The end of all-in-one bass heads perhaps?
Well, for many years I have sworn by using seperates. It makes sense to me.. but only because no manufacturer has yet been able to build an amp that suits all of my needs in one single box. Though, the market appears to be changing and I feel that I am getting closer to an ideal.
but boy is it costing an arm and a leg!! lol -
Take into consideration some of the points made in this thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...st&p=111484

Saw them at MusicLive. They looked good and sturdy with a nice product range, but I didnt get a chance to try them out. Their staff were very friendly and, without being deragory or sexist or anything like that, the model they had on the stand was just lovely. She had a nice smile and I would have bought the amp just for that ;o)
I used to have an Aerodyne from Japan - build quality was very good.
I own a power jazz bass special.. a late 80's active P/J bass.. also a Japanese. its 18 years old and is in amazing condition considering the life it has had. Also have a CIJ PBUS bass that I love to bits. Better than the US 69 I used to own. -
p.s. note these have the 60's reverse kluson keys that the CIJ's dont have in the current stock.

I stand corrected! I cant find the links I used to view the complete CIJ/MIJ current range! I wonder if they have been removed? Fender USA find out they were exporting maybe? After all the PBUS models aren't meant to hit europe, hence the 'non export' models. (Only cos they're better and cheaper than the US ones he he he he he)
However u-box and its search criteria works ok. (link halfway down the page) it's a kinda 'scratch and dent' site, put most of the goods are brand new and untouched. You only have to ask Ped about the Bacchus bass he had from Ishibashi.. was sssooooo sweet!
Anyway, on the LHS of the U-Box pages are some search boxes.I found these for you after a very quick search. HOWEVER they are all Fender USA basses. Sorry. I'm wondering if the CIJ/MIJ stuff has been removed from the UK pages.

<> there ya go! Email in English.. They do speak very good english (better than me, no doubt!) and are fantastic. If you know what you want, (which it appears you do) then you are halfway there! That model is available and likely to be a colour choice. I believe they most likely is black with a tort guard, as it tends to be the favourite in that model. My contact there was called Hiroaki and was an absolute star!
Those of you who use light weight gear is it a compromise of weight for sound.
BIGd
I am a firm believer that when it comes to amplification, there is no relation between weight and sound. Though I suspect that there are plenty of manufacturers out there who would sell you that belief as a premium. lol lol
Infact, one of the 'lightweight' amp manufacturers *did* add weight to one of their amps... to stop it from sliding off the cabinet under heavy vibration! -
Oh.. and obvioulsy, ensure you aren't voiding any guarantee or warranty on new kit by lifting the lid ;o)
-
Or download a manual.
I suspect very few manuals include a schematic diagram of the amp. Though having said that.. it is *possible* to locate said schematics on the web instead. -
Nice, I am getting one then. Line6 are the best!!
Yes.. I do have a rather painful reminder of a recent sale I had to make. If that wasn't bad enough.. my car siphened another 180 quid from my bank account today. It has been a very expensive couple of months! -
I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd let you know my findings guyz.
My mate brought round his pocket POD tonight and we stuffed it into my stack. We didn't spend a great deal of time editing patches, but I can confirm it sounds AWESOME through my gear! Filthy distortions to clean woolly bottom end.. even managed a wierd mark king rattley sound as well!
I think if one comes up cheap, I may just say WHAT THE HELL and buy!! - the darn thang takes batteries as well, so you can use it as a personal practice amp with earphones (and an MP3/CD line in) for silent practice.
We tried it with my guitar too. Some brilliant sounds in there as well. Obviously as a guitar unit, it will be.. but I was excited about the bass tones as well!
The unit, despite being a plastic box, looks really sturdy! It features a number of different connections.. a belt clip!! and the best bit? USB to connect to your PC! genius! You can edit patches using the line6 software.. and I wonder if you can use the line6 drivers as per the XT for latency free recording? That I don't know yet.
I think I have just fallen in love with distortion again ;o) -
Just invited the chap over to Basschat ;o)
-
yeah, looks like a normal 'export' model too. I reckon, and don't quote me, it maybe a little on the pricey side? - I'm slightly worried about the £20 shipping.. will it ship bubble wrapped only? lol.. I'm not sure that would include any insurance.
edit: I see it comes with a case... ok.. me wrong.. -
Personally, I would house it in a 6U rack allowing 1U top and bottom for ventilation.
My old Pro 2 was racked this way and only foam padded on the corners as they are notorious for overheating.
yes, they do get a bit warm! i ended up mounting a 12v dc PC fan in the back. a little 12cm one, connected to a little power supply (walwart adaptor). It's amazing how little forced air cooling u need to make the whole amp outer casing only warm to the touch! As the SVT2 has a mesh back, I attached the fan using nothing more than cable ties. (mounted the fan so it sucked warm air out, you don't wanna blow dust and yuk inwards.
$u was fine in this case, but 6u would leave you space for a rack tuner / effects / wireless etc! -

I'm guessing this is the one in question. In which case, certain models do have a configurable primary winding. -
Hi guys, I'd be interested in hearing what the physical condition of your cabs is like, now they have all been well-gigged.
How have they coped with been thrown in the back of vans etc. Have they all stood the rigours of the road?
Mine is still new and hasn't been abused yet. Infact, it has been so molly-coddled, I dont think there's a hair out of place on it
