  2. Same ^^^^^^ Steely Dan tribute 'Simply Dan' at The Hampton Hub in March with Gary @cetera - they are well worth catching and a great band
  3. Sarah Jones is quite something on drums, but it's a great band!
  4. Sounds good. Thanks Chaps I was saddened to have missed last year's one, but I did catch the on-the-day interview online with Chris Childs.
  5. I'm going to take a look at the V3 as I'm coming to the realisation that the Ampeg sound(s) are more me Enjoy your new rig
  6. Compression a lot of the time Octaver Occasional bit of dirt, delay and reverb on certain songs/parts
  7. I'm not sure if people have seen this before but I revisited this from 5 years ago and HS and his fabulous band put in a great performance and do the song justice. Along with Pino on 'Tear your playhouse down', this is my favourite bassline and I do like an octaver. The bassist gets a great bass octave sound and I believe he's Adam Prendergast - EDIT: From what I've found on this bassist, his board has a Micro POG on it and I wonder if that's what's in use - I've been chasing the right Octave pedal for ages and have a separate thread on that but the EHX was never on my list...mmmm
  8. Madness numbers, 'Lovestruck' and 'Wings of a Dove' and 'A Message to you, Rudy' by The Specials I play in what's mainly a Madness tribute band called Cairo East but we also include numbers by The Specials, The Beat, Bad Manners and so it's becoming more of a Ska tribute -
  9. Great info and thanks for citing the difference in the new version. The clips I've heard of the Bass Octaver are very good and the rest of the fx, along with the UI, format are a bonus. I'll investigate this unit and along with more experimentation with the HX Stomp, the Boss OC-5 and MXR Vintage are also on the list and possibly an Ashdown Sub-Generator, if I can find one.
  10. That's interesting to know and weird as I've owned an MS-70 CDR forever (had 2 until recently) and downloaded their latest/last firmware update which gave me more fx from the other units in the range including some bass effects, but I still wasn't happy with it. I wonder if there's something different in the MS-60B. Today I watched the Octaver shoot-out on Scott's Bass Lessons that Scott and Ian did, and also the one that Janek Gwizdala did, and I'm going to experiment more with the HX Stomp as that seems to be closer to what I like but as that unit resides on my guitar pedalboard, I think I still need to find a standalone one. Cheers folks for the suggestions so far
  11. It seems like I've been on an eternal journey trying to 'find the right octave pedal' and I've had, and tried quite a few (see my list below and comments) and just wondered what people might recommend, or even if I should revisit old ones from my list with different suggested settings. My remit, to achieve the Pino octave sound on 'Tear your playhouse down', or Tony Levin's 'Sledgehammer' and I realise both were done on Fretless bass and the latter had a healthy dose of compression, and possibly chorus, or Guy Pratt's sound on Pink Floyd's 'Sorrow' and the middle section of 'Like a Prayer'. So, I'm not interested in the sub, synthy sounds, or even having an Octave Up, so pretty straightforward and a nice rounded, smooth, and strong octave down sound that I hear on recordings with an OC-2. On that note, I wonder, could this be the one and should I seek out an MIJ one, but as you can see, the MIT ones didn't get me there and hands up, I have to make an allowance for my own shortcomings and human error. If using a compressor, should it come before or after the Octaver and would adding some boost before it enhance the octave sound?? Boss OC-3 and OC-5 - I never felt the octave sound was strong enough and didn't achieve the OC-2 sound I wanted Pearl OC-7 - my friend has an old one and this gets close, but it glitchier than most and I found differences between the same pedals Aguilar Octamiser - I never felt the octave sound was strong enough and didn't like the tone MXR Octave Deluxe - too gritty and didn't like the tone and my least favourite but I've yet to try the mini Vintage version Zoom B1xOn & B3 - good units but the octave sounds were never great or a strong point EBS ones (Octabass and Triple Mode) - the latter was more versatile but once again, it didn't have the right tone OC-2 - I had a MIJ years ago which sounded very good on guitar (wasn't a bassist then), but MIT I've tried are too glitchy and I'm not really going below a low A in all examples Source Audio Spectrum - Fun but not nailing the purer octave sound HX Stomp - I've just picked one up and the Boctaver sounds promising I heard a really good one that was in-built in an Ashdown Amp (sub-harmonic generator) and I've just seen they do a pedal, which I've not tried Any recommendations outside the list for a standalone pedal that I should look at or decent OC-2 clones without the glitching? Many thanks
  12. Good, smooth transaction with @Stuart Clayton for my EBS Octabass. Fast payment and good friendly comms. Recommended and thanks for the sale, Cos
  13. Big Horizon (1st and only album) Big Wreck's new album 'The Rest of the Story' - great playing all round on it and nice bass tones e.g.
  14. Gary (Cetera) and I went to a Big Horizon gig last night at the Pizza Express, Holborn, so nice and intimate. For those of you that are not aware of this band, they're the backing band for ELO & Take That and they released their own material about a year ago which is in the vein of The Feeling and Yacht Rock and they're bloody excellent! Nice to see @TrevorR there, too, and the legend, Graham Gouldman. Anyway, Gary and I know busy and in-demand Lee and I think most of us are aware of his bass skills and he had a great sound last night. Whilst an EBS player, he does use Kemper rack units, but last night, he had the smaller, compact Kemper Profiler and it sounded great. I just wondered if anyone here is using one of these and how does it compare to the HX Stomp? Thanks
  15. Mint condition, versatile octaver and don't know why it's called a 'Blue Label' when the label is Green! The range covers and caters for the different fretboard register and thus also allows better tracking. Barely used as using one in a multi-fx and works well on guitar, too. Boxed, bumpf £95 including Special Delivery postage Thanks
  16. That's Pwopa Tasty!
  17. Hi Peeps, Unfortunately, I'll not be able to attend on Sunday, but have a good one and it's always a great day. Cheers once again to all involved in the organisation and enjoy yourselves, Cos (Kebabkid)

  23. I've just spoken to my tech and he's had it where the octave was at the 13th fret and he described it just as I have and............................................... strings! He said the core could be damaged or stretched but you wouldn't know that from the outward appearance and that changes the physics of the string. I'll change them and let's see if you lot are the clever sods I believe you are Many thanks for chipping in and I've just found this:- The common term for this is metal fatigue. As string cores age and experience the wear and tear of regular play, they lose their elasticity, and can begin to sound “off.” Harmonics and upper register notes will be out of tune, and overall tuning stability may begin to suffer.
