I must admit although I loved their album, I never really listened to the bass. Listening to a youtube video of the bass of "What I am" and it is a lovely bassline. If only I still had a fretless, I would learn that!

Why not? You are training your ear, not your voice.

For many years I wouldn't try an instrument in most shops because of this sort of attitude. Luckily most of those shops died a death as they deserved to, and the ones with good customer service or something really special remained. When I am buying stuff I prioritise by customer service. Cost matters obviously, but if there isn't a huge difference, customer service wins.

That was in no doubt anywhere, so not sure of your point. Where did I say that I wanted or expected a reply now? I want a reply at some point. And as mentioned, I don't pick up the phone. If the only way of doing business is via the phone well, then fine, its not like any of this stuff is essential. I probably don't need it anyway.

4 leds would have probably been enough positioned just right.

If someone puts up a NBD for say, a jazz bass, then woop - its a jazz bass in whatever colour with whatever colour pickgaurd. It isn't going to get any comments, as it is like coming home with a mondeo - oh you got a new bass. There isn't really a question there. This is different. Also, this isn't people commenting on a NBD post, this is people commenting on "The most stunning bass ever" post, which whatever it was, would get similar comments.

These things are personal. I never ring, can't stand using the phone, I prefer to get things down on email. if they don't want people to email they shouldn't give out an email address. Obviously its up to them how they do business.

Yamaha numbers never made any sense to me! I assumed a 4 digit number would be a higher level than a 3 digit number - probably because that is the ibanez way. I suppose there is no real logic with numbers.

As I said, I wasn't keen on the shape, but regardless of whether you like the shape or materials, noone is going to dispute the craftsmanship. The uk is really lucky that we have so many world class luthiers , especially now that it is not so easy to get stuff from anywhere else!

Love the wood and burl (and resin). Not a shape I get on with, but I am sure it is going to be fantastic, and also very thoughtful of him to put a spare string on the side in case one breaks!

Fair cop, I can agree with that, they do good stuff. Unfortunately the worst band I have ever seen was local to here, and I doubt (hope) they were seen by many people. What made it worse was that they were so happy doing it. Not much of a sharing experience then. Still a better song than SoS by Disturbed.

Not really my argument but if you really wanted to prove this point ^ ^ this does it really well. I presume that statement is intentional trolling as there is no way any reasonable person could read 'I only ever play my basses acoustically' from 'I play it acoustically before plugging in'

I have never had trouble finding amazing 4 or 5 strings. Obviously you are going to get a lot of cheap 'copy of a p, copy of a j' basses, there are no definitive 5 strings to just clone, so you have to think about it more.

I don't believe there are any songs that couldn't be improved on, or at least interpreted differently Luckily I didn't see the video before hearing it, and also I have no problem with disturbed, who have done some great songs (I have even done covers, maybe they hate mine?) Thats where I am. THe video can neither add or take away.

Same here - that test should have been "Which one makes you want to punch the singer most". Pretty much like gigging really.

I can give it a try later on (it is behind me but not connected to anything, and I dont' have a spare pre up here), but a much simpler answer would be to drop a line to ashdown and ask them if that is the correct behaviour. They have always been pretty helpful and fast at responding.

Not something I have ever tried, I wasn't aware that GuitarLab was available for the iPad. I can't seem to find it on my iPad. If it is available then yes it would probably work, if not then no.

Funnily enough, with the lockdown, my pedals get much less attention - they are out in my gig equipment area and I havn't seen them in ages. Indoors all I have is a B3n which I am currently using (and frankly, not that into), an aliexpress looper (again, haven't used much), a muslady mutli effects (which I have used on the guitar), and the effects on the spark (which I have used a lot more but sadly don't have an octaver).

I think it takes every ounce of passion out of that song and makes it bland and lifeless. Still, if people like it, people like it.
