1. Mine arrived on Monday, which was pretty prompt. Comments about sharp edges and frets are valid but should be easily fixed. Sounds lovely, which is the important bit. Now for the leftie conversion....which will now involve: 1) No bridge work (other than a little hole reaming), there is no compensation. 2) The nut is not reversible, so will need to make a new one. 3) There is a difference in the tuner slot size, so will need to look if this is a problem or whether they are reversible etc etc. 4) Reverse the strings and that should be it.
 2. How wee? My youngest (now 12 but was 11 when we bought it), chose a Washburn (cannot remember the model number) after trying various guitars. It is a 'metal' style twin bucker, fixed bridge. Nice and light (thin well contoured basswood body) and with a good sound. She has been very happy with it.
 3.
Forever Sun in Dorset. Only max capacity of 5000 but was pretty good
This should be my local festival but due to their 'no under 14s' policy, I can't go (and won't - my choice as a single parent). It didn't look particularly busy when I drove past on Saturday on the way to the beach but it has survived two years so far...and last year was very very wet! Glad you had a good time.
 4.
Went to see Ade Edmondson and The Bad Shepherds at the local venue last night. Excellent musicianship, great entertainment and the best game of 'Name That Tune' you could wish for. Top notch. Recommended.
....and his other band - The Idiot Bastard Band (playing here at the Electric Palace in Bridport a couple of years ago). Band consists of Ade, Phill Jupitus, Neil Innes and Rowland Rivron. 5.
BTW, all them seem to be gone at thomann site again. Not even in catalogue.
Dammit!!!! Can any of the new owners give their impressions on the ability to convert it to leftie as discussed earlier in the thread. If the responses are positive I will have to jump on the next batch!
 6.
Not easy. You might be able to swap the nut around if the slots aren't sloping downwards towards the tuners, but the intonation will be out unless you reverse the fixed bridge, which is a piece of plastic fitted tightly into an angled slot in the wood.
Yes, was thinking that but looking closely at the piccies on Thomann; the nut looks flat cut and potentially reversible and the bridge intonation piece looks to be fitted square and maybe also reversible (or could go fretless and learn to sort that out myself). I suspect the holes in the bridge would need a little reaming. Anyone with one able to confirm?
 7. Hmmmm, wonder how easy a leftie diy conversion would be.....
 8. Personally, as someone who can read music but is not used to Bass Clef (used to play brass which is mainly in Treble Clef), when I create scores - I put on both. This allows me to use the score for note timings and the tab to give me a heads up when I accidentally head back into Treble mode.
 9. To add an Arghh, if it was a leftie dosh would also be in the ether - would make a nice backup for my Gibson.
 10.
No, Musescore wont do that. But knowing the scanning market, as I used to work in scanning software, I doubt you'll get that anywhere for free.
No idea how good it is but: https://audiveris.kenai.com/docs/manual/releases.html Java app for Windows and Linux.
 11.
I did though watch some of Jack White's set on the iplayer and I must admit, I'm another in the "thought it was great" camp.
I read a review somewhere of the Black Keys set and it said it was a shame that they did not put in the same energy as Jack White. My thought to this was.....but the Black Keys sound like they are playing music and JW sounded like random noise, similar to the Jazz sketches on the Fast Show. But each to their own. BTW why did JW have Cardinal Richelieu on the slide guitar/theremin?
 12.
I suppose I could do some Googling myself on this, but what's the general feeling of the people from Glastonbury town and the neighbouring areas, do they approve / disapprove of the festival being held there each year? I've no doubt it brings money in the neighbourhood, but I'd sure as hell not look forward to nearly 200,000 descending on my town each year, and all the madness and chaos it brings.
Well I remember on the local news that they had a struggle to get a licence from the local council for a number of years. That is the excuse for the fencing (to ensure they don't exceed the agreed numbers) and the stricter anti-drugs stance. Other than that, I haven't heard much discent for a while but that might be on HTV and not Meridien news - or perhaps money talks and then people don't.......
 13.
Well considering that bears have roamed the earth for tens of thousands of years ( I'm not really sure when bears first evolved but it was a very long time ago) , that Kodiak island is one their ancient natural habitats and they were for a long time perfectly happy to thrive there, one does wonder whom the cull is "necessary" for? I'm sure the bears are quite content not to be slaughtered.
What culls are always for, humans. The bears would naturally keep to a population level to the resources present. However humans also require some of those resources and are a bit squishier than bears (just about everything in the animal kingdom is). I can't see Alaskans (aboriginal and europeans) vacating the island for the bears though.
 14.
That is error enough. Bears good, Metallica bad.
Fair enough and I can understand your opinion. The hunting of bears does rankle with me too, even though I have hunted in the past for pest control (magpies/rats) and food/pest control (rabbits). In the 70s-80s, rabbits were a large part of our diet (admittedly quite a bit of it was farmed rabbit). The show in question, is about Kodiak bears who live on an island (Kodiak) with a restricted biosphere. The cull is 'apparently' required to ensure the correct balance is maintained and some locals/aboriginal people do indeed eat bear. I wouldn't do it but it is certainly in his legal rights to do so and has nothing to do with his music IMHO.
 15.
It looks like Hetfield to me, but I am perfectly willing to believe that it isn't him if someone knows better.
Found one that wasn't the Daily Nail: http://www.thatsnonsense.com/view.php?id=1856&keywords=James%20Hetfield%20hunting%20brown%20bear%20picture
 16.
I didn't watch Metallica on purpose because someone sent me a photograph taken fairly recently of James Hetfield proudly standing next to the carcass of a large grizzly bear he had just murdered for sport.
Really? I have not found one 'genuine' picture of Hetfield doing that, plenty of a chap called Mr Giles incorrectly referenced as Hetfield. Not saying he doesn't like hunting but the only thing that he has genuinely done about this is narrate a film about bear hunting.
For anyone who doubts that this whole " spirit of Glastonbury" and "ethical festival" ethos is complete and utter bullshit , the fact that Michael Eavis and co are quite willing to endorse and handsomely reward such individuals surely incontrovertible proof to the contrary.
Eavis, the farmer. Pro badger culler and fox hunting advocate. Not sure of the conflict of interest this makes between him and Hetfield? Not sure how people think Glastonbury is a 'hippie' festival anymore anyway, even the local ones here that claim to be (Bestival?) are outrageously expensive.
 17.
You're welcome to try my 34" 5 Stringer pro series anytime, I'm just up the road from you.....we could just turn it upside down! I have one of the last Pro series Korean Star Basses and it was less than £700 from Thomann this time last year. The construction and finish is exemplary and whilst I have nylon flats on it, you will see on Youtube people slapping them with the original strings on.
I might well take you up on that kind offer some time.
 18. I seem to have missed the Pro Series Starbasses from Thomann. Only Rockbass versions are available now. Anyone got one and how do they stack up against the Pro Series versions?
 19.
Just had a trawl through there Facebook announcement thread looking for lefty info and found the price point is $749-$799. They do like nice though :-)
...and any lefty info?
 20. Proper Canadian Star Trek hero, the late great James Doohan (note missing finger, shot off by friendly fire during the D-Day landings):
 21.
In my sleep
Let it go.
 22.
The Frozen Soundtrack has made more of an appearance this afternoon than I'd have liked.....
But can you build a snowman?
 23. The Vintage Jaco copy seems to get favourable comments. http://www.thomann.de/gb/vintage_vj96mrjp_fretless.htm
