1.
Can anyone give me info on a good compressor?

    I reckon I need one!
DBX, Trace Elliot SMX Dual Band.. um.. EBS Multicomp, but you may wanna just add a little EQ for the lower strings on the EBS.

  2.
Thats strange, because the acoustics of the room at the time, given that...well...to be frank...F to G sharp went down the best...

    Vibes wise.
There's something wrong if the person recieving the vibes is at the other end of the room lolz.. I was thinkin more like, sat on my cab keeping my pint company ;o)

  4.
he said there 'wasn't much call for the strings over here'.

Maybe if they bothered to advertise a UK contact, more people in the UK would wanna try 'em.. I'd looked at SIT but dismissed them cos they were so damn hard to get hold of!

For bespoke strings I put out a cheer for NewTone strings. - However I am being looked after the BassCentre for my ERB strings these days.. top notch also.

  5. Following purchase of a new amp, I no longer need this very fine piece of kit in my rack.

The unit is a rack mountable, dual channel EQ featuring 24 bands of ultra musical (i think is the phrase) EQ control. You can operate both channels completely independently or place the using in A+B mode, enabling both channels to share the same saved settings. It operates in both unbalanced and balanced input/output modes through normal 1/4 jacks. (patch leads are fine).
You pretty much have control of th eentire 20Hz - 20Khz range in small steps. I find that a little adjustment goes a long way, so its possible to go too far, but there are quite a few presets on the unit to start with. I will return it to factory 'reset' prior to packing for you.

I like to drag the 25Hz control down as far as possible... this filters out any frequencies that 99% of cabs cant produce anyway.. you know when your speakers f@rt and flap around? Easy to stop... no point wasting all that energy lol.

I have been using the EQ to create 'my sound' recently and am pretty chuffed to have found an amp that appears to be exactly what I have been after.. and boy have I spent too much money on preamps recently!!

I don't have a spare power supply for this unit. However it is very easy to get hold of one. You can nip down to Maplin and grab a 9V AC wallwart adaptor capable of supplying 800mA for next to nothing.. Infact, ebay would do one cheaper I am sure. I do have a PSU, but it is needed for another project I'm afraid (its not the original Alesis one, I included that with the sale of my Alesis 3630 compressor ages ago.) Alesis do sell these PSU's seperately, http://www.alesis.com/tech_notes.php?id=15 it is the P3 type.

I will post some pictures later.. however it looks just like this :-

From the Alesis site, The DEQ 224 is the half rack version of those below and differs very little.
DEQ 230
    DEQ230, DEQ230D 2-Channel Digital Graphic EQ

30 bands of extremely graphic EQ....

It wouldn’t be a stretch to call Alesis “The Graphic EQ Company.” Our MEQ230 is a standard in sound installations and studios, and the DEQ series now carries the torch with a groundbreaking approach to digital graphic EQs — for every application and
budget — that’s taking engineers by storm.

The DEQ230D updates our acclaimed DEQ230 with S/PDIF digital I/O and an internal power supply, keeping the same extensive programmability and intuitive, WYSIWYG-enabled user interface. And the latest addition, the DEQ224, gives a whole new meaning to “space-efficient,” packing two channels of 24-band digital EQ into a half rackspace.

From tweaking project studio acoustics to tuning a concert hall to balancing a mix, Alesis graphic EQs give you more features and better audio performance than any units in their price range.

Music by you. Graphic design by Alesis.

    Stereo 1/3-octave digital graphic equalizer

Enhanced 24-bit sound quality, 28-bit internal processing

At-a-glance display lets you instantly check settings for each band and channel. Locking feature prevents unwanted changes
Here are the links to the manuals that describe exactly what this fella can do.

£50 delivered is too much of a bargain, get it before I change my mind and tack on another ten quid ;o)

  6. I'll actually have to double check! I'm pretty sure it has the phono selection on the input selector, but having never needed to use it, I'm not 100% sure if it has the preamp stage as well. I would make the assumption that yes it does, but I will go and check for you!

I have a collection of vinyl, but never got round to buying a decent turntable to do it justice... however.. my bro has.. so I thik a trip to his house with a recording device of sorts to put all my discontinued vinyl on to CD ;o)

  7.
Ari and i had a bit of a jazz thing going on during the day, doing some standards...twoz fun!!! It was on a Saturday though...
Yes, the video is on my MySpace too!! Check it out everyone.. Jam and Ari were providing the soundtrack to the evening!

  8.
just get a fender jaguar!
Jaguar actually had a limited addition Fender Statocaster made! IIRC it was a glossy british racing green with luxury gold hardware and the Jaguar logo. The price tag was absolutely ridiculous!!!

  9. Having just taken delvery of a wonderful C.A Azur amp, my lovely A1 MK3 SE is up for sale. A respected seperate that has been tweaked by those folk at C.A.

I think its 30W per channel which is more than enough for front room hifi and studio monitoring (hence advertising it here) . Yours delivered for £50

The normal A1 model is featured on the CA website http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/default.php and there's a good few reveiews n' stuff on t'interweb.

Heh heh Cheers buddy. I thought as much...
I was considering moving away from the incredibly convenient Digam 3002 amp I'm using, in favour of tubes, and just began dreaming of some kind of utopian solution...
I think it would have to be based on Dr Who technology though... ah well, it shall remain the stuff of whimsy then.

    Lee-Man:
    yeah I thought as much...
You will regret selling the Powersoft. I say go for an all tube front end instead. I swear by D-Class! ;o)

  11.
p.s. Women find it pleasurable when I play low F sharps and Gs,and that sub E saves chat up time....
The mythical note, known as the 'Pink Note' is said to be approximately 32Hz. C1 appears to be the closest you'll get to that, first fret on a standard B string.

.... I know too much... lol..

  12.
Tell your guitarist to try out an Engl powerball. I reckon they sound much nicer than a dual rectifier. Probably cheaper too.
oh, i have come over all funny.... Love the powerball!!!!

  13.
I hope I can make it to the northampton one this year, I was gutted that I couldn,t make last years.
Can you bring your tour rig lol lol lol!!!!!!!!!

Maybe we need a bigger room ;o)

  14. One? NO FAIR!!!

Thats really difficult! ok, if I list one or two, can I give reasons?

Roger Taylor. I grew up listening to Queen and John Deacon is a hero pf mine, I guess I'd love to play bass with Roger and Brian.
Bonzo - well.. really need to give a reason? What a monster of the kit!
Thomas Lang - I want him to play in my band!!!! I think he'd be perfect! Thomas is almost a machine. His limb independence is almost scarey!
Mike Portnoy - I love DT. A huge influence on me, as I really love melody in my prog metal.
Dan Foord - Well, you'd have to, wouldn't you! Dan plays for a band called Sikth and I really do love his style of playing. Intense and very lively, which adds energy to the band's music. Not just 'a drummer'.
Chad Smith (away from chilis) - His playing with his 'bro' Glenn Hughes is absolutely awesome! Check out Hughes' 'Soul Mover' - There is so much groove in Chad's playing. I met both the guys up in Norwich a year or so ago and I think a bit of their amazing mojo rubbed off on me!

    Yep, thats about it!

  15.
That sounds like a really good idea. Surely other masterclasses could be held as well.
Yeah, totally. I think it's areally good idea! There are so many things that are a lot easier to demonstrate visually than by writing on a forum. Maybe we should get a list together of useful topics or things that people would like covering?

  16.
Would a VT1 pedal with a DI be useful?

    Dave
Dave... I think you can spot a gap in the market from miles away!! a BDDI type pedal with REAL valves in it? I really don't think you can go wrong mate!

Price it cheaper than the BDDI (if you can) and I think you are on to a winner!!!

  17.
YAY! Bass Bash  ;) ;)

as the set-up masterclass was so popular last time, would anyone be up for doing one again?
I'd find it useful to be setting up my own following the instructions as it happens. :)
I'll be doing one on how to acquire a new 175 gauge F# string free of charge.

and how to get away from an unstable suspension bridge, undetected.

  18. Sweet! Do like a good 7 string! mY guitarist's girlfriend has the 6 string version.. and has very kindly leant it to him.. lucky B&$^&*£!!!!!!!!!

Steve, yeh, my fave is the PG301 (???) white with maple board.. really nice. Paul let me play his very own model. Gotta say, it's nothing like the stock model.... but then, his has been worn in and been round the world a few times, numerous fret dresses and the neck almost feels like it has a different carve to the stock model. I don' care though.. would dearly love Pauls worn geetar!
