  1. This. They are also made in the UK and in a very desirable, leafy commuter town in the UK. Labour cost and premises will be ludicrous. I just returned from an expensive repair bill on my vehicle. Total cost of parts £20. But 5 hours labour and tax made the repair huge. It’s why we dispose of so much stuff in advanced capitalist countries. It’s just cheaper to import from the far east. I’m just glad companies like Wal still exist in this era of cheap imports.
  2. The good news is at the current inflationary trajectory a pint of beer will also cost about a grand Wals are really expensive but if you really want one there isn’t really any option. As they are desirable with limited production runs second hand Wals are also disproportionately expensive so they will retain their value.
  3. apparently it was to reduce dead spots rather than aesthetics..
  4. This is all true but the really big change IMO was the transition from a travellers free festival to an organised profitable business. I can’t remember the full details but the clashes between the private security firm and travellers that caused the event to be cancelled for a year. When it returned there were police on site with better organisation and more infrastructure. Progressively more technology, fencing and perimeters were needed to stem the tide of ticketless punters. Glastonbury rapidly got organised in the early 90’s attracting bigger names (not just bands but vendors and investors).
  5. The final time I went was in the mid 90’s. It was getting a bit too big for me to pay for by then. I would still go if a free ticket came up … Idles and Khruangbin would be worth it. I would check out Billie Eillish and Sam Fender too. Not my taste really, but they both have something special going on. Like you I never really looked at the line up and spent most of my time enjoying the mad $hit going on in many of the peripheral areas and seeing bands on the smaller stages who were really into the whole experience. Really infectious energy.
