  1. Whilst having a bit of amp trouble, the drummer in our band lent me his Roost SR 150 all tube guitar head. He said to give it a go and if I didn't want it, could I sell it on his behalf. Now I don't know where to start with guitar gear but understand that these Roost amps were used as bass amps too back in the day. As I understand it, the amp is modelled on the Hiwatt / Sound City amps. It's a 150w non reverb version, point to point wired which dates it as early 70s as later amps used PCBs. Weighing in at a mighty 35kg, it has 6 EL34 output valves. I had it hooked up to my bass cab and it was a rather loud 150w. I had it on 2 and it was flapping my trousers. Great tone also but too heavy for my ageing back so I'm putting it up for sale BUT don't really know a true value. I've said £600 or offers so please treat that subjectively. Any offers would need to be passed by our drummer. In the case of anything vintage it's only worth what someone will pay! I'm in Cheshire. It can be tried. I can deliver or meet up within a reasonable distance of Cheshire.
  2. I only got the TF amp 2 weeks back so the planet waves cable isn't responsible for stretching the input socket. However I've ordered a couple of right angle neutrik 1/4"s so that if in any doubt gaffa tape will hole the jack ion at the right angle. I may of course be flapping about nothing now as once sitting it's Gator rack then it may be more immune to vibrations. The planet waves jacks are slightly fatter btw. That may mean my guitar jacks are now a bit floppy as I've certainly had them a while. New cables may be the answer. Not sure why I need the isolation switch now anyway....................
  3. On further examination the planet waves jack is slightly shorter and slightly fatter than my others and they seem to seat home in the socket better. I think I'll buy a couple of neutrik jacks and chop the planet waves jack off my cable at the amp end (I use the isolation switch at the guitar end). The socket is soldered to the underside of a PCB which contains all front panel controls so it is not a 5 minute job. The bottom of the chassis won't release to reveal the underside of the PCB as all the internal hardware is mounted on it so a new input socket will be last resort. I wonder whether the amp being in a rack case may help as it won't be vibrating so much..........
  4. I'll give that a go but having just tested different cables my older ones stay in the socket a little better than the planet wave cables. It's the vibration that spits the cable out so I'm not sure tying through the cab handle would do it. Gaffa tape may do it. Just a pity you can't get something that goes behind the socket nut and loops over your jack - that would do the job.
  5. It only spits the cable out due to vibrations from the cab however it wasn't in a rack case on its first outing and I've remedied that. I can't do anything with the socket as it's not the kind where the contact can be bent - it's a surface mount pcb type. I've realised after your post TimR that someone told me that planet waves cables are slightly bigger. Damn I love those cables but not as much as I love my cable staying in my amp so a cable swap it will be. I did wonder if there was anything on the market to lock the cable in. I know there are neutrik locking sockrts but as mine is pcb mount then that's out of the question. Unless I take it in to a tech of course.....
  6. I once again turn to my fellow bassists in the hope for a fix. I changed my set up to a wonderful thunderfunk 750a and s zoot 410 cab. It's a perfect set up for me BUT during its first outing the amp spat the cable jack out 4 times. I temp cured it by trapping the cable under the amp. I use planet waves cables and it's the cab vibrations that wobble the cable out - not me moving the cable in any way. The input jack is soldered to a circuit board. Is there a way of locking the jack in place? Other than gaffa tape. Or maybe that's the cure...... Any tips would be appreciated.
  7. Bought a 410 zoot neo cab from Matt and I was in a hurry. Matt went to great lengths to get the cab to me before my gig and I can't thank Matt enough coz it's also in superb condition and sounds gtrat.
  8. Many thanks to Matt (aka neepheid) for sending out the Zoot cab so quickly.
  9. Ah maybe mine has the upgrade as it goes down to 2 ohms? Unless I want to remove somebody's spleen on the dance floor by the power of bass loveliness then I'm not going to need 2 ohms. I will email Dave though.
  10. Just to put this post to bed, I played through my new Zoot 410 1200w neo cab with my new Thunderfunk 750a head last night at a corporate party last night and it was lovely. Clarity through the octaves and plenty of thump. And boy is that Zoot light. Fantastic set up and so glad I heeded the advice of my fellow bass playing community. Sometimes you just need a bit of clear thinking and to go back to basics to help you out of a hole. Thanks to all.
  11. Hi. Yep you can use one output channel and forget the crossover. That's how I used it and it works perfectly. The power amp would then work in either bridged mono or just use one side of a stereo amp. Ta.
  12. Price drop to generate interest. Got my zoot 410 so this is definitely surplus.
  13. Price edited to £195. I will deliver within 50 miles radius of Cheshire.
  14. Just stick a lovely power amp with it (not an Ecler as I did).............................
  15. No. I was being sarcastic that's why I added 33 kg in brackets.
  16. Ashdown ABM 1 x 15 bass cab. This is the higher rated 500 watt driver running at 8 ohms. The cab is in great condition and clearly hasn't been gigged much. It weighs on at 33kg and is 24" wide, 26" wide, 17" deep. Rear ported. Plenty of bass from a great cab. Up for grabs as I've reverted to my default single 4 x 10 cab. It's in Cheshire. Can be trialled, can be delivered within 50 miles of northwich or so or can be courier delivered but that would be about £30.
  17. Up for grabs is my Eden WP100 navigator preamp. Highly versatile preamp with all the tone shaping you could wish for. Has blendable input tube, studio quality compressor with threshold / ratio, 5 band semi parametric eq, enhance control, foots witch with boost control / enhance / tuner / compressor bypass, aux in / headphones out / di out with level control, crossover controls for a biamp set up, effects send / return, ground lift. I got this only a month ago as I love the eden tone but their power sections can be a bit tricky. Ive now reverted to a head / single cab set up and havr given up on the power amp set up. I realised that I'm not competent enough to warrant a pre / power / 2 cab biamp set up. Based in Cheshire. Can be tested. I can deliver within a readonable radius of northwich or ill ship it anywhere. It still has the original box, packaging, manual and leads and foot switch (still in its wrapping) .I've only used it a handful of times. I should add that this is made in China but is the same as the US made WP100.
  18. I've tried mike at zoot. He's got no drivers and no crossovers for my purple chilli 410. I have the thunderfunk. I can see why it has its name. Very nice..... Zoot 410 4 ohm 1200w neo cab on its way from a fellow basschatter so that should be me sorted. Now to part company with an eden navigator preamp, ashdown abm 115 500w, ecler lpa16000 (boo hiss I hear from the back row), a rack case and a purple chili 8 ohm 410 cab with 2 knackered drivers and scruffy (at best) tolex. Thanks for help straightening myself out.
  19. I got myself in a right pickle but through the power of combined minds and advice now have a plan; sell it all and start again but maybe keep a few bits as spares..... Great advice
  20. That too is another good point. Do you do counselling?
