1. The 59 precision is already up to £1400... Others don't seem to share my scepticism
 2. This all looks very suspect... a 54 precision, 69 jazz, a ritter and various others... no reserve... bad english... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1954-Fender-Precision-Bass-/390614449527?pt=Guitar&hash=item5af26f7d77 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Vintage-1969-Jazz-Bass-Electric-Guitar-USA-NR-/231003731194?pt=Guitar&hash=item35c8e534fa http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ritter-Jupiter-Eye-Of-Horus-Jupiter-Bass-Phil-Lesh-/321147663796?pt=Guitar&hash=item4ac5e475b4
 3. Morning Bump... I may possibly withdraw this to be honest. I'd quite like to keep it, although I'd have to hide any future purchases from Mrs CamdenRob. Maybe trades. Anyone got a Mayones Jabba 4 there willing to part with for the G&L and some cash? I only really like the new white or sea foam green ones.
 4.
That's seems like a good deal ! The Gallery has the same one on sale for 220£
Theirs is more of a silver sick colour, mine is definitaly more in the gold sick ball park... Plays really well though, any interest? may possible trade for a decent outboard preamp...
 5. Turns out it was all an error... ah well nevermind it amused me for the day.
 6.
Just worked it out for a laugh - add another 15k to your figure above...
Well that still keeps it under 80 grand.. so very reasonable In my view. I wonder if they'd be up for a trade for my Squire P bass and a cash adjustment? They've also apperantly only made 100 at these (in no way whatsoever ridiculous) prices, so they are only expecting to make a modest six million quid on this particular model then.
 7.
WoW
Wow indeed... after I've forked out the £62K its only £85 for postage.....
 8. Amazing value...£62'097.70 I'll see if I've got any spare change.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musicman-Stingray-4-BFR-Redwood-Special-New-Ball-Family-Reserve-Bass-Guitar-/231002787597?pt=Guitar&hash=item35c8d6cf0d
 9. OK... bit of a random one this. I've got those fender cables with the white tips, loads of them all different lengths. They are all less than Three months old and I've never had an issue with them. In fact I liked them so much they are the only brand I've bought. The clipping problem when recording chords refused to go away, I tried everything to no avail. Then by random chance I plugged my Spector straight into the BR-80 using an old Piranha cable and bingo, no distortion, no clipping... all my other basses are fine too. I've since tried all my fender white tips (8 cables) and every single one leads to clipping when recording chords. Both my old Piranha cables record fine. I'm assuming this is a random quirk with the combination of a particular type of cable and a particular type of input.. Anyway, all sorted and hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff down this weekend Rob
 10.
now my friend (he said gently opening the shop door to reveal many shiny things lain hidden for many minutes) have you tried an ACG...
ah I've seen a few of those around, beautiful indeed... I'm currently having a letts custom build that should satify my coffee table bass needs...
 11.
Even if it makes you cringe now, that's actually not a bad cover. I do like the 1 audience member in the front headbanging Your music has really changed!
I'm never embarassed about stuff I used to do, however bizare it may seem looking back on it. I think the guy at the front was one of our mates who wanted to be in the band... Makes me laugh to think of how serious we used to take it all. I'm convinced that old Status Energy made an apperance in the for sale section last week as well... small world...
 12.
...and now the shopping list is on view, would that be your avatar too matey?
No thats last weeks 'must have' deluxe fender jazz... I decided the sandberg would better suit my jazz bass shaped needs... I'll probably be desperate for something else next week.. damn i'm fickle
 13.
unless presumably someone has the exact Sandberg you're looking for, then you'd be in a quandry eh 'G&L are superbly built basses, even the Tribby ones' type bump!
Ha ha yes there is a Natural VM 5 shaped hole in my collection...
 14. Picked this up about a month ago new, it's a wonderful player with a huge variety of sounds. I'd rather not be parting with it, truth be told, but I've got [s]a serious Sandberg California VM 5 (Natural) itch[/s] an impending house move and need to raise some funds / make some room. Here is a video of me playing it, only video camera audio but the rough gist comes across. As new condition (see pics) Taking a bit of a hit on this one, considering I bought it new a month or so back, as I need to raise some funds. Pick up only I'm afraid. Anyone around the Camden area is welcome to pop over one evening and try it out. I still have the tags it came with and the original receipt and I'll throw in a Stagg gigbag as well. 15. Cort Curbow 4 FL - [s]£150[/s] - £95 - Trying to shift this before a trip to bass direct next weekend. This is my Cort Curbow Four string fretless. I picked this up a couple of months back and I’ve decided fretless is just not for me. It plays and sounds great and has just come back from The Gallery for a full set up and re-string with la bella flats (which cost almost as much as I'm selling it for). Anyone is welcome to pop round one evening in Camden and try her out. I’m not sure about organising a courier so this one will be pick up only. Good condition overall with some marking on the neck from the previous roundwound strings (see images) Not looking for trades on this one, need the cash! 16.
Can you try recording into your mic input in your pc/mac to see if you can replicate the problem there? if you can that would remove the Boss unit from the potential list of culprits. Are the chords you're playing very dense with small intervals, it may be a select group of frequencied which are distorting?
Thanks Steve, I think thats my next port of call. I'll investigate a bit further and try and eliminate some more posibilities. It just seems odd that its fine with single notes but as soon as I attempt a chord (any chord) it distorts... Might even be my headphones or something? I'll try some different monitoring options when I get home from work tonight.
 17.
Are there settings on the Boss unit to determine the input type (i.e. line in or microphone for e.g) or possibly an input pad to reduce the level?
Yeah there is a mic / line switch which I've got set to line and there is an input sensitivity pad which I've got set to the maximum -12db. I can't work out where the clipping is comming from, its not a visible clip on the level meter. Seems odd its only when I play chords? Rob
 18. Morning All, Bit of advice needed here. I’ve picked up one of those little boss micro multitracks (BR-80 I think it’s called) at the weekend to start recording some of my solo bass bits a bit better quality than the old youtube video approach. I know it’s not top quality, but it’s small, convenient and seems to do everything I need it for at the moment. I’m having a bit of an issue with recording higher register chords. I seem to have a good strong clean bass sound for recording basslines and higher register melodies but when I try to record chords I seem to be getting distortion. I’m playing chords high up on a sixer so they are not stupendously low notes and they sound fine through my amp / cab setup. I’m also having the same issue playing simple two note chords on my four string. If I drop the input level really really low I can pick them up cleanly but then I get loads of hiss. The level meter is nowhere near peaking but yet the signal is still distorted? I’m getting this issue whether I run straight into the input or via the DI out of my amp and also if I use the line out of my amp. I’m at a bit of a loss…. Don’t know if I need a high pass filter? Is my bass creating frequencies that are peaking the input that I can’t hear? Why do I only have this problem when playing chords? I’ve very limited experience with recording and I’m hoping there is something obvious I’m not doing. Rob
 19.
If you are in London then see if you can get to try one of these yourself and see what you think . Don't let me put you off , but listen to how much the bass gives of an electronic hum through the amp . Apparently , some examples are better shielded better than others , so it can be a bit hit and miss . For around what these basses cost there are a lot of options when it comes to active Jazz Basses , especially if you consider used basses . Something like a Sadowsky Metro would most likely be a better bass all round than one of these and that is where my money would go if I was after that active Jazz Bass sound . They often have them in stock at The Gallery in Camden if you want to try one and compare it to the Fender I am a sucker for blocks and binding on a Jazz Bass myself , but cosmetics are no substitute for sound and playability in my experience .
Yeah there is no substitute for trying them out obviously. I live about 100 yards from the gallery but I've banned myself from going in until they've sold this Nordstrand sixer they have in there... I've walked past it twice and managed not to buy it a third time I might not be so lucky. I've thought about Sadowsky and looked at some Sandbergs too. The whole Jazz bass design is somthing I've only recently grown to appreciate and it's opened up a whole new angle on what I look for in a bass. Thanks for your advice Rob
 20.
Hi Rob , I don't own one of these , but I have played a four string one . They are indeed nice looking basses , but I wasn't that impressed with certain aspects of them . They have got all the conventional Jazz Bass sounds you would expect and you can swith the bass into passive mode for that , and the preamp helps give you the characteristic active Jazz Bass sounds that are a bit more modern - sounding and very fashionable nowadays . However , I wasn't that impressed overall particulaly with the electronics in this particular model . The preamp isn't at all impressive - sounding compared to some of the better ones I have heard and the electronic shielding doesn't seem to to be very good or effective either . The pickups are also not particulaly inspiring . My own personal opinion would be that you would get a much better final result for similar money by buying a post 2012 American Standard bass with the excellent Custom Shop pickups and using an external preamp such as the ones available from Aguilar , Sadowsky or MXR , or adding something like an onboard East J Retro preamp .
Ah thats a shame... Its kind of why I asked the question though. I've been down the road of "wow that looks amazing I must have it" only to feel slightly let down once the shiney new bass feeling wears off. I have seen quite a few options for pickups / preamps in other peoples threads, seems to be no end to the modification options with Jazz basses. Rob
 21. Anyone have an American Deluxe Jazz Bass V in natural with the black scratchplate? I've never been a Fender man in my life, always been a coffee table bass kinda guy but man these are good looking... I've attempted to post an image below but I'm not sure if it'll work. Does anyone have one of these (or the 4-string version) in this finish. How does it play? How does it sound compared to a conventional Jazz? Rob [Edit] Evidently the picture worked but has ended up really small... Sadly I lack the skills to make it bigger...
 22. I used to have one of these... those markings look familiar.... Played beautifully well I remember. Rob
 23.
Hey Rob Really nice playing and some very musical ideas - nice work. If I have one small constructive criticism (and I speak from my own experience) the video and music's quality is slightly undermined by the lo-fi location - try a tighter camera angle if you can (my own flat has plenty of baby/kid toys in etc and various bits of clothing lying around so I try and clean up the room before I film anything) - as your playing deserves slicker presentation if possible. Hope that's cool - keep on recording these ideas it sounds like you're developing some good stuff. Cheers Mike
Thanks Mike Your comments are not only constructive but also much appreciated. I can see you've written fairly extensivly here on Basschat on the subject of producing good looking / sounding videos and recordings etc. I'm always happy to get any advice from folk who know more about this kind of thing than I do To be honest I think I'm guilty of a bit of the old 'If its going to sound crap on a camera mic anyway why bother making it look professional' attitude. Worse still, with a couple of the videos on my channel recently I've been a bit sloppy with my playing and just though 'ah well I'll post it anyway'... No excuses I know, time to shape up The plan is to get some recording kit and ditch the videos in favour of a soundcloud account (as you and many others seem to be using) The youtube thing is a bit of a stop gap but I guess in the meanwhile I should try and make it look as good as I can. I'll have a mess around with the angles next time, maybe put a sheet in the background or somthing to block out the (lo-fi) girlfirends wardrobe setting... Other background options are the bathroom (good for natural reverb but a bit cramped), the kitchen (bit more space but I'm likely to get distracted by a kit kat chunky) or the living room (contains the drinks fridge... enough said) Looking forward to your collaboration with SKOL this month, how are things shaping up? Rob
 24. Went to watch a friend at the underbelly recently... was a bit underwhelmed to be honest. It was busy but very kinda clubby in atmosphere. No-one really listening to the music, seemed more interested in shouting at each other about the football... Almost worth a visit for the wallpaper alone though... Rob
