      And how did it go?

It was OK thanks. I'd seen Wilko and the guys almost 2 years back, and they were absolutely amazing then
Perhaps because it wasn't too long after his life-saving operation....
Not quite as amazing the other night - but perhaps my expectations were a bit high? Perhaps also, the sound wasn't quite as top-notch as last time
But that said, I was glad I went. Not least because I got myself a Norman T-shirt :) :)
Glenn T was pretty good. He's a great guitarist - nice fella too
He's doing a lot of work and donating CD profits to the Trussell Trust :)

  2. Ah, the fretless MIJ is a '62 RI... So should I keep to Tort? Hmmm
  3. Update - the Tort is back on my Roadworn Jazz. It just looks like it "belongs" there. I think I'd have preferred the pearl if it had been more creamy / yellow / aged However, now I have a new dilemma - shall I put the pearl plate on my MIJ Fretless Jazz? The Tort plate on that isn't as nice as the fretted Jazz... What do you think folks? Thanks for your replies
  4. I fitted a Kiogon stacked knob control plate on my Fender Roadworn Jazz yesterday. Mightily impressed with the sound and tone controls. It sounded good anyway - but brief ownership of a Flea Jazz made me want to try stacked controls on this Jazz. I have to say, I think it's an improvement and I'm well pleased. But I also wanted to try a change of scratchplate (or is it Pickguard?). I had ordered a cheapish one from eBay - it's not quite as yellowed as I had hoped, and I'm not quite sure which I prefer? I am a fan of Tort plates / guards - on the right bass. Just out of interest, which do you prefer?
  5. Very cool looking vintage instrument How does it compare to the modern take on this bass? It looks in great condition for a 1968 bass
  6. Fitted a Kiogon stack control loom to my Roadworn Jazz - Wow! It sounded great anyway, but now sounds even better. Just that bit more "bite" yet still very definitely "Jazz sounding". Simple fit for the loom, can't get over the difference it has made :)

      Is it solderless?

Yes, acidbass. Though I don't actually mind soldering - I'm reasonably OK at it
The beauty of Kiogon's kits, is that you can fit them very quickly. And of course, being solderless - you can make changes very easily eg. swap it onto another bass to experiment etc

  7. I was already a satisfied Kiogon customer, having previously bought wiring loom from John I bought a stack control Jazz loom from him recently. Fitted it yesterday, and boy - was I pleased! Fast build & delivery as ever from John. Top quality components and a nice, easy fit And the Jazz sounds better than I had hoped for. Top man sir - thanks very much for your help once again I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kiogon's kits for quality and ease of (solderless) fitting Buy with complete confidence BC'ers
  8. Lovely looking bass. As for the knobs - I wouldn't have thought I'd have liked strat versions on a Jazz But oddly enough, I do quite like them. It's a tad different, and does seem to have a 70's look about it 7lbs is light for a Jazz - nice
  9. This bass does look lovely - and it's in my hometown.... I mustn't go to see it, I mustn't... I already have too many! lol I don't often like a bass with matching headstock - but this one looks fab Just wondering though - what profile is the neck?
  10. This is a good suggestion by Al Krow. I once had a Fender P that had had the neck slightly trimmed down, by the previous owners luthier - it was a great job, and the neck felt lovely. Might be a good way to hang onto a present from your Mam.
  11. This one is standard tuning. Short scale strings. These were already correct length, but you may be able to cut down 30" scale strings
  12. Hi Lee. I'm not sure about the bridge on these. I've seen a few slight variations in them, whenever I come across them for sale - it could be that you're quite correct of course. It's a nice solid bridge, and allows for very smooth, fine adjustments. Yes, the colour is lovely. I bought ita few years back from a fellow local BC member, and I'd gone to his place to buy another (cheaper) 5 string at the time. However, I was instantly smitten by the colour, the look, and superb sound of this bass - so I forked out the extra dosh there & then Sadly, I now really need to downsize (due to other circumstances) and I recently got myself an Ibanez Mikro 5'er to replace this beauty
  13. This tiny 26" scale bass guitar has an amazingly BIG sound. Ideal for teaching your kids the bass guitar, or if you are a guitarist who wants to play a bit of bass, and finds the long necks a struggle. I've even taken this along as a backup! Honestly, it sounds just like the full scale thing! I've also used it with my Roland Bass Cube battery amp, in pub jams. It's super lightweight, at just a tad under 2 kilos! and it's pictured alongside a full scale Jazz for comparison These were made, I believe in the Samick factory, several years back, (happy to be corrected with that, if it's incorrect). They don't come up very often, as I was searching for one for quite some time. I don't need it any more, because I now have an Ibanez Mikro 5 string that will replace it. The beauty is, this bass also has pretty much standard spacing between the strings - so chunky-bass-player-fingered types need not worry - spacing is great. This example is in mint condition, has fairly new strings, and comes with a really nice TGI well padded gigbag (also in great condition) Collection from North Cardiff - or I can meet somewhere fairly local (I do travel about the area a bit) I don't usually like posting - but, if you want to arrange your own courier - I might be tempted as I think I have a suitable box & packing material Absolutely No trades please - I'm thinning my collection
  14. Quick update. Someone messaged me about the weight of this bass - thought I'd let you all know. It's 4.5 kg Also, I may now consider posting this (I've got a box it may fit into) - if you want to arrange your own courier..... Though I'd still prefer collection or a meet-up. I'll be near Birmingham on Tuesday - if that's any nearer for anyone?
  15. Drop me a PM if you're considering a trip to the area Simon Yes, it is something of a Pandora's box of options. But it's also a good journey to be on, discovering new instruments and seeing what's out there
  16. Hi @tom1946, How does the weight compare to the "real thing"? I had one a few years back, and it was quite a heavy beast. Neck was very chunky too - and I never quite got used to those factors. I liked the sound though This does look like a lot of bass for the money. Nice looker too
  17. I only just spotted your reason for selling this bass - and I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss This bass looks an absolute stunner, and is my favourite colour / combination, with rosewood board and Tort plate I have to say, I've not played a bad Japan Fender yet. I also prefer Jazz necks, generally speaking. But each MIJ / CIJ Precision I've played seems to have a slightly shallower neck, and I've really liked the feel and playability of this. In fact, the extra width of the neck hasn't bothered me at all - it seems more comfortable somehow. If I didn't already have my JVP, in this colour combo - I'd be sorely tempted I may even keep my eye out for an MIJ P bass of this sort of age in white, and then sell something else Can't go wrong with a Japan Fender IMHO GLWTS
  18. Yes, they were made in China - but not where the affinity series are made. They were from the same factory as the Classic vibe series and the Matt Freeman signatures. Great quality, really solid, lovely finish
  19. I'm a fair way off, in South Wales. Bit of a trek along the M4 (or train journey) But if you're visiting the area to see some family / mates, or just up for a trip to the seaside or mountains - you are very welcome to come and try my NS Design EUB. I play a few gigs where I double up on bass guitar and upright. EUB can be a godsend for some gigs. As an alternative to not playing upright at all - for me it's a no-brainer.... Get yourself an EUB. Now, getting the right one for you... That's the trick. Good luck with your search. My NS Design packs down so that it's not too much bigger than a bass guitar. It's not terribly heavy either.
  20. I had mentioned Squiers earlier - as Stub Mandrel says, there are some crackers out there, and for not much money second-hand TheGreek also mentions Sires - another example of a great second-hand buy. For me, though I've heard great things about Harley Benton's - I think the weight would be an issue Don't forget about the "Vintage" brand either. I played a fairly decent, cheap Jazz Vintage a while back - though again, it was a tad heavy You may not be intending to play any gigs at the moment - but that may change fairly quickly, if you gel well, and someone starts wanting the buzz of playing a few live events....
  21. Hi Dennis, I had a really long break from bass (25 years!) But so glad to be back again. Perhaps your case is a lesson to us all - to keep just one bass, just in case you get tempted back into playing again However, on the plus side, you can start your journey again, and with a clean slate First obvious question is that of budget, then the question of what it's all for? i.e. - what are you going to end up doing? gigs? recording? etc Because that will dictate the rig you will need. There's plenty of choice in the marketplace here on BC, both for basses and amps / rigs. And of course, plenty of people who are willing to share their thoughts, opinions & experiences of any equipment. Harley Benton basses seem to get good reviews as an excellent starter or backup instrument, or even a good gigging bass for those who don't want to take expensive basses to "dodgy" venues Keep an eye on the marketplace for a 2nd hand HB - that may save you even more dosh. Perhaps even consider a 2nd hand Squier from this forum? EDIT: There's always plenty of second-hand bargains to be had in the marketplace let us know what you opt for, and good luck with your search Oh.... and welcome back to Bass
