  1. Had you noticed that the frets are softer steel at all? Mine didn't take a lot of filing to crown them and that did worry me a little as the frets seemed soft. Having said that it's hardly going on a world tour with 6 shows a week...
  2. I’m not sure if this counts as a build (well it most probably doesn’t) but it’s a creation I’ve been hankering after for a while. I have an orange Shuker jazz with reverse headstock, maple neck with block inlays and I wondered if I could create its P bass versioned cousin. I acquired a Mex P body in Capri orange, had a Dimarzio split P pickup, had a black badass bridge, had the pots needed so just bought some hipshot lyte tuners, a black scratch plate and was about to buy an American jazz neck when I decided to challenge myself. Having seen various threads on the merits of Chinese necks, I took a real gamble on a maple neck with black block inlays (real ones) for £59. The challenge to me was “how good can I make a crappy neck”. It came with roller coaster frets but the board was straight and the truss worked both ways so, as expected, it was out with the tools. I levelled the frets, taking a lot off 7 and 9 but did get them level. I crowned and polished the frets and took the sharp ends off and 3 hours later fitted it. It wasn’t pre-drilled and the nut had split so I treated it to a graphtec nut I had too. So far I'm really pleased with the neck. The parts are what they are and exactly what I was expecting but the neck is actually pretty good - up there with the stable and comfortable necks I've played on much more expensive basses. It's not my Shuker for sure but it's not £1000 off it which is the price difference. Body £200, neck £59, pickups value £75, badass bridge £50, tuners £80, other bits £20. What I have is an orange P with a hot pickup and a jazz width neck with block inlays that looks pretty good and plays very nicely. I’m really surprised that the neck adjusted to flat and held normal gauge strings but it has turned out really well. Just wondered whether others had experimented with the virtues of Chinese necks with good or bad results. Anyway, orange (or maybe tangerine) bass No 2 pics attached..... Its big Shuker shaped brother is in the last pic. Not quite the same, perhaps a slightly sun faded anaemic version but it's along the same lines.....
  3. Up for sale (after acquiring a barefaced 2x12 cab) is my Laney Nexus 4x10 bass cab loaded with 4 x 200w Celestion neodymium drivers. 8 ohms, 27kg, custom cover and in great condition with no marks on the tolex and but a few scuffs on the bottom of the cover (but that’s what it’s there for). No farts, rattles or squeaks present when playing (apart from my walls) so all is good with the cab. I also have the Nexus all tube up for sale too if anyone fancies the full rig. Am based on the Wirral but can ship (at buyers expense), meet up or deliver within a reasonable distance (50 miles or so). Thanks for looking. Here’s what Andersons say: Nexus cabinets are loaded with cutting edge Celestion Neodymium drivers, which use ultra powerful magnet material in order to allow the mass of the magnet to be reduced without compromising the performance of the driver. Result: same great performance but with a greatly reduced cabinet weight which makes life on the road with a Nexus stack much more manageable. SUPER LIGHT NEO DRIVERS The NX410 is fitted with the exceptionally impressive 10” Celestion Neodymium which gives amazing performance which reducing the weight of the cabinet dramatically. A mighty 800 -watts power handling can be accessed via Neutrik combination sockets that accept Speakon or ¼-inch jack cables mounted on the rear panel. SPECIFICATION Baffle: Marine Grade Plywood Cabinet Design: Marine Grade plywood cabinet with large grip handles, and kick proof metal grille Castors: No Packed Dimensions (HxWxD mm): 813 x 766 x 526 Drivers: 4x 10" Custom Celestion Neodymium Frequency Response: 50Hz to 15KHz Impedance: 8 ohms Inputs: 2x Speakon/Jack combi socket Kick Proof Metal Grill: Yes Ports: Front Power: 800 Watts (8 ohms) Sensitivity: 100dB @ 1 watt / 1 metre Weight: 34.9 Kg Packed, 27.5 Kg Unit Unit Dims - for int. case (HxWxD mm) 643 x 643 x 403
  4. Up for sale is near immaculate my white passive Shuker P / J bass with contrasting black pickguard and black headstock. It is equipped with Bartolini pickups, passive vol / vol / tone and Hipshot light tuners with a bass extender on the E. The only change I made was to put a Hipshot Kickass bridge on as I prefer them to Badass. It’s fitted with a brass nut, width at the nut being 42mm and it weighs in at 4.1kg. Neck profile is 22mm at the first position marker. The neck is also a satin finish so lovely and smooth to play. It also has Schaller locking strap buttons and I should have some locks to go with it somewhere..... It has one paint chip adjacent to the neck pocket which has been filled with white nitro. It could disappear with a few more drops of white and some flatting. There are no other marks on it. I contacted Jon about the bass and he said it was made as a one off commission for a French client and was based on his JJ Burnel signature P bass so this is a one off (see link to the specs https://shukerguitars.co.uk/basses/j-j-burnel-signature-bass/). It plays really well, as you’d expect from Jon, and is tonally diverse thanks to the pickups and is quite unusual with the white body with contrasting black hardware / headstock face. Its a lovely bass and I’m loathe to get rid of a Shuker as they are elite basses but the nut width just isn’t for me and I always defer to a different bass (my Shuker orange jazz) so it needs to go to another home. Comes in a Shuker custom case so it can be posted in the UK for around £35. Can go European for £50. Can be tried on the Wirral, I can meet up or deliver within a reasonable distance. Straight sale sought really so no trades. Thanks for looking.
  5. Up for sale due to a drastic change of direction is my recently acquired and immaculate Laney Nexus all tube 400w head with custom fitted Laney protective cover. This head is absolutely amazing and delivers a huge 400 proper big boy watts by virtue of the 8 KT88 output valves. It basically is the same as the MESA 400 head but has more shaping options and is hand made in the UK. In fact It has so many tone shaping options that you can’t fail but dial in your favourite tone. You can use the tube preamp, the FET preamp or a mix of both. It powers 2, 4 or 8 ohm so your cab set up can be flexed. It has 6 band eq, parametric mid controls, tube gain / level for grind / warmth control, FET preamp level control, bass / treble, presence, compression and deep controls. It has input pad for passive / active basses and standby switch completes the front panel. On the rear are the DI out and effects loop. It also is foot switch controllable with the controls being preamp, compressor, para mid and graphic on / off selection. Its in perfect working order with no issues and I think probably under used. I’m based on the Wirral but can deliver or meet up within a reasonable distance (try me as to how far reasonable is). Thanks for looking. Heres some blurb from Laney: The NEXUS-TUBE delivers 400W tube power, coupled with FET and TUBE preamp stages and comprehensive tone shaping it sets the benchmark for bass amps. No less than 8 x KT88 tubes and two oversized toroidal transformers sit in the engine room of the impressive power stage. The high-tech preamp is packed with tonal options: Select and blend both FET and TUBE input paths; Switch in Parametric and/or Graphic Mid shaping; Dial in studio quality compression from a single control. Whether you need clean, fast attack or valve-soaked warmth it is all at your fingertips.
  6. Luca bought an Aguilar hot pickup from me. We had some trouble with Italian customs but Luca was the perfect gent throughout. We both did what we could to get it through customs and all worked out well in the end. Top guy. Thanks
  7. Would being owned by Alan Davey increase or decrease its worth? Just asking...nothing inferred......
  8. Bought a couple of Eminence 10" drivers from Pete. Easy transaction, great condition drivers and well packed. Thanks Pete.
  9. Really he should stop cocking up basses and try redecorating. The room where the bass is pictured has just turned my stomach slightly....
  10. I’m so oar inspired that I’ve decided to copy his work and make a bass from this excellent piece of timber...
  11. That filled in bass pickup rout is barely noticeable....
  12. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
  13. It's only a lovely lightweight 20kg. The laney beneath it on the pics is a back breaker....
  14. So far as I know, if you have two 8 ohm cabs they should be daisy chained together. Most cabs have a provision to daisy chain in parallel and when done (in parallel which is important) that presents 4 ohms to the head. So two 8 ohm cabs daisy chained together (speakon from one cab to another) would have a combined impedance of 4 ohms and then the amp would be happy (when set at 4 ohms). It would also be happy if you ran one 8 ohm cab and set it at 8 ohms. That may be a garbled answer............
  15. Up For sale is my Eden E300T 300 watt all tube bass head in great condition. Manual states 300 watts RMS but there is some debate as to whether its around 240 watts but who cares. These are valve big boy watts and 240 of them are perfectly capable of flapping your flares. Oh yeah and it sounds really nice too. I bought it because I had moved to passive basses and wanted a bit of controllable grit which this does nicely via the tube over drive control. It has Gain, Over Drive Boost, Bass, Mid, Mid Shift, Treble and Volume controls and sounds great. It weighs in at only 20kg so it's way lighter than many similar output tube heads. Size wise it's 56cm wide, 31cm deep and 25cm high. Here's some info from the interweb; 320 watts RMS, 740 watts peak from six KT88 power tubes, 3 band EQ with mid shift switch between 550 hz and 2.2khz, foot-switchable true high gain overdrive selector, -10db pad, gain and master volumes round. Effects loop, XLR balanced out, tuner out, Speakon and 1/4" speaker outs, 4 or 8 ohm operation. This also has rear mounted bias points meaning you don't have to pay a tech to bias when you change tubes. Six individual bias points means you don't also need to replace all six tubes, when only one dies. Just pop in a new one, and bias it in! It sounds great but I also have a Laney Nexus all tube head (which I'd wanted for ages) so something has to give and unfortunately it's the Eden. I think it was serviced around 18 months ago with the previous owner. Based on the Wirral where it can be tested / trialled or I can drive within 50 miles or so to deliver or meet up. Thanks for looking.
  16. I feel a little black and blue.... Thats an incredible 1980 4001 and a 2005 CotY Blue Boy 4003.
  17. Up for sale is my Aguilar AG 4P-Hot hot output Aguilar precision bass pickup. Measured at 17.4kOhm which is quite feisty! I haven't fitted them as they were a P bass which I ended up selling. I was looking for a matching AG-4J-Hot so I could use the P pup in my Shuker P/J but have given up after a fruitless search. Fully working but clearly used, these do not have the Aguilar stamp on the pickup cover but do have the stamp on the underside as pictured. This pickup is £140 new so £60 posted to the UK mainland. Some blurb from on t'internet; With their larger, 6MM magnets and over-wound design, these pickups have a hotter output that loves to push the input of your amplifier with a tone that is big and loud with thundering lows. Despite their sonic onslaught, the AG 4P-HOT will retain all the dynamics of your playing style. Dig in with a pick (or your fingers!) and all of the grit and nuance of your attack comes through without losing the midrange. Dimensions Length = 2.230"(56.6mm) Width = 1.100"(27.9mm) Wire: 42 gauge heavy Formvar wire Magnets: 6mm Alnico V Leads: Single conductor, cloth-covered
  18. Up for sale are 2 x 12 inch 8 ohm celestion Green Label BN12-300X speakers in fitted but unused condition (as they were fitted and then removed!) No faults or issues just almost brand new 12" lightweight drivers in original boxes and outer packaging. I can't find many new in stock but they were at £108 each with Lean Business when in stock so grab a bargain at £90 posted for both. Specs; Nominal diameter 12", 305mm Power Rating 300w Nominal impedance 8ohm Sensitivity 95dB Chassis type Pressed Steel Voice coil diameter 2.5" Magnet type Neodymium Frequency Range 40Hz-3000Hz Resonance freq.40Hz Unit Weight 4.4lb, 2.0kg I can't find them on Celestion's website so assume they're discontinued but this is what Lean Business say; Celestion BN speakers provide the punchy bottom end that will support the rest of the band while carry forward your individual expression. Celestion's Green Label speakers are primed for high-powered rock performances, where a full-bodied, warm, defined tone is essential. Not every player wants a super-clean, high-fidelity bass sound. Characterised by an extended low end and greater linear excursion, the latest Celestion Green Label BN12-300x NEO 12" bass guitar speakers push out every note with a rich, warm tone and a powerful low-end thump! More punch and volume, with only half the weight of a standard magnet BL12-300.
  19. Look beyond the wonky Z to the faital Pro neo drivers. Worth over the BIN process on their own...
  20. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lightweight-2x10-500W-Bass-Cab-by-Zoot-with-700W-Neo-Speakers-/294513098703?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Someone should snap this up quick....
  21. Up for sale is my black badass II bridge. 4 string, 5 hole fender fitment. Great condition and unusual to see them in black. Price slash to £50 posted to mainland UK.
  22. Up for sale is this Hipshot A style bridge that j found lingering in my parts drawer. Came off a Shuker jazz in favour of a hipshot kickass bridge (which I'm not totally sure sounded better tbh) £50 posted.
