Longest and most stable relationship in my life
Dood replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
I was just thinking - I started playing bass 31 years ago aged 16 and through all the ups and downs I've experienced in my life, playing bass has been the most consistent refuge for me. I love being a bassist!!!
Absolutely the same for me 100% - I started guitar when I was probably about 9 and Bass properly from the age of 13. I absolutely can not see a day when I will stop - a more permanent fixture in my life than a tattoo! Spread the love! -
Hi Guys! Thank you for all your comments and suggestions ready for next year. We will take all of these into acount when organising the next one, they are very much appreciated. Great to see all you pictures being added - it would be great to have some posted on our Facebook page - London Bass Guitar Show. Please feel free to upload them. Lovely to have met so many of you at the show on the BGM stand! Thanks for coming over for a chat! Claire
Hi Claire, I've just read the latest update: http://www.londonbassguitarshow.com/latest..._medium=twitter That's great news - What a brilliant atmosphere and definitely a successful show - I've added my pics already (The Hartke and Rotosound ones) - it'd be great to see more of the show too! Looking forward to next year! Dan.

Yep, I'll +1 that - I really had a great time down at the show. Here's a pic of me at the Hartke stand with the team - we were havin' such a laugh!
Just back from London bass show at Olympia. Say no more
Hey Clarky! Great to meet you at last! Totally agree - Even at BassDay, I tried to demonstrate the more subtle tones of Shuker basses to passers-by - but I couldn't bloody hear anything because of all the shed building coming from a stand opposite (and to the right a bit) - My mate Darryll was demo'ing on the stand directly opposite to me and we just ended up pulling faces at each other everytime Mr JackHammer started off in his one man cruisade to rid bass players of their hearing. I have to say, not that I was every much of a slapper anyway, these shows are really putting me off the technique. Seems to be a lazy excuse for talent, when it is done badly.
I had a wonderful time yesterday with Al and Matt (homer and machines!) TM Stevens was fantastic, A real highlight for me. I also got a chance to play the Sterling Ray34CA, Its safe to say I'll have one of those shortly! I didnt find the volume too bad but I really did appreciate going out for a breather every now and then just do re-pressurize my insides! Great to meet everyone I did meet and to those of you that didnt, I'm really sorry I missed you! Oh, and thanks Machines for this photo; Please note, I was entering my 36th hour of being awake so was feeling a little past my best come this point!
Hey Ste' That's an awesome picture! - I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to catch up for a coffee and chat. - Ya know, from reception it took me nearly an house to actually get in to the main venue as I bumped in to loads of fine basschatters for a natter - and that's pretty much how the day panned out for me! ya know, I only picked up TWO basses all day! Sadly, with all the racket around me - I didn't even bother plugging in the £8k Fodera or the Brian May bass!! - Though gotta say, I would have the BM bass - that was cute! ha! Just wanna say, it was great to meet so many basschatters and put faces to names! By far one of the best bits of the day for me was meeting y'al!!
GB were one of the main culprits for the slap filth lol Some stunning basses, but I generally stayed away on account of the noise....as thats all it was Si
Hey Si! Yeah, that's why we took refuge and grabbed a coffee for an hour! Certain stands were noted for their dreadful noise pollution heh! - but it was great to have a mo' away from the noise to have a natter with ya!

Check out the line 6 range of products, such as Toneport, POD GX, UX1, UX2 etc - Yes they do a whole lot more than just input your dry sound, but they really are great fun!
Result: over £1500 raised for the Samaritans and a local charity.
That's fantastic news! Well done to all those involved!
*cowers*
Heh heh! - When you go see Jon, take some choccy biccies along as well. Bless him, he works so hard I don't think he gets out much! - Oh and if he offers a viewing of the fine wood store, I'd highly recommend it (if you can resist the temptation of a new bass that is!!) ;o) Here's another +1 for Jon's immaculate work.

Look out for this ugly mug! ha ha! - I'll prob be bringing my Shuker with me too and hanging around the Hartke and Rotosound stands.
I'm with Dood on this one. Buckeye is a great choice IMO and if you don't mind I'll show you mine
Ahhh Pete! LOVE that bass!
-
Never knowingly mixed the two, I pretty much used Factory settings - there are a 100 on there ( I think), so a good sound wasn't hard to find! Each patch can be eq'd, so I never had any problem with getting bass....
Ahh cool! Sounds good - Thank you!
Would I be better off ditching Sonar and perhaps try using something a little less heavy on the system, maybe Reaper which I also have?
Reaper is fantastic. I love it and yes, it's nice and light on the system too.
First thing I'm going to do is install windows7, 64 bit version, after speaking to a few computer boffins, they seem to think it should make a big difference to the performance, and it would allow me to add another 2GB of RAM if needed.
A Dual Core Processor computer (for example Intel's Core 2 Duo) will benefit from running a 64bit OS and yes, - in my machine, having a mere 4Gb RAM installed - the 64bit OS can address all of it, whereas a 32bit version can not. One thing to take in to consideration is that to make full use of the benefits of a 64bit OS, you will need to make sure that your Interface is running 64bit drivers, your DAW is a 64bit version (Reaper is available in 64bit thankfully) - and then if you chose to run plugins in the DAW too - then 64bit is the way to go. However, you can still run 32 bit software, drivers and plugins on a 64bit OS. W7 has 'bridging' to enable it.

If you want a free version of Guitar Pro 5 - Google 'TUX'. They both are good, but riddled with head bashing frustrations I think - Guitar Pro 6 isn't perfect, but it's definitely an improvement in GUI in my opinion - though as Bob says, there's a few things that you have to do differently between versions which can be frustrating!
By the way, dood, you rock
Awwwww, that's a very nice thing to say! Thank you! - I do rock, but generally back and forth with my head resting on me knees he he he! It's the madness of this place

I'd just add that if anyone were planning on leaving the amp in a bag whilst in use, to make sure that the fan vents are not obstructed - as they can get pretty hot inside, even if the case doesn't feel like it's baking. Which could lead to component failure.
