1. God I am worried now!!! My band plays two of those in our set - Mercy,Mercy,Mercy and Watermelon Man. Mind you the Mercy is done in the Morrissey Mullen style ie very quick and with some rip roaring keys and sax solos and Watermelon Man is done in the Headhunters style which has a real groove and a dirty funk bass sound courtesy of my EBS Bass IQ!!! If they were in the standard jazz style then yes I think they might be classed as PAP. What about Nature Boy?
Prompted by responses to the guy who is gooing to play jazz at the Jazz Cafe..... Some jazz standards are just sickeningly over played and almost always suck. OK, I accept that it is still possible to do something creative with them if you are Iain Ballamy but, in the main, these 'evergreens' keep appearing at jam sessions etc being played badly by people that can't play. I have heard (and played) them all a million times but now refuse to play them (really, I do). Its the jazz equivalent of 'James Galway plays The Beatles'. So I am starting a campaign to have them banned. The offending tunes are: Fever Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Canteloupe Island Watermelon Man Summertime Mac The Knife Tenor Madness Please feel free to add any jazz standards you consider banal, boring or just bad. I get the last say
2. Am I to assume that no-one on this forum is interested in this bass at £750. Tell me guys do you all think that this is expensive? Sure as hell seems a more than fair price to me for a hand built bass with a thru neck! Perhaps cash is just tight at the moment? Some feedback on this would be great! Mark
Guys, Had this on Ebay and been offered £700 for her - if any of you guys would like her then the first one to offer £750 can have her as it saves me the Ebay fees if I sell her through the forum. Also feel happier that one of you guys will appreciate the bargain more than an Ebay bod!! You all know that this is an absolute bargain. Pains me to sell at this kind of price but market forces obviously dictate. PM me if you are interested and she can be yours. Cheers Mark
5. Just got an EBS Multi Comp and would strongly recommend it - excellent compressor. Mark
So, we got three there - BOSS CS-1, MXR Dynacomp and Line6 Vetta.. Which one do ya prefer, guys? I'm looking after a bit of compression, but dunno what's really worth choosing, so, waitin' for opinions..
6. Thanks - sorry about that. Monday morning and all!!! Mark
I moved it earlier, sorry for any confusion!
7. Sorry - does anyone know how to move it??!!!! Mark
wrong forum buddy
8. Come on guys this is a fantastic bass - as I have said I will look at offers on this one. Cheers Mark
Weekend BUMP - May have to consider offers on this one! PM me if interested. Mark
9. Not getting on too well with this pedal - there is nothing wrong with it and you can get some really funky 70's sounds from it but I have realised that the sound that I really want I can already get from my EBS pedal so this one is just not going to get used! It is a great sounding pedal and if you look at the comments on this forum you will see that it is about as close as you can get to a Mutron III without having to shell out £300 +!!! Looking for £80 for the pedal - it is in perfect condition. Cheers Mark
 10. Weekend BUMP - May have to consider offers on this one! PM me if interested. Mark
 11. £2k - I would be dead chuffed to sell at that price! Yes still dreaming about that amount! Mark
I've got one of these too, same year. Guy who did some work on the frets for me recently was so impressed he was asking how much they went for now. "About two grand?" was his estimate. Actually I don't think I'd take two grand for mine.
12. Never a more true word said my friend! Thanks Mark
I know I'm biased but these older Thumbs really are stunning basses. Great wood and superb build quality and they really growl! I particularly like the figuring on that body. All the best with the sale. Peter
13. Looking to move on my Warwick Thumb bass after 15 happy years together! Have to sell to fund my new custom built bass and will be very sorry to see her go as she has been a trusty and reliable bass for a long.long time. There are some signs of wear on the bass but nothing out of the ordinary for a guitar that is 17 years old. There is some "thumb rash" above the bridge pick up and a couple of scratches around the jack socket and cut away to the neck. However I repeat that these are minor and cannot be seen unless you look really, really close! Please note that as I am funding a new bass I am not open to any trades for this one. If you want more info or pics then please PM me. Oh yes price!! Looking for around £1k which I think is a fair price. Not going to give her away! Thanks Mark
 14. Higgie, Nice one. That sound for Deeper Underground is spot on - awesome! How much does the P&C cost? Cheers Mark
Hi mate, a pedal I had cool results from - especially for the Zender stuff - is the Crowther Prunes and Custard. Here's a sample I recorded a while ago running it through the AF-9 to try and cop the "Sir Psycho" tone: Sir Psycho Sexy And here's one with the P+C by itself, trying to emulate the synth tone on Deeper Underground by Jamiroquai: Deeper Underground As to the EBS vs the Mutron, I've only played with the EBS briefly, but it does have some rather cool filter sounds. It's a different beast to the Mutron though. The Mutron is the classic old school funky filter. I wouldn't use anything else now!
15. Higgie, Not being in to fuzz much can you recommend a pedal that may give that sound? I am guessing some sort of overdrive or similar? I took on board your point about the AF9 and the Mutron from a post you made before so really want to try and get the best from this pedal! How do you rate the EBS Bass IQ against the Mu-tron? Mark
Well you definitely won't be getting the Sir Psycho Sexy sound without running some kind of dirt into the filter. The same goes for the Zender stuff. As a stand alone filter I absolutely love the AF-9. If I didn't have a Mutron III it would be the AF-9 sitting on my board. Try running some kind of fuzz into it!
16. Just bought a Maxon AF9 after looking out for one for a while. I understood that this is the closest thing that you can get to Mu-Tron III without having to shell out £300 +!!!! Anyway after excitedly setting it up I have to say that I have been rather disappointed with it's performance. I am trying to get the Stuart Zender on ROTSC album sound or Flea squelchy sound from Sir Psycho Sexy and do not seem to be getting either. If anyone has one of these and can give some advice on the settings required to achieve these sounds then it would be much appreciated. At the moment the EBS Bass IQ is sounding 10 times better and looks like it will be the one envelope filter that ends up staying on my board. Thanks Mark

 18. Had a few offers through which is great - still keen to hear from someone with a Musicman 5 or 5 a string jazz bass who wants a trade for this beautiful 4 string Warwick! Cheers Mark
PM'd
20. PM'd
Hey man consider a swap for my iceni? Its on the board...ultra rare!
21. Don't think so - I can only just cope with 4 strings let alone 6!! That is the guitar players domain only! Cheers Mark
Would you be interested in a Vigier Passion 6 String?
22. Wow that You Tube clip is awesome - thanks for sharing it with us! Shame I missed them on Sky - you do get some great gigs on the more obscure channels at times. Nice onw. Mark
 23. Now that 3 of my 4 basses have been sold I am left with one that I need keep until my new bass arrives in a few months time. I am thinking that I would like to get hold of a 5 string to go with the new 4 string so wanted to see if anyone fancied a trade? The Warwick was built in 1991 and is the thru neck version, I have owned it for that last 15 years. In pretty good condition all round and has been a great bass for me for so long. Looking really for a 5 string Stingray or Jazz but would consider Lakland or similar and happy to look at some cash adjustments either way! Let me know if you are interested and we can talk money and swap pics etc. Cheers
 24. Have not even got that far yet!! Spoke with Bernie this morning and next week we have to have a long chat to sort some of this out so I will let you know what is decided after that conversation! Can't wait!
At least tell us the spec, woods, colour etc.
