1. have reported it to local police and 'actionfraud' and spoken with ebay (second time with someone helpful who says is passing on to ebay fraud dept...) so... hopefully... info will be released by ebay to police.....then we take it from there steve-bbb ... thats exactly what i always thought ! - but someone said its not *always* the case if no criminal intent on behalf of buyer and seller ??
2. Buyers Id is hidden from everyone except the seller.! (I should have mentioned.. I would happily reimburse the buyer to get my stuff back... After all its not their fault)
3. My sad tale...I know... I know... we should NEVER do it ! Home late & tired after a gig.... hand in cast after a skiing accident... can manage the bass up the steps.. 'thinks'.. cab & amp will be ok in locked and alarmed car till the morning....and a gig the following night next morning... car door open....bag with amp and leads in... gone (the only thing I can think of is that, struggling with front door key with hand in a cast... i probably hit the remote locking button on the car kay and unlocked the car... prat !) local police sympathetic and carry out door-to-door that eve in case.... nothing i leave info round local cash converters & music shops a few days pass.... advertised on ebay ! but I can't tell ebay its stolen - they wont accept it from you or I - only from the police - and ebay make them jump through hoops too... seller.... new id / zero feedback / payment only by paypal / & so sorry but collection not possible...... hmmmmm what do you think? it really is far too easy to set up false id with ebay / paypal - sell stuff, collect the money and disappear In the meantime of course someone, in all good faith, has bid (&won) the auction and (hopefully) will receive *my* GB ! so..... what should I have done? Bid to win ? - and therefore give my name & address to someone who *may* be a criminal without knowing any of their details? and they could recognise mine? Ask the seller a question? - and potentially give away any unique features? The chap / chapess who bought it did so in good faith and it is possible, indeed, that the seller believed they were the rightful owner - in which case, although originally stolen the question of actual ownership now is really complicated (i used to think that the person it was stolen from still retained a legal right to it - not necessarily the case apparently!) It is possible that the buyer may be able to claim a refund through ebay / paypal's buyer protection schemes if an item is proven to be stolen (on the bright side.... it does mean that i had to get hold of another amp quickly - bought from a great basschat'er (not ebay !) so am enjoying testing out a different make...) what would you have done? (apart from not leaving gear in the car !)
4. before it goes in the bin bump !......
5. Been hanging around for a while... Anonymous 15" 4 ohm bass (!) speaker - just the speaker - no cab and.... not working! cone and chassis in good condition but presumably open circuit somewhere in the wiring ? (no reading if i put a meter across the terminals) listed in case its of any use to anyone free to collect (obviously ) -- poole / bournemouth area probably £7 / 8 to courier cheers roger
6. welcome to the forum drbob! PhD / Med / wishful thinking ?? not uncouth at all... still available and i'm in sunny (at he moment for a change...) Poole on the south coast will pm you for any further chat
7. would love to 'trade' for cash !..... unlikely in current climate i guess... otherwise.. trade / px maybe a small (but 'giggable') combo ??? half decent electro acoustic ??? something bass-wise to excite me ?? why?? and thanks 'spoombung' -- indeed they are nice!
8. thanks for that ... maybe you're right - i do have 3 (!) more (including a sgc nanyo from Korea! - i think they moved there for a short time after the factory in Japan was destroyed ?) and they all seem to match well.... but i've never taken the neck off (any of them -- all set soooo well !) ps - in sunny (!) Poole on the south coast......
9. Rare.... never seen another - although there is a review on Harmony Central.... http://www.harmonyce.../products/96461 Made by 'Jay Armstrong' - all I could find is that he was a UK luthier working in the 70's - but obviously good at his craft when you look at this - anyone know of him ?? Through neck construction - I'm no expert but ?maple neck with rosewood fretboard and mahogany body and all the hardware is brass - even the cover plate on the back, the strap buttons and the nut for the jack socket! I believe the pickups to be Kent Armstrong (thats 'proper' Kent Armstrong - not the ones made under licence) and even they are secured using bolts to a backing plate rather than just screws into the wood 'Steinberger' type tuning as you can see from the pics and again, look at the way in which the tuning tailpiece is elegantly mounted and also the machining of the bridge and saddles Neck is 24 fret , is straight and truss rod turns OK. Scale length is standard 34". Width at the first fret is 1 5/8" (approx 41mm for younger viewers ; and at the 12th fret 2 1/8" (54mm) The neck has a pleasant 'chunky' feel to it - difficult for me to measure (no micrometer gauge) but i would guess at 7/8" thick at nut; 1 1/8 at 12th fret with a flat feel to the fretboard and almost a semicircle shape / feel to the neck itself. Although it says 'Active' on the bridge - it is not - I guess the electrics have been changed / modified at some time in its history The controls are 1 - switch to change pickups 2 - Separate volume controls for the bridge and neck pickups 3 - Rotary tone control 4 - 12 position rotary switch linked to differing capacitors ( see the pics) There is a minor blemish on the fretboard between the 9th and 10th fret (see pics) and also on the back of the neck (again see the pics) - neither of which affect playability at all So.... what about the sound.... hmmm - I always find it difficult to describe - its so personal and subjective - I could use words like 'warm' and 'full' for the neck pickup whilst the bridge pickup sounds as if it project more 'middle' to me - but obviously you are very, very welcome to come and experience it for yourself ! (I'm in Poole on the south cost so may not be too easy for some !) Why am I selling? .... hmmmm.. like others I guess - financial stress in the current economic climate £499 (just seen that Harmony Central review quotes £1650 !) apologies if original wording offended - certainly not intended other 'old' stuff to follow
10. hands up anyone who hasn't owned a BC bass in the past !
11. I guess you all know about these... Sexton Guitar Co and all that.... Small bodied, lightweight basses made in Japan 80's and 90's before the name was taken over by cheaper Chinese products (still pretty good value for money but can't compare with the SGC Nanyo's) Anyway - its red... 4-string... active ...P/J configuration and great for those loooong club gigs! can't read the serial number on this one but its SB100 series - probably 90's and plays well I would imagine the neck has been replaced at some point because it looks a (very) slightly different shade to me these never fetch what they're worth for some reason ?why so - this is here for just £119 plus delivery costs (would consider trades - try me....?half-decent electro acoustic 6-string G*uitar ?) any inspection / trial
12. essential in any bass players kit box... 1 - wire cutters (to cut the bottom string of any guitar player who dares to go below 'E' ) 2 - hacksaw (to saw through the left wrist of the majority (i did say - majority) of keyboard players - especially those who can't hear that their left hand little finger is responsible for that 'booming' bass note clashing with that riff you've just.......) rant over........
13. broke .... me ... not the bass so offering it again - great amp
14. oh well...... ebay tonight - i just hate giving them more money - by the time you pay listing fees / final value fees / paypal fees .......
15. hello there.... from the 'installation instructions' - quote <cavity size needed is 1.2" deep, 1.1" wide (1.02" at the battery end) and 4.8" long. The exact size and shape of your bass cavity may be different.> end quote hope this helps cheers
16. a 'just-to-see-if-there-really-is-no-interest' bump... else off to 'bay i guess...
17. Well.... I guess you know about these.. if not look at: http://www.audereamudio.com (although the JZ5D has just been superceded by the JZ6D) I'm having a bit of a clear-out and will get round to more 'stuff' soon Please note! -- this is the 'deluxe' version so it does NOT have space for a jack socket on the plate you either need the socket on the side of the body or... you drill holes in your lovely bass... or....... before you do that - there is a cheap bass on the list ('testbed' would find it) already pre-drilled and routered to allow a degree of testing of pickups / preamps / active vs passive etc - to see if you rteally need to drill those holes (won't sound quite the same as a bass made from 'proper' wood - but gives some idea) used only to test - but i'm a precision-man - one volume and one tone control is all i can manage! how about £95 delivered? trades considered (maybe a reasonable 6-string electro-acoustic + cash adjustment?) but don't be offended if your trade is not what i want !
18. you are *absolutely* right - of course ! - totally agree - i did say 'just to give an idea'.... rather than gouge out the rare exotic wood of your quality bass.... and a quick plug for you - because your basses (lettsguitars) do look drop dead gorgeous - and they look as if they sound good too ! hmmm... perhaps if i listed it as 'bitch for sale' ..... may get a bit more interest ?
