  1. Reading/Leeds and Boardmasters in particular have become right of passage festivals for teenagers who have just finished their GCSE’s. They go in big groups, can’t handle their booze and end up doing stupid things. The last festival I went to (free ticket to Bestival) was full of out of control very young and immature teenagers who were in a mess. Several groups I saw were a danger to themselves and others around them. There is no way I would have camped next to these guys. I’ve been to several festivals with wasted people but they had the collective maturity to handle their various stages of intoxication. Apparently there are discussions afoot about making Reading over 18s only after this year’s shenanigans. My daughter went to Reading and reported the same. Her group stayed awake all night and took their tents down due to the random groups of idiots slashing tents. The people involved aren’t hardcore anarchists just stupid and immature kids.

  7. I would agree that the tonerider P pickup is one of the best budget pickups out there. I got a used one off fleabay for £20ish and wasn’t expecting much but ended up genuinely impressed. On another thread somewhere is a link to an online shop offering brand new Squire CV P basses for under £290. After a decent setup these are decent instruments. I’ve heard mixed reports about QC but of the ones I have played they are as good as any Mex Fender.

  18. Im not sure Rock has ever been as predominant in the general population as we think. Certain musicians are remembered as they wrote such decent music it survives across many generations but a quick google of uk top selling singles of the 1960s, 70s and 80s shows that other than the expected Beatles and Stones many of the legendary artists barely have a foothold. Sure they had a big sway in the music press and album sales but were not as omnipresent as would be expected. Most of the bands I loved in the 80s and 90s made far less money and received less airplay than Banarama or Wham!/Bros. My kids definitely play songs by Stone Roses, The Cure and The Specials though and haven’t even heard of Bananarama. I don’t think rock is quite dead yet, it’s just having a lie down.

  25. When geekiness and obsession are banished from the world vintage guitars will become worthless and it will be safe to take those star wars figures out of their boxes and put the stamps on the envelopes. Until then I suspect there will be a market for them.
