  1. Mike just bought my LMB-3. I wouldn’t hesitate to deal with Mike again. Thanks, Rob
  2. That does look nice Tony. It’s slightly cheaper than the ‘73 Jazz I bought from them last August too, but I suppose that’s down to the guard. It would be interesting to know if there are holes under the guard for the tug bar in the earlier position. Rob
  3. I bought Peter’s Nux wireless system yesterday and he delivered it to my home on the same day! Obviously we had to have a bit of a chinwag. I’m very glad to have met you Peter. Rob
  4. I “intend” to use it with the BF cab. It may look like an early 70’s Bassman, but it’s been rebuilt from scratch by Martin Garton (Gartone Amps), and the only original parts now are the chassis, cabinet, mains transformer and choke. Yes, it’s still a 50w head based on the Fender circuit, but it’s essentially a new amp internally. It does sound really good through the Super Compact.
  5. Having been asked to join a newly forming band a few months ago, we’ve now got two hours worth of good material and a dozen gigs in the diary, the first being on Good Friday. I assembled my gear at home this week to do some assessment. I think the two 10’s with the Bergantino are reliably ample and are going to get the most use, but the Bassman has a great vintage valve tone and I’m hoping it will work too if I’m DI’d into FOH as well. Rob
  6. I’m sad to read this. We never met in person, but we started exchanging messages when he discovered I’d bought his old ‘73 Jazz. He contacted me just to say hi, and we talked about the backstory of the bass and that I was only the third owner. I’m a few years older than Nick, it’s a proper reality check. Too young. RIP Nick.
  7. As per title, all prices inc. P&P to UK mainland. Edit: reducing prices, entertaining offers SOLD: TU-2, very good condition, no box, £40 £35 ODB-3, some chips, no box, £40 £35 SYB-5, well used but sounds great, no box, £60 £55 OC-3, super condition, boxed, £80 £70 SOLD: LMB-3, super condition, boxed, £60 BCB-30 board, good condition, with Boss power supply and good quality patch cables, £40 £35 Cheers, Rob
  8. I have a 1987 MIJ Fender PB-62 RI which I bought from Bass Bros. It was immaculate and only £850 I think. The neck is almost identical to my '73 P bass B neck, lovely neck.
  9. Indeed a good price. It's cheaper than the '78 I bought last year which looks almost identical to it. @walshy would probably help you with the non original parts. It's not too heavy either, although mine is a really lightweight one, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. Rob
  10. When I bought it I knew it had been heavily modded/messed with over the years. It's been rebuilt by Martin Garton (Gartone Amps). To paraphrase a famous quote, "blast off and nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure". So that's we've done. The amp has been entirely gutted, new eyelet board, pots, valve bases, jacks, switches etc, redesigned circuit, increased voltages and filtering, slide switches are now mid boosts, Heyboer Twin Reverb output transformer (big iron and now 8 ohms to match my cab), NOS 7581A output valves, Telefunken pre-amps. It's whisper quiet in operation and has a great tone for bass through the Barefaced Super Compact.
  11. I know, you’ve said it before when I’ve talked about this amp. But, this is a ground up re-imagining of a Bassman, it’s shaking the house and staying clean up to around 5 on the volume at the moment. It might get louder, but I haven’t had the courage to try it yet.
  12. I do like simple and easy, and these look good. Thank you for your generous offer, but at these prices I might just get one for the gig bag anyway. https://www.showbitz.co.uk/product/orchid-electronics-classic-di-box/
  13. The Countryman looks a cracking bit of kit, but I can only find one place to buy it, and it's £336 plus shipping. I like nice kit, and I don't mind paying for it, but this seems like a rather luxurious purchase which will get limited use. https://ambersound.co.uk/collections/countryman/products/cou-dt85
  14. I'm reading some conflicting info about the need for a passive or active DI? I play strictly passive Fender P and J basses. Reading about the Radial stuff, they are saying I need an active DI because I don't have an active bass. This relies on there being phantom power supplied from the desk. Confused!
  15. I've just had a look at those. The fact that I can run it between my amp and cab, then send the amp signal to the desk is good. But that would be a full range signal uncoloured by a cab. I imagine there would be more highs present than I'm hearing on stage. I gues that why you said best run with a FRFR cab. I'm running it with a Barefaced Super Compact, no tweeter, so I think it's rolling some highs off. Whatever I choose, I also don't want it to colour/affect the signal from my bass to the amp. I just want a nice signal to send to FOH. It's not straightforward is it !
  16. Ok, so please bear with me, this is something I don't have any experience of. My vintage Fender Bassman is back home after a total ground up rebuild, and it sounds pretty darn good. I'm thinking of making this my main amp for small gigs with the blues band. Now, I'm a very basic sort of player - Bass -> Amp. nothing else. But I do see that I will be required to DI into a PA on occasion for extra reinforcement, and there's talk of a gig at the end of the month like this. My old Bassman doesn't have a DI out like my modern amps, so my initial thoughts are that I've seen lots of PA guys provide a DI box which splits your signal between your amp and the desk. Amp on stage for monitoring, DI signal to the desk for PA. But their DI boxes are rather generic, so I imagine the desk is getting a signal very similar to just plugging my bass directly into a channel on the desk. I'm wondering if I need my own pre-amp, which is a bit nicer sounding, to do the split, and then I can send something worthwhile to the front of house. I'd like to just sit something on top if my amp and forget about it. Thoughts on a postcard please! Cheers, Rob
  17. I like dealing with them too. Two basses so far, both good experiences.
  18. Same for me too, Chrome on Windows 11. I haven't used the Number of Strings filter before, but I get the same result as you. I have used the Brand filter often, and it used to work, but it's throwing up the same error. I reckon they have a website issue.
  19. So, I have taken this one forward. The Facebook seller turns out to be a Parish Councilor and possibly an upstanding member of society, albeit a bit s**t at Facebook and apparently inept in the art of postage. He packed the cab, sent me pics, weight and dimensions. I did have to point out that a single layer of thin carboard around the cab would not cut the mustard when it came to actual shipping, and that he should consider what potential trials and tribulations the cab may encounter on it's journey north. After providing some guidance, the cab has now been wrapped in a sufficient amount of bubblewrap and boxed again, with pictures sent to me for approval. I have still had to book my own shipping and send him a label, but I believe the cab is now on route. I may, perhaps, be in possession of a new cab in the next day or two, we'll see. Why do people find it so hard to "adult" these days? Rob
  20. I do sell things on Facebook, but I try to be as reassuring as possible. Even WhatsApp video called with a potential buyer to demo an amp recently. Right now, there’s a cab on Facebook I would like to buy, the seller is responsive, but wants me to arrange the courier, but also can’t yet tell me the dimensions or weight. It’s not on Basschat either. I don’t know if it’s worth the worry. Rob
  21. I could write quite a long piece about this, but it's all out there to see now. I knew Justin quite well, and his Dad Rick. I used to deal with them quite a bit in the 90's and early 2000's. Mostly old amps, amp components and speakers. Only later did the full extent of their deceit come to light. They actually carried out/arranged robberies (the one in Italy was huge), they faked gear on an industrial scale, Dumble amps, plexi Marshalls, custom colour Fenders, Korina Gibsons, it must have run into £millions. There was a fake Marshall factory, with all the head cabinets out in the sunshine fading and being kicked about to relic them. There was even a Chip Shop Salt Shaker with vintage dust in it to shake dust inside the cabs.
  22. See my post above. Yes. If any of you are unaware of the Harrisons I would beg you to do some research. They are crooks, through and through. I personally know people who have worked for them. They had a reputation of being able to source anything..... and they could.....because they frickin made it
  23. Hmm. Isn't this place another front for Justin Harrison? edit: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/09481164/officers
  24. I did it the other night, late in the evening after a "couple of glasses of wine". I still may have to honour that one, we'll see. If I do, I will get a bargain, a classic, and something I may use, but I don't really need it !
