1. Here's my USA Sterling HH that i got about 6 months ago through Bassdirect. It's a bit of a beast; really light and the neck's lovely to play. Anyone else have the issue that every switch position is a lot quieter than the bridge coils only? EDIT: Well that was a fail, on my phone so will get a picture up when im back on my computer!
2. Aww man. I've got a Sterling USA 4HH on order and this thread is killing me!! Translucent Gold, maple board, black pick guard. I. Can. Not. Wait. Some lovely basses in here!
3. Bought a Boss CEB-3 from Neil recently, excellent comms and very quick delivery, he even sent me the pedal to try out and make sure I was happy with it before me paying him, and I'm hardly a well-known member on here! 10/10 mate, cheers! P.S, sorry this took so long, took me a while to work out how to leave you some feedback on here.
4. Hi folks, I ain't too familiar with valve equipment and I'm wondering if anyone can share their experiences with this preamp I bought it used a couple of years ago and haven't really had it as part of my rig, plugged it in for a test run as I was planning gonna sell it, and it's a bit "hissy" - Which I've read can be a sign of the valves needing repaced. It still sounds pretty damn good though! Currently it has; (1 being far left, 5 being far right when looking at the front face.) 1 - Groove Tubes 12AX7C 2 - Ruby 12AX7A 3 - Ruby 12AX7A 4 - Electro Harmonix ECC82 5 - Ruby 12AX7A Does this look right? I would have thought they would all need to be the same type, no? Thanks
5. Also I forgot to mention that I rewired it; Master volume and a kill-switch for each pick up. I always ran it with everything on "full" and got bored one night so I broke out the soldering iron! I sent away the body to Spectrum Guitar Finishes back in early February and received these pics today, delighted with it! Pearlescent white with ghost pearl bloom. Phil says it looks awesome in person, I imagine it's pretty hard to photograph.
6. Hi folks, my main gigging bass the past couple of years has been an American Standard Jazz that I got on a pretty sweet deal from Reverb when they closed down, £680 new if I recall. I love this bass. Plays great, comfortable weight and a lovely neck, but I've decided to change things up a wee bit, starting with a refinish. Here's a couple of poor "Before" shots I changed the pick guard from White to Black and added a Hipshot Xtender not long after getting it.
7. Does it include the original box and manual? Im interested pending some photos, quite fancy a chorus to have a play about with
8.
I don't know if you've seen this yet? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/26654-recommended-luthiers/
That's new to me, thanks brother! Loads of places to check out.
Do you know you can get actual Spector bridges with the screw/spring intonation adjustment?
Indeed, that's the exact bridge im planning
Jimmy Moon in Glasgow is my number one go to guy. Exceptional luthier.
Thanks man, i never thought about Moon guitars.
9. I should have said that i'm willing to ship it off, so long as it's in the UK, don't have much choice being as "geographically challenged" as we are up here!
10. Caithness, Myke. In the Highlands of Scotland. Far away from everywhere.
11. Also, another question to throw at you... With the finish being a stain, will i have to keep with red or only have the choice to go darker in colour? I realise this is maybe for the luthier to answer but there's a lot of clued up folk on here.
12. Hi guys and gals, i've got a spector euro 5lx that i bought damaged off ebay a few years back. It looks like it had been dropped by the previous owner and has a crack that runs "through" the control cavity; it runs on either side of the cavity and looks to be through the lacquer to the wood, the crack's never "grown" in the time i've had it. There's also a few scratches and dings, so i think it's time i got 'er fixed up as it really is a nice bass. I'll try get some photos up soon. Finished in black cherry with gold hardware, through-neck, you know the details. I'd like to get it repaired, refinished and i'll probably change the hardware to black (including a bridge with intonation screws!!) Now, who to contact for such a task? I can't imagine stripping and refinishing a neck-through guitar to be an easy task... I hope i've posted this in the right sub-forum. Looking forward to hearing from you guys
13. Thanks for the replies, the Berg CN series looks to fit the bill very nicely... Looks like im gonna have to be easy on the wallet for the next couple of months so i can order one! Got my eye on the 212, I think it'd be a wiser choice than 2 single 12's with price being a factor. It's still a good bit lighter and smaller than my Warwick cab. Has anyone any experience with the Purple Chili cabs? I just think the look damn sexy!
14. Got a couple of quick questions for you guys if you'd be so kind im assuming the "Graft" series are a more basic line, "budget" models for lack of a better word? What kind of waiting time is on them? I really want a 5 string Recurve... will have to drop the man an email at some point. The acrylic impregnated woods looks brilliant too.
15. Hi folks, I'm upgrading my rig and recently bought said amp which I am delighted with, lightweight and sound fantastic. So I'm looking to get a nice cab for it, I'm currently using a Warwick WCA 410 pro, it's "okay" but I'm sick of lugging it about; it weighs 31kg and is a bit of a cumbersome size, especially when carrying it through doorways. So I've been doing a fair bit of reading on where to go from here, but I'm completely spoiled for choice for a nice smaller, powerful, lightweight bass cab. Kind of had my heart set on a 2x10" for no particular reason other than I could eventually get two and have a modular 4x10 for bigger gigs (I'll likely never need a second I imagine). Been looking at Bergantino, TKS, Schroeder, Purple Chili to name but a few, I know it's not what it's about but I love how the Purple Chili cabs look! I also emailed Barefaced about their line and they recommended their Big Baby 2, though I'm a bit skeptical about a 1x12 to be quite honest, despite all the bumf on their site. I'm currently playing in a loud pop/ rock/ classic rock cover band with three (I know...) guitarists, using an American Jazz bass and a Spector Euro 5LX, I have a Musicman Sterling on order too. I'm usually DI'd live. I've also been inspired a great deal by Nathan Navarro and wanna experiment with lots of effects, dubstep type stuff and massive ambient soundscapes (though this may never leave the house) so I'm looking for something that can do it all really, and be lightweight/ smaller than a 4x10! Any advice or guidance with your experiences would be greatly appreciated
16. Thanks for the reply Dave, that's pretty much what I needed to hear! I'm afraid I reside in the very far North of Scotland (Any further and you're fall in to the sea) Quite a bit away from Derby haha, but thanks very much for the offer. I'm used to buying things without trying due to my location unfortunately! Genz seem to be decent bits of kit, never really read much bad about them, so I don't think I can go too far wrong. *touch wood*
17. Hi folks, long time lurker and first post here. I've been looking to physically down-size my rig for a while now and came across the Shuttlemax 12.2 on bass direct and saw that it's currently going for a decent price, has anyone here had any experiences with this amp? I currently play in a hard rock/ pop and everything in-between cover band, and I enjoy playing a bit of punk and metal also, so I'm wondering how it would fair in these situations. I've watched some youtube vids of the Shuttlemax series and they tend to be using the amp very clean. My main set-up at the moment which I use in band is an American Jazz Bass > Sansamp BDDI > Ampeg B2RE > Warwick WCA410 Pro. 90% of the time I use my fingers, the odd time I play with a pick. I've been in touch with Zilla abut getting a 2x10" cab made so that's what I'll likely be running it through, the end game is to get rid of most of my gear and replace it with less but "higher end" gear; a couple of basses and a small(ish) rig EDIT: I'm assuming the 2 pre-amps don't correspond to the 2 power-amps? I did think about having one side going to one cab and the other going to a second cab for a stereo set-up... It was a complicated question to try and google.
