  1. Thats because we're not sure where the bathroom is.......😄
  2. I dont know if its a recording glitch or not but on Gladys Knights 'A Licence to Kill' she definitely sings 'a licence to kilt'.I know its not misheard lyrics but just sayin' is all.
  3. You could try this company. They go by the imaginative name of N I Parcels.I've used them before to send parcels to UK mainland.https://www.niparcels.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA3uGqBhDdARIsAFeJ5r0DLU4v0X_KRv1EX6j68xWiiBDGdVhiE115lCyQT7Khuf_9rQRTk5EaArrVEALw_wcB
  4. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_mb_5_sb_deluxe_series.htm I have one and find it hard to fault.Except the strings.Change the strings.
  5. 'Young Turks' by Rod Stewart has been bugging me since I woke this morning, but its started me thinking. He doesn't use the title anywhere in the lyrics.Anywhere.Then I thought 'Maggie May'. Same thing.Just refers to 'Maggie' throughout. Then I thought 'Da ya think I'm sexy?' Again, never uses those words. Then I thought 'go and do something useful, you wassock!' That was me talking to myself.
  6. Most overrated band in the world.Bono's vocals are akin to a pub singer here.
  7. James Taylor - 'Day Tripper' off the 'Flag' album. Surprised at you James.
  8. My amp is the Laney RBG400 which has a lot less inside than that pictured by DGBass.Ive managed to oontact a guy in Lisburn N.Ireland.Says he'll take a look at it.
  9. Not really BB.The hum is not affected by the volume control ie it stays the same volume no matter what you do.Having said that I extricated the amp itself from the cab expecting to see maybe a burnt cap or something but no.Everything looks fine.In fact theres precious little to the amp.A small board about 15 x5cms,a large torroidal transformer and another board for the controls. The caps look fine not bulging or burnt.I may have found a tech about 30 miles from me.I'll see what he thinks.Cheers.
  10. Thank you for your insightful and helpful reply Paul, but if you had read my post you would see that 'proper techs' are thin on the ground, hence my original post.
  11. Thanks for the really helpful input guys. The amp has been sitting in the one spot in my bedroom for months now and only gets used as a 'home noodling' amp,ie doesn't get moved about at all.Its ironic as I'm awaiting delivery of a new Harley Benton 5 string MM style bass tomorrow and now I've no amp.Well I've got a Fender Rumble 15 which is better than nothing, almost. My usual rig is a Trace Elliot 4 x 10 plus 250 watt amp so thats not getting in my bedroom.I'm in the UK (N.Ireland) and amp techs are thin on the ground over here. But I'll keep looking.Cheers.
  12. I was using my Laney RBG400 at home this morning. It started to crackle slightly, and then emitted a loud hum which is uncontrollable.I know its a long shot but can any boffins out there give me any pointers as to what it could be,and more importantly,is it worth fixing? The amp is old and has seen better days.Thanx.
  13. Used to put a lot of business McCormacks of Bath Street's way back in the early 70s.Bought a RED Marshall stack there.
  14. Horslips to give them their correct spelling were an Irish folk/rock/trad band in the 60s. Check out trax like 'Furniture' and 'Dearg Doom'.Great band.
  15. Heres what I think. The piscatorial theme makes me think that the 'Bass' in question is actually the fish, and not the instrument,The 'fretless' theme is that the fish is not fretting, and so hasn't a care in the world. So its all about a mysterious happy fish.Plain as the nose on your wotsit.
  16. Tracy Chapman - Fast Car.."And your arms and legs wrapped round my shoulder" should be "Your arms felt nice............"
  17. I used to get this quite regularly. You have to physically peel your fingers back to their normal position? I rarely got it when playing electric bass standing up but ALWAYS when sitting down with the acoustic bass.I put it down to my playing position with my right arm on the edge of the acoustic basses body, like it was affecting blood flow or something.Never got it checked out and nothing came of it,apart from being a nuisance.Mibbe I should check it out?
  18. Royal Blood conspicuous by their absence from 'Later........' tonight.Billed to appear, but didnt.
  19. Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers - Irelands Industry Beatles 'She came in through.......' - "But now shes such a Golden Wonder,by the banks of her old lagoon''.This one I discovered only a fortnight ago.Should be "But now she sucks her thumb and wonders"
  20. 10CC - 'Life is a Minestrone, served up with Parmies and cheese'.What the hell is a Parmy? Stealers Wheel - 'And your friendly Uncle Colin taps you on the back and says Pleeease' Oo'er missus.
  21. Can anyone recommend a decent set of acoustic bass strings in the £20 - £30 price range? Preferably not phosphor bronze as I find them very 'scratchy',but hey,if there nowt else....Theres an awful lot of no-name 'bundled strings' online which look decidedly dodgy.Much appreciated.
  22. Well another discovery about this bass.I bought a soundhole cover to alleviate feedback when playing out. This has had the effect of completely obliterating the 'D' string altogether when played through an amp.So it looks like I wont be holding on to this bass at all. I've asked Thomann for their comments but I'm not holding out much hope. You get what you pay for I suppose.
  23. I bought one the HB B-30BK acoustic basses from Thomann. All in all its nothing spectacular but it plays well, has good volume acoustically and is comfortable. The neck has 22 frets as opposed to 24 in earlier models resulting in a slightly shorter neck.Played acoustically, the strings have a uniform volume although they are very 'scratchy' for want of a better word maybe 'noisy' would be better.Frets are well trimmed and overall not a bad bass HOWEVER....(theres always something) when played through an amp there is a volume variation in 1 string. The 'D' string when playing on frets 1-5 shows a marked drop in volume which is not at all noticeable acoustically.Above fret 5 all is well. This points to either the bridge or the transducer under the bridgepiece.Am I right? and if anyone has heard of this or can offer any tips on overcoming it,I'd be most grateful.OK it cost £129 so I cant expect perfection,I know that. But I'd like to fix it.
