1. There's some cool basslines here! nice one!

I'm going to be a bit lazy actually and just tell you about just 2 on my Website. (Yes, I should upload something new.. sorry!)

    go here http://www.danveall.co.uk/media.htm

But I like these. The first is called 'I Want The World'. Pretty much the whole bass line is tapped. Especially the intro as you can hear. I think the bassline is actually more visually interesting than what you hear in the mix. The verses feature a rolling three note motif, but is tapped in octaves. (thats not an octaver, thats 6 finger tapping baybee! lol lol) (you can hear the motif briefly at the end of the intro too)
The breakdown also features a typical Sheehan/Myung octave tapped pedal too.

The second I'd like to share is 'Psycho'.
More chops than a butchers shop!! We sat there in a very 'blurred' state (lol) dropping notes off of bars and making things difficult for ourselves!

Look out for the bass, guitars and keyboards all sweeping in unison after the keyboard solo.

Other tracks I really like are 'No Solution' with a cool 5/4 groove that later modulates to 4/4 but still has the same groove and 'Broken Dreams' which I think has my favourite all time guitar / keyboard solo, over more time changes than I care to mention, in about 30 seconds! check it out!

I really hope you like them!

  2. Awww I have a confession to make! My two 'widdles' that I mainly use for soundchecks are 'bullwhip' by that Vai type chap and (if I have got the right song) the B pedalled bassline in Voices by DT .. actually.. I don't think thats the right song.. I'll have to check.

The first one is so I know what my full range sound will be like, the second is to check 'bottom end'.

They are not flashy, but Bullwhip seems to cover a pretty wide range and has some nice warm up style stretches in. 'especially if you try to cram all 45 seconds in 30!! ;o)

I will noodle for a bit too, playing very light and very hard so Mr engineer gets a good idea of my dynamic range and any effects / solo sounds I may use.

bullwhip vid is on my MySpace

  3.
Hey Dood if you were close enough or just happened to be visiting you'd be more than welcome to blast through them (I have access to a private rehearsal space day or night). I can only begin to imagine the possibilities with both of our 6x10's and a 2x500watt output :)
I think you'd need to surgically remove me from one of the amps eventually! - I think I'm a bit of a distance away from you.. but yes I would LOVE to try 'em out!

Though I have this horrible feeling it will have me panging after Tech cabs again, sir!!

  4. I even thought about having the cab myself ;o)

Here's a thumbs up for Gwil. Top guy to deal with and if this cab has only been used a few times, then it is practially brand new, as I didn't gig it anymore than a few times either, before I went to 'more cones'.

I love the clarity of the Accu' gear, really nice indeed.

  5.
I wonder if this topic will prompt a scathing "you're just a nobody" attack from PJB..? :)
lol.. I don't think anyone from bassworld will forget that posting, a legend in the sport of foot shooting!! lol

  6.
Ok cheers guys.

Now just to find a good selection of 7 string sets.
For tapping, NewTone strings can make you a custom 7 string set. They are lovely bright sounding strings handmade in the UK. Very nice. Failing that, expect to go to a lot of suppliers and buy sets of 6+1 strings.

Strings Direct and Stringbusters will do this if you contact them directly. Elite strings via House Music have been making up my sets recently. Rotosound are pretty easy to get of in singles too.

Check out other suppliers such as overwater in the UK as well.

Their main site seems to be temporarily offline.....
oh yes, the girl there was top notch.. tho I never actually got round to ordering a new bass hat! duh!!

  8. It;s interesting how I arrived at Epifani to be honest. I'd originally decided that the PA route was where I should be going, for that full range 'flat' response.

I had a couple of Tech Soundsystem (now Tec-Amp) 4x10 cabs, that to be honest, maybe I made a mistake selling. I do miss them sorely.

I wanted to have one big cab that could deliver 'the goods' and be similar to the HIFI sound of my previous cabs. The Epifani does sound very similar, but the tweeter to my ears sounds a little raspy in comparison. Although turning it down has helped a treat. I think it's a sensitive li'l beggar!!

On the flip side though, there is one thing that the Techs as single cabs couldn't deliver in comparison to a big 6x10, and that is raw trouser flapping bottom end! (they were physically small boxes) I'd definitely have to use both cabs to match my Epi. I'd rather have too much and back it off, than struggle to get it from a cab. I'm running 1Kw off each side of my power amp, so I can drive the cab without any fear of meltdown!

One thing I have noticed in my cab (like the Techs, actually) is the less scooped response really does make your 'attack' and clarity stand out! Yup.. don't pretend to get the bassline right, cos the front row can hear you!! and the back row... and Mrs Miggins down at number 32... who is partially deaf.

Flipside... damn they are light! I think mine weighs in at a couple of kilos heavy than warwickhunt's Tech 6x10 at 32kg. Both are ridiculously easy to handle. Mine has rear handles and wheels allowing you to kick it up and push like a trolley.. but I promise you.. you can carry it fairly easily!

It depends on what sounds you're after and the depths of your pockets, but I'd recommend Epifani, Acme, Accugroove and Tech who are all fairly similar in comparison to other cabs.

  9.
I need to come to your parties - last one I went to, all I heard was dance music and Mungo Jerry :)
t'was a bit random actually!! We started off listening to Roni Size... followed by Korn and Pantera.. we had a folk moment, with a lot of stuff I had never heard of, which was really cool.. then we all pl;ayed drinking games with a bit of Jaco & co!!

long live the 'random playlist' on MP3 players!!
