50 Words for snow would have been amazing had they removed the title track and snowed in at wheeler street.
13.
Beautiful. There's an interesting article here https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/oct/06/new-cool-kamasi-kendrick-gave-jazz-new-groove There's a section where a couple of players talk about how jazz stagnated for a while as the younger generation were reluctant to offend their older peers by accepting more modern Influences into their music. I'm very new at this Jazz thing but it seems to me that with artists like Snarky Puppy, Kamasi Washington & Robert Glasper the modern jazz scene is healthier & more progressive than it has been in years, and that's without counting all the Jazz/hip hop/dance music crossover stuff.
Thanks for that. Really interesting.
14. http://youtu.be/6mvJAsFEmWM This could develop into a deeper discussion about how jazz went so far forwards and then took a time machine backwards to a time when players only played show tunes. I'll get my coat and my white flares and see you all next week.
15.
Spirit of eden is one of my very favourite albums.
Agree. Laughing stock is also great as is the Mark Holis solo album.
16. I've had great CS from Zon recently. Joe even helped me with reinstalling and soldering the preamp via a skype session. I am the third owner of the bass!
17.
I was listening to that this morning, fantastic !
I'm listening to it now and I think everyone on here should as well type bump
18. Kavis is a brilliant album by him and the song kisla is one of my favourite pieces of music. Kai eckhardt on bass
19. Recently watched 'We are Twisted F****** Sister' Now that was a hard working bar band! Brilliant watch.
20. Here he is in action with winwood/clapton at msg. Was suprised it was him when I first saw this. The whole concert is great by the way. http://youtu.be/cbr0Fkg-3-o
21. Bargain
22.
...it might sound better straight 8ths on the root all the way through ... shuffle of course !
;-)
23. Not sure, but it ruined a perfectly good gag that took me 4 seconds to think of.
24. Adam just told me that they are planning to do moondance on the next tour...
25. It was a shock at first when I first heard that and how low her voice had become but it didn't take long before I loved those versions.
