  1. @ikay is the man to talk to about the bridge position. Personally, I wouldn't move it. There's probably not enough wriggle room to move the bridge forward without plugging the original holes, as the new holes would have to be so close. It would also leave tell tale marks in the finish on the top when the bridge moves forward maybe 5mm. What I would consider however, is having the bridge removed by a luthier, and if any screws shear off, having them drilled out and the holes properly plugged to take the new screws. To me, this is just maintenance, it's not modification, and all would be concealed under the bridge. Whereabouts are you? I'm interested to know who is going to refret it, as I have a '73 Jazz in need of a refret. Rob Edit: Looking again at your bridge position, it's not bad at all. I have two Jazz basses where the saddles are right at the very front of the baseplate.
  2. Great thread @andytoad Re the saddles, I spotted the grubscrews too, but the saddles might be original. My '73 P had seized and rusted grubscrews which I had to replace too. I just happened to buy correct slotted head ones rather than allen key ones. You also appear to have two longer intonation screws rather than the factory supplied one screw on the G string. There are a few early 70's basses with the bridge a bit further back than it should be, hence needing the longer screws. I have a stash of 1 3/4" ones for exactly this purpose if you need any. Tell us more about the pickguard and why you want to replace it, is it definitely not original? Rob
  3. Isaac bought a pickup from me this week. No hassle, no haggle, all good. Thanks, Rob
  4. Great little cab, in excellent condition, with slip cover. The project I bought this for has ended, and I haven't used it in a while, so it's now available. 2x8 inch Faital Pro speakers, 400w handling, front ported, 12kg, Speakon & 1/4 jack connectors. Price includes insured UK shipping, but would prefer collection from Morecambe for a reduction in price. Thanks, Rob

  5. I'm glad you bought it, it has prevented me buying it! I think this one deserves its own thread to follow progress. I'd be keen to see more of this one and its journey back to life. Rob

  7. That's a cool bass, and I don't think it would take much TLC to make it playable. I'm going to say '73 though. Rob
  8. Also, that's a very generous offer, thanks.
  9. We're exchanging texts right now, he's going to have a look.
  10. Sorely tempted. Blimey, hard to resist though. I have one already, and two early 400RB's, so it makes no sense, but when did sense come into it? I have alerted a mate on here who will probably buy this. Rob
  11. @lee650 I always thought these were 760FS! It seems they are a little lighter. If you want to try some lower tension flats, both my P's are strung with LaBella Low Tension Flats. I'm also intrigued by the new band! Rob
  12. Jim bought a pedal off me last week. Good comms, highly recommended. Thanks, Rob
  13. Blimey @ash, I'm sorely tempted to buy this just to put it on a stand in the living room and just look at it! For info, @ash is ten minutes away from me, and therefore so is this bass ! Rob
  14. I'm considering withdrawing this bass if it doesn't sell. I've just re-strung it with D'Addario Nickel Rounds, and it really is a great instrument. The longer I have it, the more likely a project will crop up where I'll need it again! Rob
  15. Paddy bought a pedal off me this week. He was very patient with some issues I had with shipping. It arrived in the end! Cheers, Rob
  16. Paul bought a stand off me this week. All good, cheers. Rob
  17. Paul bought my Mono Bass Sleeve this week. Good to deal with, recommended. Thanks, Rob
  18. Rob bought a few bits and pieces of me recently. He's a good egg. Cheers, Rob
  19. Dunc bought a lead off me recently. It's not the first time we've traded, always a pleasure. Thanks, Rob
  20. Andy bought some stands off me recently. Great chap to deal with. Thanks, Rob
  21. No problem Rob, It's Quay Fabrications in Lancaster - https://www.quayfabs.co.uk/ The place is rather rough and ready, and there's sparks flying and torches burning stuff.
  22. Thread update. The keyboard player in my band recommended a local metal fabrication workshop to me. I had a chat with the boss and he seemed keen to help me out, so I took along a side from a 400RB-I with rack ears, and a side from my 400RB-II which didn't have rack ears. The sides on the MKI and MKII are NOT interchangeable. I explained what I wanted, which was sides for the MK-II but with the addition of rack ears like the ones on the example MK-I sides. Anyway, I collected them today, and it's worked out well. Here's a few pics, and I must say they are looking rather sexy in their matching SKB Roto racks. Cheers, Rob
