  1. For the average bassist it already has two too many strings.. ha ha ha!!
  2. The original first Ashula from Ibanez did indeed have the top two strings fretless and the bottom strings fretted!
  3. She's a keeper!

  6. Thank you so much for taking the time to do the recording. Wow, that really is impressive!

I will always remember the laughs we had this day...
  8. Great review! Love the sounds too, really 'organic'. What's the lowest note it tracks without complaining?
  9. I agree, I like the EQ points on the MM heads. Especially in the low and mid positions. I only wish I could have more time with them to try out. @MoJoKe I must thank you for getting us the kit to review!
  10. In Naaaarfolk we barely hev electricicity or woss thaht cawled? Hent neva herd Moy trahctas makin all that din 😂 Ok, anyway ha ha - Something to be aware of @dannybuoy, I'll keep an eye on mine thank you!
  11. Aww! No, it's ok, I didn't take it as aimed My response was more of a clarification that I didn't want to appear negative towards Davie. The bass in question though.... eeeesh! The poor thing! lol We good 🍻
  12. I was once asked if I got to keep the kit I reviewed in the magazine. Wow, that would be pretty cool.. but I suppose that would have been basses numbering over 100. Sadly the answer to that question is no. Which is a shame as some have been absolutely and utterly stunning.
  13. Now this is a more interesting example. I'm not sure if I am repeating anyone else's posts due to my little screen I am typing on. This bass however is owned by Chris Cardonne who owns Kalium Strings (Previously Circle K). This monster was specifically built to show off the incredible range of strings that the company can make. I believe it was a NAMM show piece. Indeed, I've had a few sets of Kaliums including massive 190 gauge strings for an octave below a standard 4 string E. Kalium actually go much lower and certainly higher than my 7 string range. I forget who made the bass, but hopefully its is blatantly obvious it's not someone in their shed nailing strings to a body!
  14. Oh for sure, don't get me wrong, Davie has some really entertaining videos, I am familiar with them. The bass I had seen errr "peer reviewed" out in the wilds of the internet before Davie got hold of it. So my commentary is based on that rather than this specific video.
  15. Out of interest I went to look for the Schematics for my favourite Eden, the WT550 and grabbed those too. Looking forward to reading the later!

  17. Wow! I feel for you, my EBS ones have been dead silent. I wonder what was going on there!
  18. I've bought the little EBS ones and have found those to be really good. As a cheaper alternative I have some 'clones' that I think came from a German electronics website. However, this was all before D'Addario updated their cable kits. I liked the original plugs but they were a little larger than I would have liked even though the cable system itself proved to be rock solid. The newer connectors are much smaller, so definitely worth a look! I certainly will be investing when I need to.
  19. Absolutely! - And, as we are seeing with everyone throwing in high pass filters to remove the stodge from their sound and boosting the mids to 'cut through the mix, often just opting for a guitar type cabinet will suffice. Yup, using the ears instead of the eyes to, as you say, give the right tone for a particular setting, song or environment. Interestingly, I have added a cab sim to one of my chains but as yet it has remained off. So, for me, no amp or cab time in there at all.
  20. Ah! You got there first
  21. The bass in question was for sale on eBay for.. well, forever. It certainly received lots of ehem .. 'interest' on BassChat where it's shortcomings were duly noted. An interesting DIY project for a zero budget tinkerer, but I wouldn't trust it for any gig, anywhere.

    NBD!

Thank you, really. It means a lot to me to know that my reviews have been helpful. I always hope to do the instrument justice rather than impress any sort of ego. My mantra has always been "No Ego, No Shred, Just Bass!" Anyway, whilst we are here, I actually went back and watched the Combustion 4 video again a little while back and have ended up giving myself GAS too! I really want one ha ha!!! Great basses, so well made and the support from Sheldon Dingwall and his team is just brilliant. 👍
  23. I want the Fender to be 1, but it's the Lakland.
