1. Strap has arrived in the Borders. I shall have lunch and check it out.
2. Great piece of film. I liked the hands on approach, shows how the World has changed. Also nice to see some of the Strats with their original 'ashtray' bridge covers. Great find and thanks for posting it.
3. Still Whisky played a blinder to a packed White Swan in Kelso. Great audience.
4. Thanks for all the information and opinions from you all. I think I will get a set and give them a shot and see if I like them or not. Never even played a borrowed bass with them on so a wee leap in the dark for me. I appreciate all your inputs and for taking the time to respond. Cheers dudes, Dougie
5. Hi All, I have been playing bass longer that I wish to think about and I have always used roundwounds. I usually use Ernie Ball 50/105 gauge. I am not au fait with flats and wonder what the pros and cons are of using them. I play classic rock and blues and weapon of choice in a Fender Jazz Bass, I am a finger player. Any thoughts, view etc appreciated. Dougie
6. I have not heard of any Pay to Play gigs here in Central/South Scotland although I may be wrong. They mainly want you to play for nothing in a few well known venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh, claim that it is exposure for your band. You are expected to play around an hour and entertain their clients whilst being just one of a shitload of bands who play every night. On the two occasions that we were stupid enough to do it, we ended up doing 2 hours plus as the other bands did not turn up. We did this for the punters who were enjoying our music and not for the venues in question. I may add that one well known venue wouldn't even give you a glass of water farless a beer for free, cheapos! Never play for free or pay to play. You are a professional musician who has invested your time, gear and experience and you should be paid end of.
7. This is sounding very interesting and I await the feedback. I use a 3 1/2 inch wide and padded strap, I suffer from quite severe Osteoporosis and need the weigh distributed over my shoulder. I play Fender Jazz Basses normally and on Occasion a Thunderbird all fitted with similar straps. Watching and be happy to be added to the list.
8. Never Never Land The Pink Fairies, Tales of Mystery and Imagination The Alan Parsons Project and Future Days by Can. Strange mix!
9.
Let me guess, your set list was......... ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ ‘Smoke On The Water’ ‘Thrill Is Gone’ ‘Route 66’ ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ ‘Born To Be Wild’ ‘Alright Now’ ‘Spirit In The Sky’ ‘Johnny Be Good’ ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’ (it's on his web-site ) http://www.donpowellofficial.com/ He is a great spoke, despite the life he's had in the music biz he's one of the two nicest guys I've ever met in it. Great place Hawick (Hoik!) had an ex lived there, used to go to the common ridings.
Yup you got it in one, I forgot the setlist was there! Really nice guy, good charity work and one helluva heavy hitter on the old drums! Common Ridings remain the fun they have always been. Played this year and it pissed down all day, everyone got mildew!
10. I left playing music in my late twenties, and started back 6 years ago, I'm 56 now. Apart from feeling wrecked the next day and the amps being 3 times the weight they used to be I am fine! LOL! The Band I am in are 32, 44,56 & 59. Otherwise no complaints, rock on!
11. Playing in July with Don Powell of Slade fame to promote the National Autistic Society of which Don is an Ambassador, very nice dude.
12. I never use them at all, although I have an occasional glance in the window. They are trading on peoples poverty and I don't like to be part of that at all. As has been also stated they are good at being Fences R Us to boot. Just my opinion on them.
13. Hello from a fellow Scottish person.
14. Here are a couple of me and the band I am in called 'Still Whisky'. The drummer is Don Powell of Slade, we were jammin' with him to help promote the National Autistic Society of which Don is an Ambassador. Really nice dude, very friendly and what a hitter! 15. Hi, this is my Epiphone Classic IV Pro Thunderbird with a few embellishments. I have added speedwinder controls, a thumbrest and the scratchplate and trussrod cover are hand tooled leather on a very thin aluminium backing plate.
16. Beautiful, need to go convince the better half that I need another Bass. I shall try my best!
17. Within the context of its time its got to be Deep Purple 'In Rock'. A heavy rock blitz from start to finish IMHO, also the debut Montrose LP is great.
18. We usually decide what 'new' songs we are going to do, learn them individually then play at a rehearsal or soundcheck.
19. Hello, Greetings from a dank Scotland, welcome to this great forum!
20. Hi Kev, Welcome to the board, I am a newbie around here but not to bass playing. I would go with the suggestion of second hand bass, more bang for your buck. As for new in your price range an Epi T Bird or the Squier VM's are both great IMHO! All the best, Dougie (Scottish Borders) Bass 'Still Whisky'
21. I quite like the new one. I have a leather tooled scratcher on my TBird that looks kinda cool.
22. Beautiful looking bass. I assume it plays as good as it looks?
