After debating whether to change them for a while, I found these Ultralites for sale thanks to @Bobthedog

Big weight difference, but not enough to totally remove any movement. However when sitting bass now balances almost parallel with the floor rather than diving towards it. When standing a little forearm pressure and strap easily hold it where I prefer the angle to be.

The costs are pushing it a bit now but for a c.£500-600 investment, I think it's been worthwhile to get in the short scale club with a level of quality I'm happy with. Definitely a market for more mid-quality short scales.

Next mod: After filling the holes...one day maybe add a drop tuner hipshot tender

Glad they helped. I believe @Rich cleverly filled the holes on his Sire with cut down cocktail sticks. PS love the Aguilar rig in the background.

These are excellent monitors and at this price it is an incredible bargain!  Do you still have the original boxes?

Too bad that I already picked up a set last year! GLWTS :)

Just out of curiosity, what did you upgrade to?  I figured that for my small studio with somewhat minimal acoustical treatment, these were perfect as I would not really be able to hear the difference of anything higher spec anyway.  I certainly was not disappointed!  Incredible monitor / sub set for the money.

Thank you; they are indeed superb. I upgraded to the Adam Audio A5x and Sub8.  I only have the box for the T10S.

Cool Thread. Well, on "Have I got news for you", this one would be the "odd one out" as it is not a song about dentistry but sung by a trained dentist 😎

As would be anything by The Idles. I believe the lead guitar is a former dentist. Was there not an indie rock band too called The Dentists?

  4. I am not a prolific seller and Basschat sales do work but, in my experience, be prepared to have whatever "fair" price you suggest negotiated down. I have also sold on the FB Bass Players Market UK group and sold for what I asked for (the same prices I advertised here).

Bass Direct may not sell what you want but I find their trade in prices to be pretty good compared to others. I have used them before too. Trading in is definitely easier.

I also suggest trying many different sites if you sell - do not limit yourself to one place and therefore a potentially limited set of buyers.

  5. Due to a good financial start to the year I have upgraded from these superb Adam Audio Studio Monitors. These are therefore for sale at a bargain price. New this set would set you back £565 - £600.

These are the start of the Adam Audio range, however, they really are fantastic performers and get some great reviews on t'internet.

I would prefer to sell as a set, but would split at the following prices: £200 for the T5Vs and £200 for the T10s.

Prices are plus, within reasonable distance, delivery petrol costs. Collection preferred. Post 29 March that is allowed (subject to any changes in the government's plans).

The T5Vs have 5" drivers, 1.9" ribbon tweeters. 45hz to 25khz range. They are powered monitors with a 70w RMS built in amp.

The T10s has a 10" driver. 28hz to 120hz range. Powered sub with 130w RMS built in amp.

There are two scuff marks one the front of the T10s as can be seen in the photo, but otherwise these are in unmarked pristine fully working condition. If it was not for the good start to the year for me, I would have no hesitation in keeping these on.

  6. Sort out your neck dive now! These are new, unused and still in the unopened packets (apart from one for photo purposes).  £95 plus posting. Happy to have collected if preferred. Note these are the original Ultralites, not the licensed copies.

Currently set for 4 +1 but being the USA model can each be switched to either bass or treble side. I will sell these as the set of 5 only.

I bought these for a project that never happened so no longer have need for them. I believe this to be a great deal especially as I waited 3+ months for these to arrive so no movement on price.

It's only the fundamental which is 31Hz, which isn't that important.  The overall sound of the B string (or any instrument which isn't a sine wave) is a combination of many different frequencies, most of which can be reproduced by your speaker.

"The missing fundamental phenomenon is used electronically by some pro audio manufacturers to allow sound systems to seem to produce notes that are lower in pitch than they are capable of reproducing"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_fundamental

    Thank you

  8. Hypothetical question re speakers. An open E string on a bass is approx 41hz and a B approx 31hz. If I had a subwoofer with a frequency range down to 35hz and played an open B, what would come out of the speaker? A mess? A note equivalent to 35hz? Nothing?

Lets assume nothing interferes with  / deteriorates the signal between string and speaker.

When playing something like Scar Tissue by RHCP not only does Flea play a different variation each time.

I remember Jessie J singing a very different version of Price Tag and being asked about it, her response was she was bored of singing the song all the time so did this to keep her interest going

  10. Only two week ago two of us in the hamlet coincidently ordered internet parcels which were to be delivered by Hermes. Mine arrived no problem, the neighbour had theirs (along with some other parcels) dropped in the front garden of a house in a totally separate village and received a photo of the parcels along side a note saying it had been delivered.

To be fair, I do not recall an issue with Hermes but then I do not remember all couriers amongst the billions of parcels arriving each day from boredom. Our local DPD have been very good and I made a point of getting to know the regular driver which may help us.

It's been a while, but this thread need resurrecting!

After an extended stint of having no basses, let alone any Roscoes (I had five at one time!?), life has begun to get itself back on track. I've been playing a Yammy TRB to keep my going while I considered my next purchase, then this came up and I couldn't resist. It's been here in my hands for a few days and I can't put it down.

    LG5 Custom (2007 model, immaculate)
    Lightweight mahogany body
    Exhibition-grade quilted maple top
    Trans cordovan gloss red finish
    Maple/purpleheart/maple Neck
    Spalted purpleheart fretboard
    Bart pups
    Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp
Black hardware (ebony control knobs, graphtech nut)
Strung with Black Beauties, because the black and red combo is stunning

Sorry about the glare on the pics... one of those annoying days, plus it's a REALLY high-gloss finish.

Very nice indeed, love the colour!

Here is mine. When I got my Dingwall I put this away but since the first lockdown have been playing this exclusively (until my MTD fretless came along) and am in love with it all over again. I did post this here back in 2015 but must have deleted the photos. 2014 Century Signature. Aguilar OBP-3 pre amp and Aguilar PUs.
