1. I possibly need talking out of this.. I suspect I am making a rather stupid move.

However, having replaced my Gas boiler recently (yeh ouch) the cost has eaten into my *Dan wants another Shuker bass fund*

I am thinking whether or not I should sell the Pod or not. I do use it, and it is a seriously good piece of kit, but I *could* get by without it, if it means replensihing my bass fund.

See, I can get another POD in the future, no problems.. but GAS wants me to have a shuker sooner ;o)

I am happy to post pictures if you want, but the unit is so new, it looks no different to that of the website.

All leads etc included. I'll also stick the *latest* downloaded drivers on a CD in addition to those that come with the unit. - The XT firmware is updated to the latest version.

Bought brand new boxed and sealed in late July 07.

Its great to meet everyone in the flesh- the net is a fantastic vehicle for contact but you can't beat a chat face to face about basses; I'd assumed Dood was around 5' 3" and then I look over and there's a Chris Squire sized giant grinning at me! Blimey!

lol lol!!!! yeh, I do tend to tower over people a bit! especially as 90% of the folk at the show were school kids!!

  3. Other than Nate strutting his funky stuff, and one or two BassChaters wandering around (Hi Nick! Nice to meat you mate!) - I thought the supplies of bass stuff was dissapointing and dismall.

To be honest the highlights of the show were my ole mate Andy James playing on the Ernie Ball stand, to an ever increasing crowd... and then.. er.. my ole mate Andy James playing on the LickLibrary stand.. to an ever increasing crowd!

Played some Phil Jones stuff .. nope.. doesnt turn me on... and also a six string sandberg.. that was 'ok', but could have been set up better.

Anyone who goes, will notice a real lack of some of the 'biggy' names at the show.. Warwick? where? Ampeg? where.....??? Epifani? EBS? - Maybe it would have been better to wait until the London Guitar Show.

Failing that, I reckon Namm or Frankfurt are probably on next years visit list.. Come on UK! You can do better!

  4. Ishibashi's non-export JAP (CIJ) Fenders get my vote! You can see mine on this thread.

I also own a JAP '89 Fender Power Jazz Bass Special.. considering its age and obvious heavy use, it is remarkably playable still - nothing has fallen off / worn out or broken. Thats a good sign!

  5.
Hasn't it just! Luckily a lot of the stuff that I bought and sold passed through BW/BT/BC so I wasn't losing huge wedges of cash on the used items (lost more in carriage costs than anything), my biggest regret was the MarkBass LMK & SA450 amps. I assumed they would be the cure to my woes and purchased new; unfortunately great amps that they may be, they didn't cut it live for me.

At least by giving a running commentary on BC of our trials, we not only entertain ('stupid git has more money than sense', style) but hopefully we can save one or two others some dosh. Failing that if you circle around one or two BCers long enough they offload choice bits of gear... no names shall be mentioned we know who we are :)
I hear ya! - I realsied recently that I bought and sold a lot of gear after selling my Ampeg SVP preamp. I bought a Warwick pre, the excellent Trace valve pre.. I bought the line6 XT pro and the Behringer Vamp before that...

and what have I just bought? Another SVP pro... which is looking like the solution to all the hassles I thought I was having in the first place!!! WHY did I get rid of the first one??

If I carry on this way, I'll end up with the original Hartke cabs too!! (nah.. the Epi is gonna stay I reckon) - Mebbe should have kept those Tech 4x10's too!!!

Speaking of preamps, dare I say it... I may end up taking the SVP to recording sessions instead of the Line6!! hmmmm... maybe not.. the line6 is a lot easier to haul around than my full rack!

  6.
hi Dood,
as always, even your quick posts put my long and rambling ones to shame
Thanks for the comparison with the Epi, it sounds like you're saying that the Epi 610 has a flatter response to the Accugroove? It's also interesting that you say how you don't really get the sound you like unless you really push the cab? I your cab is pretty new, so maybe it's still breaking in.
Nevertheless, I definitely don't want a cab that really needs to be pushed hard for best effects, as I'm mostly going to be playing at relatively low to moderate volumes - not 6x10 heaven
lol! I got a bit carried away! ;o) Um, I'm not sure, I think the Accu has a flatter response, as it does sound nicer plugged into my HiFi. So, I think the Epi has an EQ kinda programmed in there. Theres an upper mid clarity that accentuates a woody sort of tone at lower volumes, but when I'm playing with a band, the big cab just breathes a lot more.. and the bottom end really kicks in.

Yes, it's defintely still breaking in.. poor thing didnt leave the house for about 3 months!! I may have just about clocked up 3 hours playtime with it!

6x10 is certainly a beast. Um, I guess it doesnt need to be pushed hard to hear it working.. rattling along to a skin tickler, it will be just fine.. but, I really like drummers who beat 3 shades of... ehem... out of their kits, so being able to move a lot of air was imporatnt for me, as the bottom end is clearer and deeper.(two guitarists with stacks are on the menu for the new band)

Actually, knowing what I know now.. would have loved to have heard the Acme Low B4 in comparison.

  7. I use a winder of that description. Think mine's a DiMarzio one.

Yes, They are very good, on the end of an electric screw driver.. especially when it comes to changing strings on my 7 and 6 string basses.. you soon lose the will to live, winding by hand!!!

Picked mine up from soundcontrol years ago.. and it isnt showing any signs of wear.

  8.
I don't think that the lower end of multi-effects, where you have this difficulty, are aimed at gigging musicians.
I agree, if you you have 5 effects pedals and you'd rather they were in a really good multiFX unit, then, to an extent you should expect to pay 5x pedals worth for a good effects unit.

In reality, 5 rubbish pedals will probably get you a rubbish multiFX. 5 really good pedals, will get you an exceptional MultiFX rack ;o)

  9.
To a degree I've gone through very much the same thing (as has Dood I imagine) in the last year or two!
oh yes! Haven't we just! I think my bank account has taken a similar pounding to yours!!!

  10.
Hi
I have just found out that ABM makers of headless hardware have shut there doors. The owner has died and they are trying to find a buyer for the company without much luck from what I can gather. This will effect the supply of headless units unless ETS up there production. Unfortunately there is also some doubt to wither ETS is still a going concern.. I don't know where John gets his hardware from but I think this will have a knock on effect on the availability of this hardware for sometime. Not sure but I think that Status get ABM to build their single string bridge/tuner units. I could be total wrong on this so please correct me if you know different.
    Alan

p.s. Really like that bass. Love the whole headless idea I have never known why more people don't like them.
oh cr@p. I think I said this before, but now would be a good time starting a business making hardware in the UK..especially headless units!! I wish I was good with a lathe!!

  11.
Epifany UL310 (just how hi-fi are these cabs in comparison to the Accugroove?)
Hey Gwil'!

Jsut a quick post.. no doubt will revisit it another time..

I think the Accu and Epi are 2 different beasts. My way of describing them, is pretty much where I found the sound in my head was heading. I'd call it 'flatter response Vs HiFi'. How I would describe this, is that, sure some speaker cabinets are going for an uncoloured clean sound. Maybe aiming for that 'flat response' holy grail. They do sound very good. I really do love the sound of soft dome tweeters. Not everyone does.. but they sound nice with zingy new strings. I think the Accugroove kinda fits this description. Yes, they sound nice plugged into a CD player. In some ways, I really do miss that detailed top end in my rig. (I did even think about buying back the TRI210 and plopping it on top of my Epi to make a giant MoFo 8x10 arrangement!!!!!

On the flip side, is what I would decribe as HiFi. I think Epifani kinda fits in that description, but there are other cabs out there that maybe fit in better. They are clear and appear to be designed to do a particular job. People talk about an accentuated upper middle on the smaller Epi cabs for example, but they still retain a clarity and less colour than other cabs on the market.

I have to admit, that playing my Epi UL610 at home, I did start to wonder if I'd made a mistake... but... here's the bit I was talking about.. what ever EQ has been engineered into these cabs is there for a reason. I have wound mine up loud, so the speakers are really working properly, and things start to open up nicely. i dunno all the technical stuff, but at volume, things started to sound a lot more like I'd hoped for. Smooth! Dynamic and very powerful.

Ok, so the Accu 210 isnt a fair comparison.. but I suspect if Accu did a 610 as well, it would be a very impressive cab.

so.. next question, vintage or hifi? - I start with Hifi everytime and engineer the vintage in with the amp.. so hopefully whats going out the DI is what I expect. (I hardly ever mile a cab these days).

    ok.. enough rambling!

Yeah, can you post maybe a direct link to the area on Ishibashi site where you found that Precision.. ohh damn but I love it!!

I'm not finding it the most helpful site to navigate!

    Cheers

Sorry guys, I hadnt checked this thread for ages. The correct model number for this bass is:- PB70US TL BK - You'd have to contact Ishi' directly about it's availability. Mine was actually available from the catalogue when I asked. Looking back on it.. I suspect that Fender Japan may even have put a special order together for me, as those who have asked about them since are expecting that they may not be making them (for said catalogue).

I won't dwell on it, but you are unlikely to get one through the UK importers, unless they cobble one together out of spare bits.. something offered to me by one outlet. lol..

  13. I emailed Tobias/Gibson last year.. Forget the name of the person I had a response from.. said that they were going to arrange distribution in the UK *eventually* but I suspect it never happened. So, it looks like the US highspec Tobias basses are probably easier to get via import.

However you can get a korean made 'Tobias' through SoundControl.

  14.
+ 1 for the Powersoft K10!!!!
Very impressed with my Powersoft.. I almost in a moment of madness thought about selling it recently. Thankfully I realsied I was an idiot.. where else are you gonna get 2kRMS in a 9Kg 1u rack?

yes, 1K per channel is excessive and not necessary.. but hey.. the cab is 1500W RMS.. may as well have the headroom for the F# string ;o)

  15.
Like Dood said, the BK looks amazing. I plan on getting some of these to power the rig for me and my guitar player when we hit the road.
I've owned a couple of BK poweramps.. literally bombproof ;o)

  16.
The amps are rubbish because they are cheap, they are old and they are thrashed by players who don't care what they do to them!
Yes.. cheap.. easy to replace after those who have no respect for other peoples equipment have trashed them... Then complain becasue the cost of room hire went up. Grrr!
But, my view is that you're in a rehearsal room for the band to learn to play a number together so the sound doesn't matter.
A bad sound at band practice is not good.. for me, its annoying and doesnt do the band any favours. I believe a band should aim to get the very best sound in rehearsal.. and record it. Music is for listening to, so should it not be nice to listen to even when learning songs? Just my 2p. ;o)
