I should have added that trades are possible but only for a P ish bass. I've got too many jazz basses and only realised that I have no P in the armoury. A vintage Fender P would be perfect (apart from the nut width which is never perfect in a vintage P). Up for sale is my 2015 Rickenbacker 4004 Laredo in Jetglo with chrome hardware. It’s had the controls changed professionally to volume / volume / tone with push / pull coil splitting. Pots are also 500k instead of 330k so it means that the bass is opened up tonally. The normal 4004s sound a bit dull but this sounds great with blendable pickups and a choice to run as humbuckers or single coils for that more vintage Rick tone. The original 3 way switch, volume and tone pots and Jack are included in case you’d want to send it back to stock (not sure why you would as it sounds great now). Condition is brilliant, no nicks, dings or scratches. Strung with new 45-105 D’Addario nickel strings it plays great too. Comes with case tags and original case. Can be viewed on the Wirral, can deliver within 50 miles or so or can post with UPS for about £50 in the UK. Thanks for looking.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this issue on a 4001 or 4003. Mine is a 1980 Jetglo 4001 and, despite fitting new strings (D’Addario super steels) the open E is always tonally damped compared to my other basses. My fenders always sound tight, crisp and zippy whereas the Rick always sounds like the E is muted which it can’t be as I’ve swapped the bridge for a Hipshot brass. I had wondered whether the brass bridge was causing it, or the nut which looks original. Id read that other people have the same hole in the bottom end on a vintage Rick but just hoping that the genii on here are able to point me in the right direction to a possible solution.... Cheers.

It's not cheap but it sure is nice....

I did say it wasn't cheap.....but how much extra would a Fender high mass Bridge have been? £20. No brainer for what they intend to be high end bass really. -

I was thinking that it was a proper quilt maple top but looking at the pics it may be a stick-on top.... -

Just the thing for that 'high end project'

£299.99? Surely the decimal place is in the wrong place? -
This may be my favourite one yet from you know who

Such neat and precise work. The back of the headstock is a work of art the way those tuners line up so perfectly..... -
I was after a straight sale but as there's a lot of basses sticking at the mo, I would take a part trade with cash my way. If there was a Flea jazz or any Jap P or J 4 string then I may be interested. Up for sale is my near mint USA Fender Flea Jazz. Made in 2019 and in limited numbers, the Flea USA is a future collectors item. It has a satin pink finish and a satin lacquered neck making it a real smooth player. Equipped with a single custom humbucker & Aguilar OBP-1 2 band active preamp it sounds brilliant. It also has a custom profile neck 1.5" at the nut but with 12" to 16" profile as you go further up the board. Apparently makes those snazzy "Fleaesque" soloing lines easier. Apparently. Condition wise it has one minor chip on the rear but very minor and weighs in at 3.8kgs. I'm on the Wirral so it can be viewed, played or collected from there or I can deliver within 50 miles or so. Other than that UPS insured shipping would be around £50. Here's some spec blurb; Satin finish in shell pink with matching headstock alder body Fivefold screwed neck made of maple with standing annual rings (Quartersawn Maple) "C" neck profile Maple fingerboard with 12" to 16" compound radius (305 mm to 403 mm) A Fender Custom Humbucker Active Aguilar OBP-1 2-band tone control with 18 Volt power supply Fender 4-Saddle HiMass Bridge Fender Lightweight Vintage Machine Heads

Any pitfalls for a beginner putting together a Bass?
vinorange replied to SumOne's topic in Build Diaries
If you’re feeling brave enough and fancy trying a refinish again then I’d recommend stripping back to the wood, doing the grain fill again and then using all the same paint for all of the finishing. I use Northwest guitars nitro and it’s brilliant. It’s a laborious process to get a really good finish but start with nitro primer, leave to dry and then sand flat with wet / dry 800 or so. Once flat then use around 3 tins of aerosol for a good deep finish which can be polished flat. You need to spray 8 to 10 thin coats and leave 20 mins between each coat. Then it’s off somewhere warmish to dry for 2 weeks. I use kovax 1500 scratch free polishing paper to flat the finish down. If you shine UV light onto the body you know when you’re ready to polish when there are no little shiny spots left (the natural orange peel finish of an aerosol needs a lot of flatting but a couple of hours will see the last shiny spot disappear). Then use Meguires cut and polish and you will not believe how pro a finish you can get. A lot of those tips came from Jon Shuker and he should know...... If you fancy a go and get stuck anywhere I’d be happy to reply to any PMs as you go as I’ve refinished around 20 basses now and all came out very close to factory (accepting that they were nitro and not poly). -

Sorry. After I realised how rare they are I've decided to oggle at it some more on the guitar stand. Up for sale is my now discontinued 2019 USA Fender Flea Jazz in the more desirable shell pink with G&G hard case. It's in fantastic condition except one pin prick of missing finish on the rear - an easy touch up but it didn't bother me. It's equipped with a single hot output Fender humbucker pickup, high mass Fender bridge and Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp giving it, to my ears, a smoother tone than a Stingray. The neck is gorgeous; a satin finished jazz shaped neck but with a compound radius, being 12" at the lower end and 16" at the dusty end. It's a very playable neck - it begs to be played. The body is alder and the bass weighs in at a touch over 4kg. All in all its a gorgeous bass and really needs to go to someone who'll play it rather than oggle at it on the guitar stand. I'm on the Wirral and it can be trialled here or I can deliver / meet up within 50 miles or so and will obviously post it. Preferably no trades. Thanks for looking.

Up for grabs is this Eden heavy duty cover for the Eden Metro 2x10 combo (the best combo ever made incidentally). Unfortunately for me the cover is more heavy duty than the Metro and it died not too long ago. Even the magician that is Roland Lumby couldn't save it so the cover is available. Will wrap it up and post no problem. Think these were quite pricey when available.....

In case anyone is pondering on this, they are really great modelling amps. I have one and it has some great stock sounds and another 30 under editable patches and you can dial into the fender tone app and download artist patches too. Very good practice amp that is loud enough to be giggable too. GLTWS
