1. some seriously great work here guys - really impressed with Nige's effort and Walman's too - amazing stuff peeps - I've voted but not telling who, oh alright then it was Lowdown - Garry I really admire your studio skillz geezer - some great sounds and ideas on that track.... WELL DONE all to the exceptional effort and enthusiasm you've all mustered for this - hopefully I'll have time to enter the next one - I look forward to seeing the pic (I think). Cheers Mike
 2. You know the deal...
 3.
Excellent; congratulations to all. Splendid stuff; thanks for sharing.
Thanks fella Mike
 4.
That is some serious engineering absolutely A+ But it is a very modern version of one of those pianos where you put a roll of music in and it uses the mechanical apparatus to turn the input into music. Really scary will be a robot hand plucking a bass guitar, it will use audio sensors to analyse the music for frequency and timing to pick out the bass using an algorithm devised from a library of players from different genres, it would then attempt to work out the baseline by a system of plucking and fretting and comparing the results to the original.I think manipulating the robotic hands will be the hardest part I think the analasyis of the track would be quite feasible given a powerful modern computer.
Love to see it play some Wooten stuff though....
 5.
Scariest thing I've heard of though is a bit of software that can extract MIDI from audio so well that it can be used in combination with a grand piano capable of being played by MIDI to recreate and re-record a performance of a long dead artist, to the point where a new duet can be created with a living artist. Which was done recently at Manifold Studios (IIRC). Bonkers!
I've been using Melodyne Editor to generate MIDI files from my audio - makes creating actual songs rather than loads of bass parts possible: It's usually used as an advanced auto-tune VST but it's got polyphonic capabilities too - so you can get into some complicated chords as well... The guy on this clip is extremely annoying but gives you an idea of how it can work for bass too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCtB9qWTIO8
 6.
I vaguely recall having a GT6B, it's the red one right? I think i got it because all the guitarists were using multi fx units and I thought I needed one to fit in. I twiddled and fiddled with the thing for a couple of months then sold it for about what I paid so no damage done. I think it tought me that I was mistakenly buying gear and then looking for a reason to use it. What I should be doing (and have done ever since) is having a situation established where I required some specific sound and only then going out and buying what was required to fill the demand. I still have junk lurking in cupboards bought on a whim that I'll probably struggle to give away.
This is exactly my fear at the moment - I'm liking using a couple of pedals again for the first time in a long time, but 99% of the time I just change the tone on my bass - deeper for groove stuff, more mid-orientated for solos etc and fingerstyle - and that's it... I was going down the 'computer music' road earlier this year and while I love all that Ableton stuff and will continue using it - nothing beats PLAYING pure and simple - get your sh*t together on the bass and MAKE MUSIC - not silly noises on your bass... and then use that as an excuse not to be able to play something well - sorry rant over... I love FX but there's so many out there today that all do wonderful things it's tempting to get completely sidetracked into that world - most of the playing situations you find yourself in don't require a boat-sized pedal board - even though looking bloody wicked (!) - most of the time a couple of useful and effective pedals will do. Good tone comes from your fingers, feel and musical knowledge - and a half-decent bass and amp set up.
 7. These work pretty well as a cheap-ish and relatively reliable analogue-to-MIDI converter - you can get a signal splitter and run both clean bass and synth at the same time: http://www.sonuus.com/products_i2m_mp.html Just a thought - the Taurus sounds pretty amazing - though I think not being able to turn the knobs while playing would be a shame... although I guess you could MIDI-map those too....
 8. +1 Boxed version has 30GB of very useful and useable samples and loops
 9. Not had a hope in hell of doing something this month - the pictures kind of put me off a bit this month - I had two conflicting thoughts and I wasn't sure how the f*ck I was going to create a bit of music incorporating the two...! I'll definitely check out the results though and vote - hopefully I'll be able to do something in Dec cheers Mike

 11.
Great stuff, Mike. The trumpet player's tone is particularly lovely. Was the sound recorded off a desk?
Thanks Rob - it was actualy multi-tracked by an engineer so all live mic-ed in the club - it's come out well I think - I mixed it... so it's not perfect but it'll do - for a first gig together. CHeers for checking it Mike
 12. Hey folks - really wanted to share this epic ten minute work out on one of my tunes - recorded live at my gig last weekend - I just got a complete multi-track recording of both sets and some of it is cooking. This is a tune from my solo album arranged for my new band - it's turned out well I think and the guys play it brilliantly - I love how the groove builds under the solos best http://soundcloud.com/munkio/sing-your-own-anthem-live-at Hope you enjoy - let me know what you think - a few more tracks coming soon Mike
 13.
Wow! This is great, Mike. A stonkingly good band you've got here. Looks like a fantastic gig to be at. More please!
Thanks dude - and Bilbo - there's some more footage from the gig - plus a full multi-track recording of all the instruments - I'm collecting the files for that later today. I'll be puting together a web site with more audio, vids and pics soon - many more gigs in the new year hopefully... it's such a blast playing with these guys - I've been meaning to sort a band out like this for ages! Cheers Mike
 14.
Is it the 4 or 8 ohm version? Will.
It's the 4ohm version - which means you get the full 500w
 15.
Series 1 Epifani cab - amazing cabs and increasingly rare. Someone after this size/weight cab should snap it up - there's nothing better IMO than the series 1 stuff, if your wanting something in the modern/soulful/funky/warm sonic window then it's a no brainer. Good luck with the sale and have a bump for a rare beauty. Highly recommended.
Thanks fella - they really are super fine cabs - my only reason for selling is the desire for a slight change of sound *for me* - this cab has a super sweet sound and really is incredibly loud for its size....
 16.
PM'd!
Replied
 17. small bump for this - I am considering a price drop - offers near the 350 mark accepted
 18. Sounds very nice Phil - Baron is one badass player - good you played it on fretless too as that's his usual choice live, I've seen him play crazy sh*t on a fretless 4-string Jazz, making it sound amazing, slapping even, such a groovy player - very underrated Cheers Mike
 19.
Mike, I enjoyed that! It had a really nice vibe. You know I'm not keen on jazz, but that sort of felt right, it was fun!
Cheers Nige - that's kind of the idea - not taking it all too seriously - I particularly love playing like this though, all we have is a basic set of changes and a 'head' (melody) and off we go... no disrespect to a lot of the 'serious' jazz out there, but one of the reasons it can be a turn off is there's a lack of groove... not that groove should take priority, but it should be present.... Thanks dude
 20. Hey all I’ve held off selling this cab because I love it so much but I think I’m finally ready for a change – but that’s no reflection on the quality of this cab. It has been gigged quite a bit but never hard, and I’ve even had comments like “is that a new cab?” as I have really looked after it – it’s roughly four years old. As with all Epifani gear it has real midrange warmth, crisp highs and serious bottom end power – I can honestly say I’ve never had to go past ‘midnight’ on my amp’s volume and this has easily coped with playing in a seven piece band. The neodymium speakers sound killer too producing a really defined and highly detailed sound. I know these are no longer available and were retailing for £799 they are highly sought after and really were a top of the line product from Epifani – it does shows signs of wear on the plastic corner protectors but the carpet covering is still unblemished, and everything else looks nearly new. 21.
cool vids and nice wah sounds too is that gabor on drums ?
Yes the one and only Gabor Dornyei - this man's a monster - great bloke too M
 22. Yes right now - after years of having let someone else lead the one I was in (now no longer thanks to starting my own) - I can honestly say yes, it's early days but the guys are super cool, organised, talented and professional - as the old saying goes; if you want a job doing well, do it yourself....
 23. Some jazzin', funkin' footage from our first gig (in this formation) from last weekend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQzIpn10TR8
 24.
Man that sounds great, both of them ! Hope when I start gigging to join a funk/jazz band of that caliber. Great feel.
Thanks fella - yeah it's a pleasure playing with these guys - cheers for checking it Mike
 25. A couple of clips from our gig last night at the Spice Of Life - such a great night this band is totally vibing - these are from the first set and we were just getting warmed up... anway hope you dig the sound of the group - the second one has some bass noodling on... Thanks for checking it - more gigs coming next year Mike
