My previous practice amp was a 35W Hartke which put out only fizz and skronk (technical terms) and lacked any kind of depth or warmth. The MB is the anti-Hartke!
For my ears, I never found the MB "warm" but more dark and deep. As for "skronk", way above my mental capacity to describe a tone.

Great feed back. Here is a really nice comparison between some of the gear mentioned in the thread. Those Phil Jones sounds amazing, but my god, that AER...
Now goes on a search for an AER Amp One.
I had the MB but sold it, I could never get there sound I wanted from it. I also tried a PJB (not sure which - one four speakers on the front, two on top?) but it could not cope with my Roscoe B string.

I would join the fish puns but am too busy practicing my scales for my audition with the reformed Tommy Dorsel Orchestra

They let you in then. May I recommend Basschat Cats
Now the long suffering can see these threads, do you want me to pretend all those new bass guitars I am storing for you are mine?
What about all the ahem "photos"?

You seem to be confused the fish church isn’t a church for fish it’s a religion that worships fish
Aha, but it is a church, in Sweden and/or Connecticut, and a magnificent piece of architecture. Perhaps not for fish to attend, to be fair, as they would have issues with sitting the pews.
You are David Icke and I claim my £5.00!

Adam Audio T5V are about £70 above budget for the pair but are very good for the price range. I have some and am very happy with them. If you are happy to spend the extra and genuinely want the near field studio monitor sound, I would recommend the added spend for these.

Touching on our heritage as part of the violin family. This bass goes too low to even hear!

Never had a problem from any of my cats when playing vinyl
However, prior to flogging most of them, my old cat did sharpen his claws on the bottom row of all my albums. Little sod
My current cats show no inclination to do the same thing...but I do now put them all in PVC sleeves
Worst they've ever done to my CDs is scatter them around the room when chasing a mouse
Do the cats mind being put in sleeves? Can they still breath? 😀
I would love to have vinyl but alas only have CD’s to play with.

I have no problem remembering lyrics and can recall the lyrics to songs I have not heard from many years ago. I genuinely do not remember bass lines unless I play them regularly.

Aside from the bloody obvious of remembering the ceiling and compensating for it,
This. Give it a while and it will become second nature not to lift the bass above your head. Try sliding the strap off your shoulder in a sort of saucy undressing kinda way. Works for me (the action, not the image of you doing it! )

My WL-20Ls arrived last night. Only had about 20 mins with them due to cleaning up some very unwelcome floodwaters in the TV room, but so far living up to my hopes.

I've had a Secretlabs Titan chair for about a year now, and you can dig about 'plastic' leather all you like, I have not once 'sat in a pool of sweat', and believe me I have spent some considerable time in the chair due to Covid crap. yes they ain't cheap but they ARE worth every penny, the only reason I didn't post earlier was because the OP wanted a chair without arms.
I am thinking of getting one of these (sadly needing the XL version) and am pleased to see some reviews from real people on here. Thank you and @hiram.k.hackenbacker. I will probably go for the full leather version, however.

A watch-it on 5.8GHz wireless systems
by Wonks » Tue Nov 05, 2019 11:07 am
Whilst perusing Amazon for guitar-related items, I noticed that I was being proffered ads for 5.8GHz wireless guitar systems (other types of wireless systems are also available). These just seem to be simple frequency variations on 2.4GHz and 5GHz systems already available. e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEKATO-Wireles ... nts&sr=1-8
However, there is no warning in these ads that unlike 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands, that in the UK the 5.8GHz band isn't license free. It's lightly regulated by Ofcom, basically to keep track of what's where and hopefully avoid band overload in the future, but it still legally requires you to buy a license and register the device with Ofcom (all a fairly painless on-line procedure).
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-li ... ess-access
The band is really designed for fixed devices to communicate wirelessly, such as CCTV cameras, so is not really meant to be used for devices that can move geographically, though I doubt a single unit will break the system. But as such, whilst licenses are only £1 each (so it doesn't cost too much to register all the CCTV cameras in an office building), there is a minimum charge of £50, renewable annually (spellcheck suggested 'anally', which would be even more of a PITA).
So buying one of these devices isn't a cheap proposition, plus the fact that you'll be using it as a 'secondary' user, so may get disruption from the primary users of the band, using much more powerful transmitters. And if you don't get a license, you'll be breaking the law.didnt notice before but if that article is correct its to be renewed annuallyWell I did not know that. I suspect my broadband is probably 5ghz then.

What is the difference between these other than the USA ones costing much more ?
I do not have a sensible answer, however, my USA Ultralites took over 5 months to be delivered (arrived this week), when I could have had licensed ones in a week back at the beginning of July!

Do I need a five? The way I play, yeah I kinda do as I'm so used to having the low B.
Could I make do with a four? Sure, the same way I could make do with three strings.
I get what he's saying about a five not being a higher spec, or an upgrade compared to a four, but I'm definitely a five string bassist, so would always pick one over a four.
This.

does the licence for 5.8 ghz have to be renewed every year ?
I don't think you need a licence for 5.8ghz. e..g the Lekato system per @stewblack and the many on Amazon make no mention of a license. My wifi at home has 5.8ghz channels as provided by BT and I have not been told I need a license, perhaps being at home changes things, however.

This is getting silly. Get the small claims court and the police involved now. Ignore any stories this idiot dreams up and just go through all the legal routes you can. Also suggest a call to FB and perhaps a legal letter re the pedophilia before someone as simple as the thief thinks it is real and causes all sorts of issues for you with employers etc

Just started using the WL-20s with both active and passive basses and so far so good.
No question it's an easier set up than the SH, particularly if you don't have a pedal board with the SH set up on.
Early days and home use only so far, given Covid, but first impressions are positive.
Thanks and have just ordered the L version; apparently designed for active set ups. A couple of comments read about clicks but will give it a go.
-
Is anyone using the Boss WL-20(or L) with an active bass? Is anyone getting a clicking noise as some seem to be? I am tempted by the WL-20 for home use. I have my SH but as I do not used a pedal board at home, the Boss may a quick fix

Ron Carter used to (perhaps still does) but you had / have to be auditioned by him for him to decide if he wanted / wants to take you on. Not surprising I suppose.
