1. 1. Is a light bass cabinet important to you? Yes

    2. Would you be interested in a smaller designed cabinet for maximum portability? Yes (only if capable of enough bass) the Loud/Deep/Small law applies.

    3. What is the weight of your current rig now? cab= 35 Kg, 4u Rack = hmmm 15Kg?

    4. Have you ever had portability issues with this cabinet before? Not yet

    5. Would a Neo speaker make the amplifier more appealing? Mine is NEO and the best thing I have ever done ;o)

    6. Would you want casters on the amplifier for added portability? Yes, my new cab has the insert ones, so the cab does actually sit on the floor, but tilts back onto its wheels for ease of movement.

    7. Would you want the input to be in the back? Yes

    8. Would you want the Ohm rating to be 4? Yes, I have a stereo poweramp, so this isnt really a problem

    9. Would you want the power rating to be over 200 watts? defintely. You cant have too much headroom

    10. Is a metal grille cover attractive on an amplifier? Yes, strong enough to stand on, if it's 'going out on the road'.

  2. Also, try a different lead. I once had a similar problem with a little electronic tuner. The 'sleave' side of the cable had come away from the attached plug, leaving the 'tip' (signal) cable connected. The tuner picked up lots of main hum because of this (as the cable could no longer 'screen' the signal). Now, UK mains in 50Hz which does read fairly close to a low G ,give or take a bit. A possible cause!

Try changing the battery on your bass too, if it's an active one.

  3. Yes, I was impressed with the Pod manual. It's much easier to read as a 'hard copy' too. Some manuals are very technical and expect a level of understanding of terminology before opening the cover.

  4. Steve.. getting those ole stock valves out will be an improvement to start with lol!! - Actually, i'm not sure what they will be in the 'hammerite' SVP's.. but they were of dire quality in my old black front SVP. Some chinese rubbish.

I'd be interested to hear what the differences are when using '82's all the way through.

  5.
did any of you ever hear Paul Gilbert's version of "2 become 1"? sort of mashed up with a little Led Zep and Sabbath, pretty good stuff really! maybe he should crash their tour......
he he! yes, I saw him perform it at a clinic um.. last year? year b4? I can't remember. Awesome though.. definitely improved on the spice girls version!!

  6. I reckon if I had the spare cash (and remember I don't use a 4 string at all) I'd have it off you straight away mate! I think it'd look just lovely next to my black one lol.

Yes, I admit it.. My black beauty CIJ was a crazy moment of GAS.. but the amount of bass you get for ya money is seriously good, I think anyway.

  7.
Only worth the investment for a pro or extreme - like far, far worse than Tayste or Dood - gear whore who needs to combine different amps, pre's, rackmount fx, stomp boxes etc. in any configuration imaginable.
OMG! Wooh! I got a name check! COOOEL! ;o) - You are quite correct though... I personally really couldnt be dealing with piles of pedals and controllers all over the floor. I much prefer my POD xt rack and the TC GForce. Everything gets done in a rack and controlled by a single MIDI footboard with CC outboard if necessary.
Just my preference though. Not saying it is right.. just uber-tidy for me.

  8. Your P7000 is the same size as my P5000 that I had, and will fit nicely into a standard depth ABS case. I used a Stagg one, a Gator one and another 'non brand' one with no issues what so ever.

If you're in any doubt, measure the length of the amp from the ears to the back and then measure a rack case to make sure is is longer. The P series come with rear mounting ears, that you may decide to remove for use in an ABS case. Don't buy a 'shallow' rack case by mistake!

Incidently, my Powersoft 1u poweramp is very deep and overhangs the back of my rack, but there is still plenty of room to get the lids on safely.

  9. Dood, 31, loves ERB (6's and7's)

Jack of all trades and a master of.. ahh.. ehem!

I think underneath I am still very much interested in 'lead guitar' that I used to play years back. I loved the things that guitarists could do, but bass players seemed to shy away from in this area when I was first learning. My heart and passion is 'in da low end' and there's nothing like driving a song with a good drummer, standing back watching the other guys wailing and making people happy. I like to have my 'little moment', but am not the sort to try to endulge in a yawn-some solo. I'd actually love to play a harmony solo with say a keyboard player or guitar, in the middle of a song. That sounds just awesome!!

I do write solo 'bits', but not really as much as I should. I am much more of an honest team player!!

hmm do I ever overplay? well, live maybe.. it's a show after all! Bells and Whistles thrown in! Speaking of which, I do love modern prog. Exciting interludes and challenging time sigs keep me interested on stage and hopefully doesnt bore the audience.

    Thats me. (today anyway)

  10.
Fear of the unknown!

Plus in-ear monitoring isn't cheap, especially if you want truly individual mixes. My band made the jump earlier this year. The biggest snag we have, because we run our own sound, is that if we're all in-ears and don't have a mate with us to sit out front and listen to what's going on, should something major go wrong (like the left channel of the mix conking out, we've no way of knowing.

On the phones front, we have E2s and E3s. Me and drummer using E3s, singer and guitarist using E2s. I haven't tried gigging the E2s, but they were a little lacking in bass response when noodling around with the IEMs when they first arrived. The E3s were definitely better. However I still find I need to hear/feel the real low part of my signal coming from my amp to be truly comfortable. Of course a big part of it is getting the seal right when using the phones. No seal = no bass.

I agree with what others have said in respect of monitoring FOH via phones, it will work to an extent but won't tell you what the sound out front is actually like for the punters.
+1 that.. I wonder if there's the fear of not being 'right in' the music too? The same excuse used for not wearing ear protection, as some brands of plugs can make you feel 'detached' from the atmosphere as the energy seems to be tamed through attenuation of volume.

  11.
Ooooh, get you - having hair to match your eyes! :)

Can we see a picture?
bloodshot? ;o)

and.. um.. mebbe.. I'll get the camera out if I have a mo later. Do you think we'll get it in the latest edition of the LowDown? Under 'Most irrelevant posting by 2 members'? lol lol

  12. Something to add..

Those of you who have ER moulded ear plugs will know what I am talking about..

If you go to a gig and listen to the sound without plugs, in general, the mix in 'the room' is not bad, (well should be good) despite being a wee bit loud.. but when I put my plugs in, i get to hear things at a lower volume but still nice and clear. I have noticed that wearing my plugs makes the PA mix stand out more.. and a lot of the time it's not anything like you'd expect a 'good' PA mix to be in comparison to what you hear without plugs!

Much of the time, when I listen to gigs with my plugs in you can here what frequencies have been pulled down because of what the sound of the room 'adds' to the mix, 'up loud'.

So, my thoughts are that previewing the FOH mix through earphones wont be useful. Using earphones as your stage monitors would be very good though.

  13.
....not that I'm asking you to give anything away of course, but where do you typically look for your bargain buys?
I've had one or two successes on ebay, but haven't really come across anywhere else for good second hand buys other than this 'ere website and it's community of happily trading members!

I fancy a 70s Fender, probably a P bass, before they hit crazy money and I don't really know where to look other than to keep searching ebay in case something pops up. Don't really want to go down the vintage dealer route and pay vintage dealer premium.

Any suggestions? I'm a few months off buying one, but at least it gives me something to aim for!!
My bargain buys are usually hunted down with meticulous and almost anal fanaticism. (Is that actually a word? - and no, that doesnt mean being fanatical about bottoms either lol..)
I will sit and hunt the internet / magazines / ebay / BC for the best price and lean on dealers till I get what I want. Those who crack pretty much get my business again! ;o)

As for the 70's bass, I know it has been discussed to the nth degree; I couldn't afford the 67 P Bass I dreamt of, so went down the reissue route instead. 'Stag's mate owns a 74 P bass that looks just like my reissue. I'd love to A/B the two, just to see how close the reissue is. (oh.. and to see if a little mojo rubs off on to mine!!)
