1. Its perfectly fine to use a shim, be it a thin piece of card or paper. All you need to do is ensure the element is solidly seated in the bridge wing, the vibration of the strings does the rest sound-wise
2. Bump with a cheeky £25 price drop to £525
3. I owned the 4string version of this bass (with rare dalbergia negra board) and it was an absolute delight with an amazingly flexible preamp. Only sold it as I was obsessed about getting a year of birth Fender. Good job for my bank account that I don't play 5'ers!
4. My word that is beautiful
5. check out this old thread. I had the same bass and used a K&K floating bridge pickup. Only thing is it was prone to feedback at higher volume. Sounded great at low volume though http://basschat.co.uk/topic/200373-best-pickup-for-acoustic-no-double-bass/page__p__1989351__hl__k__fromsearch__1#entry1989351
6. No chance. More than 10 available
7. Carrying on the Alembic theme, I fancy a Brown bass or Stanley Clarke ... but would have to weigh under 10 pounds given my dodgy back
8. here's a pic to show the excellent condition of these strings
9.
Where is the bass located please?
Andy's profile says he's in Norwich
10. Sorry Chris, I am well sorted for rigs (got 3 already, one of which is only not for sale as our band's guitarist uses it.... )
11. I have just had an offer to trade my Breedlove for a really beautiful Fender P but unfortunately the other bass is too heavy for my glass back. So just to clarify, I really can't cope with anything above 9.5 pounds in weight if anyone is thinking of a trade offer.
12. Reminds me of my all-time favourite double bass video with that wonderful old gent Milt Hinton. Which gives me an excuse to post it again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFTqVHEJZ0A
13. Much as I love the sound and feel of these premier steel-wound gut strings, I have decided to move on my Oliv A/D/G strings. By way of background I bought the D/G off BassChat in used but excellent condition from Laurence Bassadder (there's no breaks at all in windings, silks are in vgc). I bought the A brand new from StringZone about a month ago and it matches really well and has decent sustain on my bass ... despite some of the naysayers who only recommend the D/G. Together they cost me £170. I would sell them as a package for £150 posted. Would be £270 new from thestringzone.co.uk, so this is a serious (£120/c.40%) saving http://www.thestring...categories/oliv PS, Why sell you ask? Simply that I would prefer more stable tuning. I only get to play 30 minutes max a day and often just a couple of minutes on weekdays, when not rehearsing/gigging with my band, so a more stable non-gut set would suit me better. Basically I am lazy! If I were a full-time player or had more time to practice it would be different. Also if I were an arco player (these are known to be excellent for arco) it would be different. Instead, I have put on a set of Velvet Blues on my 3/4 flatback and I have a set of Presto Nylonwound Lights as a backup set. These do gut-sounding pretty well (not as nice as the Olivs, obviously) but are much more stable tuning-wise. PPS, obviously you would need to match with an E, but the Oliv E is renowned as being largely thud, which is why I used a Spirocore Mittel E.
14. Hey Nick, I've got the bigger brother of this amp, the MarkBass Mini CMD 121P combo and extension cab, for my Jazz bass I also have an Acoustic Image Ten2 combo which I would probably sell but for the fact my band's guitarist uses it for all our gigs
15. Try me with near offer
16. Well this worked out really well at rehearsal and gig last week. Very pleased. Here's a vid with me playing through this (part onstage sound and part DI from the Headway preamp to PA) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIN3XpZWlFE
17. Price cut to £70 posted, thats less than half price for a barely used set
