Ok - stand corrected
madagascan rosewood
Just Rosewood I believe.
Whats the wood?
After waiting for this long I am certain that I will never want to send her home to you! How come you get down to Bernie's so much - I have been twice as it is a fair old trip for me. I would like to have gone down recently to sort out the fingerboard stuff but just didn't have the time. BTW attached a pic of the new fingerboard for others to see as I know you have seen it already. Come to think of it you have seen more of my bass then I ever have!
You don't seem to understand. It comes home with me regardless -and don't swear. You don't move GBs on. They just come home to me.
-
Now I reckon that my 4 would be a great match for Gabbie - Bernie says that they are going to be quite similar when they are finished! I know who I can ask about buying it should I ever want to move it on. quote name='EBS_freak' date='Jan 12 2009, 04:55 PM' post='377961'] What does it matter? It's not going anywhere near Cheltenham. It's going straight home with me
-
Would you class Cheltenham as Midlands or South West - always a point of debate. Anyhow my GB Rumour should be heading up this way in just over a month. If you class it as Midlands then that is another one!!!
PS - that's another GB coming up to the Midlands
-
OK - go on then. Like James I am intrigued!!
Quite right. I'm sorry.
-
Ah you can't talk about that here - this is Basschat you know!! MJB
A GB guitar? I need to know more!!!!!! J.
-
Very nice indeed - which one is this for?
Got wood?
Anyone digging the early ninties UK jazz/funk/soul??
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I am almost certain that I was at this gig too! I think that it was the Everyday tour? I still have the T-shirt from the gig upstairs!! If you like the Incognito stuff then you should check out a band called Citrus Sun and an album called Another Time Another Space. There is a track called Make Me Smile and it is awesome. I believe that this is most of the musos from Incognito but with the legendary Jim Mullen on guitar instead of Bluey. Have you seen the Incognito live DVD which has Max Beesley on percussion? Plays a brilliant vibes solo on one track -very talented guy what with acting, music and shagging Mel B too! Saw another great gig in 95/96 and it was called Jazz Iz in Islington and it lasted all day and we saw D Influence, Maceo Parker, JTQ and Jamiroquai it was a great day and nearly as good as the Phoenix Festival that year which had Freakpower, JTQ, Jessica Lauren, Brand New Heavies, George Clinton and Raw Stylus all in one day - good times. Love all this music and just wish that it was still being produced and also that the artists made more money! In The Hand of Inevitable by JTQ is a fantastic album but I bet hardly anyone has ever heard of it and it probably did not sell many copies compared to other genres. I would class Jamiroquai as in this league for their first 3 albums but sadly not anymore! Agreed that People Tree by Mother Earth is also a peach of an album!
Saw Incognito in 1995 at the Ilford Island (I think it was) and they were amazing.. Can't remember who was on drums but Max Beesley was on precussion and the amazing Randy hope Taylor on bass; fantastic. Always loved 'Apparently Nothing' by Young Disciples too.. Some really good British artists around then. Oh, and what a bassline on 'There's Nothing Like This'!
-
Just too confusing! I like you, have been led by Bernie on this build and it was his opinion that persuaded me away from the maple fingerboard on a Rumour! I will speak to him next week and see if he can come up with a suitable alternative. Just want it to look as sexy as possible.
When I say Rosewood - I mean Madagascar Rosewood, Cocobola is actually a Rosewood also...
-
Why not cocobola?
Rosewood - pretty figured, I would go for it over cocobola anytime! Check it out.
-
Well yes or something similar - I would just like to see lots of figuring in the fingerboard and cocobola seems to fit the bill! Bernie says he can do it - so just need to try and agree it all. What is on the Gabbie fingerboard?
About 3 months. Nah. Only joking. It depends how busy the spray guys are I guess. You still thinking cocobola?
-
Just wanting to kick on with my Rumour as we are still stuck on the fingerboard! I missed a call from Bernie on 23rd and have not managed to catch up with him since. Can't wait to finalise the fingerboard and get it all finished. Any idea how long it takes to get the lacquer on and the bass finished once all the wood is chosen?
I would have thought so.
-
Any idea when he is going to be back - Monday??
He's out of the office/workshop at the moment.
-
Struggling to get hold of Bernie at the mo - does anyone know if he is away at the moment? Mark
Gonna be having a proper chat with the man soon. Gonna fret the black one and get a new fretless with snakewood FB. Not sure about colour yet but I dont think the snakewood will look right with black.
-
What's the point? Bernie would just win again but this time with a Spitfire!!
Yeah - I think that Super Jazz shoot out would be quite interesting. As an aside, can a jazz be classed as exotic? Or even "super exotic"? - especially when it is donned in a flat colour. Don't get me wrong, I am a big jazz bass fan - but I certainly wouldn't use "exotic" as a word to describe a jazz bass... I was somewhat surprised at the Roscoe review also... it all seems very... inconsistent and odd... as is the first ever "second opinion" box on a shootout article - what was the underlying message in that I wonder. I'm staying out the Shuker battle!!
-
Well I got near to £800 which is what you advised you thought I would get for it so in the end I was quite happy! The new bass will be ready in the new year so just needed the cash but likewise I was not keen to give it away. Still pains me that they are worth so little at the moment!
Nice one. I'm not desperate to drop the price on mine in order to sell, so I'll hang fire till later next year if need be.
Yes spot on it is Macassa ebony!
I think you are worrying - that fingerboard looks like a perfect match to me. Macassa ebony right?
-
Well yes - only because it looks nice!! You may recall that I went through the dilemma of trying to decide between a maple fingerboard and a dark wood fingerboard - I only ever wanted blistered maple as I love wood with figuring/burr in it. The cocobola fingerboard in the magazine has to be the most highly figured dark wood fingerboard I have ever seen!! Do you think that it would be a bad idea? Mark
Cocobola? Really?
Very, very nice indeed. A nice xmas present?!!! Mark
Picked her up this evening and..........WOW , another masterpiece from Mr. Goodfellow. First impressions, incredibly well balanced and comfortable to hold, stunning to look at , lots of detail to take in, first class workmanship (as if it would be any less than perfect) and an incredible array of tones to call upon. and here with my Rumour, James.
-
Thanks for the kind words - yes the bookmatching is fantastic isn't it! I finally sold my Warwick Thumb on the 'bay on Sunday so I am pretty much gagging for the Rumour now - the fingerboard is my only worry and I am hoping to speak to Bernie about this today. If any of you have seen the 5 string shoot out in this month's BGM you may have noticed the cocobolo fingerboard on the Wood & Tronics bass? That would be my ideal!!! Not sure if Bernie can get that and even if he could what that would push the price up to! It would be good if I could make the trip over to get the bass before I go back to work on Jan 5th though - fingers crossed! Nice shots of the GB in the video - never heard of the band but the bass looks nice! MJB
What an interesting piece of timber for the body. The bookmatched markings at the rear of the body are quite pretty if I do say so myself. The figure is going to pop like mad when that body is polyed and polished up. The before and after when my Rumour was done was unbelievable! Don't worry - this one is going to be ready pretty quickly... I saw James' before it's shape was cut and finished... and literally just a couple of weeks later it's ready! It's close!! It looks like it's been another good year for walnut GBs!
-
Just received the following pics from Bernie. Was hoping that it would be ready between xmas and new year but that seems unlikely now!! I am looking at other fingerboards as I think this one looks a little plain! The facings on the body look lovely when they are "wetted down" believe me. As soon as I have a better idea of completion date I will let you all know. Cheers Mark
James - don't forget to add your latest addition on Tuesday! Oh and I'm expecting Mark's too!
-
As soon as I get mine I will post pictures I promise! A mate of mine is a pro photographer and I am going to ask him to do the honours as soon as I get the Rumour down here. If you follow the link below you can see the pics he took of my Warwick to help me sell it. www.mattbrodie.com/thumbbass Mark
James - don't forget to add your latest addition on Tuesday! Oh and I'm expecting Mark's too!
-
You're a bad man James - that looks awesome!!! Last time I spoke to Bernie he was hoping to get my Rumour 4 finished by Xmas for me to pick up so if you see a 4 string with black american walnut facings back and front then that is mine!!! I hassled Bernie for some pics a week or two ago and they couldn't send them as their ISP was down or something - I guess this must be fixed now?? Let us all know how she plays when you pick her up on Tuesday and some final finished photos would be great too. Bet you are like a small excited child again? - Roll on Tuesday eh! Mark
Well, its almost done, hopefully will pick her up on Tuesday (a nice early xmas present (to myself)! ) Bernie was kind enough to send me some pics to tide me over the weekend. He has stressed that they are not great photo's due to the lighting, and is even more beautiful in person. i've decided to go without LED's (for now) . oh, and a bit of t shirt porn too, Come on Tuesday!!! James.
