  1. Just for fun and cos I had a couple of cork boards and some army green spray paint left...
  2. What they said - forget amps, especially if you're not going to be spending loads of money on mics. Everything i record 'properly' goes DI via a POD tube pre-amp sim, and for the video stuff i do its recently been a Zoom B3n right into the audio interface but actually the best results come with a Behringer BDI 121 what they said up there! This is for metal but its still got some good tips:
  3. Thanks! They were these: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0774NLQWR I saw a thing on youtube about the solid sort and why you shouldn't but i figure they're not going to be moving much..
  4. So just to check, playing with a pick and the bass at knee level while making devil horns with my left hand is ok?
  5. Yay! It was fun too... I just thought the anti slip stuff looked cool... illI'll find another use for it. And I bought the Velcro first but I've found it faffy before and went with the tape option instead...
  6. Job done!! Didn't use the anti slip pad or the Velcro, just stuck the pedals down with heavy duty double sided tape...
  7. Hahaha! It's the best lit workspace in my flat... and obvs also doesn't matter if I get glue or paint or whatever on it... anyway! Part 2: top and bottom mock-up:
  8. I was watching a 'rig rundown' on youtube and someone had a chopping board that they've stuck velcro on.. I plan on going to wilco at the weekend for a mini chopping board, some stick on feet and possibly some cool coloured spray paint.. I'll do a build diary
  9. I was a small child when Proper Punk tm kicked off... But it definitely stirred up the pop music i would listen to in the 80s - I totally agree that it brought in the idea of 'you don't have to start playing at 12 and spend 10 years in your bedroom learning stairway'. Like for instance, i think synth pop wouldn't have happened as synths were only 'proper' instruments if you dressed up as a wizard while playing them. Guns n Roses considered themselves punk. Punk meant that if Blondie felt like doing disco they could. Punk filtered down to the Jesus and Mary chain saying 'a guitar is like a chisel' which got me playing, when everyone else who 'knew about proper music' told me not to bother because i'd previously broken all the fingers on my left hand, so i'd never be able to play like Eddie Van Halen. Grunge was punk. Acid house was punk. Arguable skiffle was punk, even Glenn Miller was punk...
  10. Ok, so anyone want to buy a zoom b3n? with my little warwick bc15.1 amp what I like, this seems to be all I need..! I just need an actual board, and I have an idea for that...!
  11. Ooh yeah, I like them!
  12. I think i'm going to do an instagram vid with my bass strap as long as it will go, all on the low E and with a pick... And distortion..
  13. Ok, i may have technically hopped off the wagon a bit... I bought an extension 'speaker on a stick' for my active 'speaker on a stick' i use at home for practicing and videos. BUT i am going to sell my HBW80 Bass amp as its too big and loud for my living room and giggage is mostly DI anyway. So that doesn't count cos its technically replacing. And i should get more money for the amp then a spent on the speaker. So its actually saving, really...
  14. I thought it was fab! Even the bit where they shoe-horned in the Most Influential Band Ever That Everyone Likes Except me* went 'So P*** McFrogchorus had been listening to soul records and decided instead of nicking ideas off of Chuck Berry he'd nick them off Motown instead...' Paraphrasing obvs.. Mr Rascal was a great addition also. I'm disappointed they left out Meghan Trainor though..
  15. I guess my point is/was completely made by the video above (and yes i like that song) - nearly all of the bass part is played as, y'know, notes! Except for the bit where he starts flapping at his bass like its got a wasp on it. I should add i was initially attracted to the bass when i realised most of the fuzzed out droney roar that i loved from the Jesus and Mary Chain was the bass, not the guitar. Whose first bassist famously said when asked in an interview about why his bass guitar only had two strings replied: “That’s the two I use. I mean, what’s the flipping point in spending money on another two? It’s like, two is enough. It’s adequate. Anybody can play this bass." I wouldn;t go that far but i must admit, last time i changed strings i did wonder if there was any point in changing the G as i hardly touch it...
  16. Check my Avatar - i'm very pro the 'being a girl' thing.. Jeez though, how many flipping strings?! OMG its headless too isn't it?!
  17. I only hate the ubiquitousness (see any threads where i've let my feelings about the b***les be known...) - if i'm playing the intro to Panic Station by Muse, my thumb might make an appearance but its when i see something pop up on my instagram like: What is the actual point? It sounds like a kid banging on a wire fence...!
  18. Thats not exactly what i meant, but thank you anyway...
  19. Yes!!! Its not clever to make a bass sound like a ukulele!! Its not even clever to make a ukulele sound like a ukulele!!
  20. To be fair though, i quite like the Judith Hill thing..
  21. Its like 'shredding' in guitar demos... Nobody does that anymore, its the pulling wheelies of playing an instrument..! The sole purpose of it is to show that you can... I like Scott Devine too - but he's got a real habit of playing jazzy sounding licks with harmonics at the moment.. And on that really ugly brown bass with the centre stripe. That he wears stuck up his nose.. I may be in an intolerant mood though..
