  1. I've found, through trial and error that the combination you guys mention is the best overall.Theres definitely a punchier sound with the gain about 12 o clock and just using the Master to control overall volume.I find I'm having to keep the bass control at about 2 o clock to get decent bass.Im using the amp through a 1 x 15 Laney cab with Mids at about 9 o clock. What settings do you guys use? Bass is a HB MM 5 string clone.
  2. Or the other guy at the Cliff Richard concert who shouts "Hey Cliff, sing 'Itchy F4nny'.Cliff ignores him so he tries again."Cliff, give us 'Itchy F4nny mate".Cliff loses it and shouts back "I dont do any songs like that. Now stop asking" Guy goes "Sure you do,'Itchy F4nny,we dont talk anymore'.That one!"
  3. Like the guy at the Stevie Wonder concert.Shouts to Stevie "Stevie play a jazz chord" Stevie plays a couple on his keyboard but the guy shouts back "No! A jazz chord Stevie!" Stevie gets exasperated and shouts out "I dont know any more" The guy goes "Sure you do,You know ''A Jazz Chord,to say, I lovvvvvve you"
  4. This chap. You may have seen him about. The reason I lifted a bass aged 14.
  5. Who was the guy years ago who played a Zon bass and had at least 47 different D-Tuners on his headstock?Curly headed dudeDid a lot of melodic solos.Well like him,it was pleasant to listen to - for a while.CB is talented no doubt and a nice guy to boot but I could only listen to him for a short while.
  6. Another thing I've noticed today. When I took the Gnome to a recording session and used the DI out XLR,the body of the amp remained much much cooler than when I'm using it at home connected via the 1/4 inch jack to a 1x15 cabinet (8 ohm).when it gets noticeably hotter. Is this normal?
  7. After years of using an old school backline setup,my main aim was being loud enough to hear onstage.I never paid much attention to amp settings on my TE amp with 4x10 and 1x15 cabs.I was never into distortion or even effects for that matter. Its just something I noticed recently and thought 'is it that important?' I'm retired from live gigs now and am just using the Gnome for bedroom practice along with a Laney 1x15 cab.Cheers for the input.
  8. Just came into possession of a little Warwick Gnome amp and it just got me thinking.I usually use the gain up high and control overall volume with the Master,Is this the right way?Is there any advantage in trying it vice-versa?You know gain low, master high?Or is it a personal thing?
  9. One of his hits was entitled 'Do you wanna touch me (there)?' Says it all really.
  10. This.Looks as if the body has been stretched. It just looks well...wrong.Dont hate it,just dont like it.
  11. I use the TC Polytune clip-on and find it faultless.
  12. Bergerac for instance?Lovely gooey fretless work.
  13. I'll see how things are when I change the cap.I've noticed that the pots are tiny and dont look up to much.Likewise the wiring.Apart from that the bass plays fine, has a comfortable neck and actually looks great.Thanx.
  14. Just ordered a cupla Sprague O/Ds.See how that goes. The way I see it,there cant really be anything else at fault.Or can there...........?
  15. OK lads I've had a look.Firstly the pots are tiny wee flimsy things and the wiring seems a bit untidy, but, far as I can see, everything is where it should be and the cap doesnt seem to be shorting anywhere.I was thinking about doing a rewire with some more substantial components.I know its a cheap bass but I like it.Thanx for the input.
  16. Thanx guys.I'll check those things out, soon as......
  17. I have the Harley Benton 5 string MM lookalike bass.I've noticed that the tone control is acting like a volume control. When opened fully it will increase the output considerably and when turned down with both volume controls up full will reduce output to nearly nothing.Cant be right surely? The bass is passive.Any pointers guys?
  18. Stu Cook - 'Have you ever seen rain?' by Creedence.
  19. I vaguely remember seeing Steve Howe of Yes use one of these years ago.The song was 'And You and I' and it was a 12-string acoustic he had on it.
  20. Good to hear that choon again.I remember looking at Ron Mael back in the day and just .....wondering.Quite a complex song but they did a very passable version there.
  21. Consider it ignored.😄
  22. Ach awa' an dinna talk pish, the baith o'yiz.😆I'll try a full size shim and see how that goes.I'll use thin card.Should be OK.
  23. While I'm grateful for the input guys,I'm just wondering if I could have some opinions re shimmimg the neck.A friend has recommended a full neck pocket shim to raise the neck uniformly along the full length of the pocket, which is actually 10cm front to back due to the 6 bolts.Spyder has suggested a 'normal' shim at the body end of the neck pocket,so I'm not too sure which one to follow. In truth, thats the one I would have gone for,but the full length shim sounds safer.Input welcome.
  24. I accept that but my problem is why has it changed from what it was? It went from a very comfortable action to very uncomfortable.I've managed to tweak the truss rod a bit,and lower the strings to their max just to get the original action back as best I could but I'm needing to shim the neck now in order to get a bit of adjustment back to the bridge, should I need to in the future.I cant think what could've caused this.I know its a HB but Its still a very good bass.
