I wonder if that weighs more than my P bass...

I wonder why they don't glue them in at the factory? Am trying to think why you might need a removable ferrule and am struggling...

What's changed (if anything) in your setup? Are you using a different room (mains socket) or in a location with more electrical interference maybe? If you've done nothing to the bass itself and have checked that the cables are good, the only thing I can think of is that maybe there's a loose connection in the jack socket as that's really the only thing that gets mechanical wear and tear.

Processed at the same location (same ZIP code) twice looks more like they lost it somewhere in the building and it's just been spotted...

I bought a new Vintage P bass online a couple of months ago and when it arrived I was thoroughly disappointed, it had many flaws so I sent it back and asked for a full refund. Not on a par with Squiers in my experience though I believe that many others are happy Vintage owners. I ended up buying a Squier P from a fellow BCer and the difference is like night and day.

The Duncan Designed pickups found on some of the VM series are good (and little different to the proper Seymour Duncan variety) and the pickups used for the CV series are thought to be identical to Tonerider pickups.

I have a (from new, bought online) Squier Active Jazz Deluxe IV and a Squier Vintage Modified Precision (bought secondhand from another BC member) and I think they're both fine instruments. I've set them up how I like them and the necks are good and they have decent body woods (they don't use plywood these days) and are well put together.

I'd be willing to bet that the MTD Kingstons are made by Cort

£600 for a kilowatt rig must be the bargain of the century! I bet you can't wait to gig it!

I don't know the Sony unit so I can't comment on what faults have been known to develop with them but if it were me I'd have the compressor first in the chain and the EQ at the end.

... the Crate is probably an optimistic 50 at that but in any case you've got the walls to cope with the new toy!

You might have enough grunt with the BC212, a 4x10 shifts a third more air than a 2x12 but is going to be somewhat less portable - swings and roundabouts...

If you can get away with playing your 50 watt Crate at full pelt and the neighbours don't complain then the Ashdown ought to sound sweet; if I remember correctly a 500 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 50 watt amp...

Are you saying that somewhere marked on the power amp it says it'll deliver 200 watts but the tech has measured it and has told you that it'll deliver 300 watts into an 8 ohm load and 400 watts into a 4 ohm load (but not to run it at 4 ohms as more than likely it will overhead and shut down)? Is the amp loud enough for your needs? Does it sound good at the volume you'll be running it at? If so then there's no reason to change anything.

Looking at the materials and manner of construction (see the OP photos) it looks like a Roqsolid cover but I could be wrong.

What I hadn't thought about, but clearly will be the case for some, is variance/tolerance in cabinet dimensions (particularly with respect to handle placement) - so for those selecting a cover from the 'standard' list they might do well to measure everything and order as if it were a totally custom job (which I had to, to the extent of sending a side paper template for my Genz Benz Contour combo as it has a slightly curved rather than a sloped or bevelled front). Mine is spot on for fit.

[/quote] That's interesting as my B4FL seems to have the skinniest neck of all my basses! Just measured it against my Squier Jazz and both are 38mm at the nut but the Jazz seems a shade deeper front to back (about a millimetre difference as best I can measure with a ruler).

Amps are rated according to what they will deliver to various loads and normally I think they like to quote the highest figure achievable within normal operating limits so my combo (Genz Benz Contour 500) produces 300 watts using the existing 8 ohm load (2 x 10" plus tweeter) and can push 500 watts into a 4 ohm load (when an additional 8 ohm extension cab is used). I'm assuming that's RMS power and not peak (which can be significantly higher). Your Trace Elliot pre-amp is mated with (what we have to assume) is not a standard Trace Elliot power amp so you have to go with what your amp tech advises regarding the output power handling figures.

The advice seems to be kill the volume and then set the input gain as high as possible before the signal starts to clip (the LED lighting up in that section) and then adjust output volume to taste. I really hope it continues to behave itself.
