1. Tried teaching? I used to make a fairly decent amount teaching in my younger days when I was at collage, a couple of students a few nights a week could help boost the finances a bit. Rob
2. I miss read the title of this thread as 'The Worlds Best Smelling Bass'...... been a long day, eyes gone fuzzy.
3. Bump - Not too bothered if this doesn't go, It really does play rather well... I've my eye on something else but this might be one of those 'grass is greener' moments Oh well, bump it is for now. Rob
4.
Rob, Ive seen your stuff and its great , but on a stage it just seems a bit odd to see an act build his part by playing in all the other parts first, rather than have his band mates do their bit . yes its a skill , but it rather eliminates the people skills that are needed to actually have a band .
Yes I'd probably look like a bit of a plonker building loops on my own on stage, its definitely more of a 'bedroom player' thing for me. They don't have to be used for a two chord loop and an endless widdly solo though, I've never played a solo in my life. Obviously a looper is not a substitute for a band, a full spectrum of instruments can produce a overall sound far richer than just a bass. I use my looper as I don't have the time to dedicate to a proper band, but still want to keep my hand in musically and be creative. The looper allows me to create more complex pieces on my own than I ever could as just a guy playing a bass. Then again you might be on to something with the 'people skills that are needed to actually have a band'... I don't really like other people, I find them irritating and irrational... especially those you encounter on public transport... Rob
5. The gallery in camden has the biggest selection (check out their webpage) I live just around the corner so I've been a few times, although their buzzer system is a little intimidating and unfriendly the first time you go there... They are top blokes though and more than willing to let you try anything out (in my experience). Although maybe check they are open on a bank holiday... My one and only visit to Wunjos on denmark street was a positive experience as well and they seem to stock all the usual suspects. Rob
6.
This thread needs more pictures. A little stagnant since June!
Wow...
7. This is hopefully now going to a new home. Rob
8. Yes of course you can. Your welcome to it. Rob
9. I thought macs were only for people with tight jeans and trendy hats in Shoreditch who sit in the window of Starbucks... Rob
10. Moving house in a couple of weeks and rearranging some of my gear. I have a Five bass stand going spare if anyone wants it? It folds flat to make it a bit easier to transport around. To be honest I've only ever trusted Three basses on it with a space in between each... guess it depends on your ding tolerance as with Five they are pretty close together. Also my Jazz doesn't really sit right on it as its too shallow, suits my other basses fine though. Still if anyone wants it, pop up to Camden and its yours. Rob
11. I love my looper, Its almost single handedly rekindled my interest in bass after several years in the wilderness. I'm not ashamed if that makes me a bedroom player, I'm no rock star... too old and too bald... Rob
12. If I was to make a profit on something, or someone make a profit out of me. I absolutely couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else thought about it. Supply and Demand. If you buy something when no-one wants it and sell it later on when people do you will get a higher price. Why would anyone who isn't involved in the deal be bothered about it anyway? Rob
13. Oh Lord... If this is still here by the time I get back from holiday...
14. Resurrecting this due to recent experience, not about Soundslive but this seemed the best place for it... I dropped Fender an email yesterday inquiring about a jazz bass I bought a couple of days ago. This morning I have a detailed response from a man named Bryce with a full history of the instrument and several additional comments on things I didn't know about the bass. I thought it was refreshing for a company the size of Fender to bother to compile a detailed reply to a guy Four Thousand miles away who's just bought a second hand Jazz bass. Excellent stuff. Rob
15. Bought a beautiful 50th anniversary jazz from Simon this morning. Very pleased, a wonderful bass exactly as advertised. Simon went the extra mile taking a number of pictures I requested and even changed his arrangements to drop this off for me. Top trader.
16. Wow... If I hadn't just bought a jazz I'd be all over this. Doubt this will be here long. Rob
17. I've bought some crap in the past by mistake, I sympathise... Surely someone wants a bass for a tenner though? I'd have used my pennies for this when I was 13...
18. Wow I've gained two votes since I looked this morning, at this rate by the close of voting I'll have.... two votes.... A big thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on soundcloud, its much appreciated. Rob
19. This went... then didn't... went again... then didn't. Anyone looking for a cheapy fretless? Pick up only.
20. Some great input here chaps, much appreciated... I wonder just how much of a current 'vintage' fenders value is simply the equivalent of inflation over the instruments lifetime? I'm guessing if one was looking for appreciation value in an instrument available new today, you would have to find something that was as new and original as a fender P was in the beginning. I mean we're not talking about a new take on the bass guitar, we're talking about an entirely new instrument as it was back in the 50's... Investment aside for a moment...and maybe I'm just a blinkered old bass enthusiast... I've got an itch for an old jazz... I think i'm just trying to justify it... Rob
21. I have a mint Blueburst L-2000 Tribute I put up for sale a month or so back on here for £350... might possibly re-list it if you had any interest? Not entirely sure I want to part with it though! Rob
