Thanks mate it's lovely
I was very worried about it when I saw it with no finish .. It looked really really plain
Mighty thoughtful of you to let Jon off the phone .. we still didn't have enough time
We had a fine time .. Lot some very nice basses at Jons, plus Poptart had a W&T and Nordy along for the ride, plus Rich's Shuker, both mine and, by far the most notable bass there by far, my heavily mojo'd white Fender P Lyte
Saw some possible fingerboard woods for your projectGot some pics here if you wannnnnnem ...
lol .. really plain??? Pics jaw up AGAIN ;o) - its incredible how fast time zips by in bass world!! I'd have loved to have been there! Sounds like quite a day! Excellent!
Mmmmm please do send my pictures... I'd love to see them! Usual addy ;o) -
Good grief!
Some wonderful wood on this thread!!!
Hey Si', I was talking to Jon as you walked through the door at his place.. I knew it was 'the big day', so I got off the blower a bit quick!!
Love the Singlecut pic too.. -

SO,If the extended range is growing in popularity (more models/makes are becoming available) where does this leave the humble 4?
I think the 4 will pretty much be untouched by what is happening around it. I don't think we will ever be without the 'classics' - Precision/Jazz etc etc. Four string basses have been such a big part of the rich tapestry of modern music. Yeh, I don't see them disappearing.. But we will always have companies like Bass Surgery trying out new and wonderful designs on us! -
Totally off topic for which I apoligise unreservedly, but on a lighter note I did hear Chris Moyles quoting a Chuck Norris fansite on his show. One of the quotes made me titter. It said something like, "Ghosts exist because Chuck Norris kills people faster than Death can process them"
Yes, Chuck also has no chin, only another fist hiding under his beard. Me n' chuck are related lol..

ok.. thats the humour to lighten the topic.. -
Lets nip this one in the bud shall we. I would very much like this thread to get back to a good discussion as suggested by the OP. Personal jibes, attacks etc that have nothing really to do with the subject are not necessary and I'm starting to get a little tired.
Sooo, just to throw one out there, if my humourous hint wasn't enough... I will be very disappointed if I have to lock the thread altogether because one or two people are spoiling it.
Thanks, - no more warnings. Ooooh actually, I quite fancy dishing out some profile warnings to users as well.. see what takes my fancy. Chuck? What do you think? -
...that one came out of left field. And I thought we were doing so well too.
C'mon people, lets chill out a bit and get back on topic - ERB.
Or Dood will set his beard on you.
Its not the beard that people should fear... Chuck Norris just popped in for a cuppa and has a full can of b*tchslap on the go. -
Beat me to it Steve.. I reckon there needs to be a chill pill handed out. Lets not start throwing stones alright?

Track 1 - '20 Questions' was played with the 1965 Jazz bass with flats through a 60's Ampeg B-15n.
Track 2 - 'Alright' was played on the MIA Jazz Deluxe with rounds into a Line 6 Bass POD direct to ProTools.
I am so happy.. thank you ears, thank you ... lol -
Eminence, the Speaker company, actually offer free plans to make cabinets for their own speakers, on the website. I remember seeing a cabinet for a 15" cone.

Ok Captain. Roight...... come 'ere you li'l wippersnapper! -
Hey everyone.
Thank you for your patience. I am sorry to say to those who have put in an offer on my bass.. I am withdrawing it from sale. It looks like I will be able to keep it after all, due to a delay in GAS circumstances lol
Apologies and thanks for the interest. I guess it has reminded me how sought after the Non-Export CIJ basses are!
All the best,
dood. -
You *were* serious!! - Looking good, looking good!!!
QUOTE (MacDaddy @ Nov 24 2007, 04:06 PM)
34' scale
I've decided on 32'. It makes more sense as the Kubicki's and King Bass are both 32' - should make getting strings easier too
Thanks for all the positive comments, next up will be pics of the neck woods.
Dude.. 34" and 32" ;o) I think you have been refering to a 34 foot and 32 foot scale above ... its ok, we're only jestin' -
yeah lovin it! I thought the thread was destined for the gutter, but its good to see some real meaty posts...
Simple really, people should just engage with what they are comfortable with, enjoy themselves, and try not to turn art into religion.
A basic understanding that we don't all think along the same lines would go a long way too.
Vive la difference
Cool ;o) -
Loads of my friends have come down with it... seems odd that it seems to be hitting so many so quick.. more so than these 'manflu' symptoms that make it on to regional news programs... i blame....
ummmm...
turkeys! lol -
There's enough hot air on this thread to inflate several zeppelins

What's your view Finn? -
I have a Trace SMX dual band compressor I might be selling soon so if interested send moi a PM!
Cheers
ped
P.s my fave compressor ever is the Line6 LA-2A model, just amazing!
Ped, I'd love an opportunity to A/B the trace against my EBS Multicomp, as essentially they are similar pedals.. both dual band compressors etc.... -
Hi all,
my 'joke' answer would be any early Metallica or Dream Theater Albums, where the bass is so buried in the mix, it may as well not be there at all!!
I really (if you'll excuse the phrase) 'get off' on those recordings of voices on their own, like one singer on their own.. um.. the sort that is so close mic'd you can hear their jaw move! Sounds great through a really good system. A couple of favourites: - OLD: John Lee Hooker, I think the track is called 'The Waterfront'. My 'new' choice would be that ther' Joss Stone gal, doing a cover of 'I Had A Dream'. There are plenty more, of course.. but I do think that sometimes I want to right a bass line that follows the vocal line closer than say a normal pop bassline. Does that make sense?
Take for example Thomas Lang (not the drummer!!) "Me and Mrs Jones" I LOVE the bass on that track! -
Woh! forget my previous comments! The thread is alive!
-
was anyone expecting that?
lol.. well, it has been interesting to see what opinions people have I guess.. Ones as heated as religion and politics by the looks of it! -
I think the thread has run its course... and not really arrived at any worthy conclusion!
I have to say that this site does seem to be very old fashioned, it's not very friendly, and "look I'm having a bass built by John Shuker", probably why I don't come on here very often nowadays.
Sorry I am going to have to defend BassChat. I really can not see in anyway that it is old fashioned. The forum is 'made' by the people who use it.. and we have the very youngest to the wise elders on board, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I could name plenty of other forums, whose users appear 'not friendly' ;o)
I would invite you to tell the BassChat team what it is you don't like about the site... you are welcome here and I'm sure any views on improvement will be taken into consideration!
As for the build diaries, you don't *have* to read them lol. -
I would hazard a guess that the second mix is the POD and active bass. I prefer the zing on the top of the bass in the second track.
If thats the one with flats, I have to rethink my views on them, cos usually I cant stand the things!!
Shuker Courses

Posted
I believe, if my memory serves me correctly, Johngh on this forum was planning to do the course. He maybe able to help.
Jon offers the course to build an instrument from scratch, in which he helps in the process from start to finish, but it really is your hardwork that goes into making the instrument 'happen'.
I can imagine the sense of achievement afterward is very satsifying!
I'd say go for it! Really haven't got a bad word to say about Jon.
