  1. Have you got a smart phone? The voice memo app is great for spontaneous recording of ideas.
  2. Is Pino’s rusted? I’m guessing no?
  3. It’s a weird thing this relic’ing. I’ve seen quite a few fifty year old plus instruments, they could pretty much have passed for being from this century. I do know that’s not always the case, but I think the abandoned in the garden shed for forty years look that some relics have is a little over the top.
  4. You don’t mention how you’re going to play the songs. Not meaning to come across wrongly, but a memory stick is only a storage device, it won’t play the songs. Have you got a smart phone? If you have then download them onto that, then play them from that. You just need a mini jack from your headphone outlet into the mini jack aux in.
  5. Music was the only thing I was ever really any good at. It was all I really wanted to do, I did A levels intending to be a vet, but my heart wasn’t in it though. Gigs just took over. Then I started teaching. Then 8 years ago I decided I wanted to teach music at a higher level, and get better as a musician, so I auditioned for ICMP and got a place on their BMus, which lead to me then going on to do a masters, now a PhD.
  6. I had an interview arranged with Access to music for a lecturer in music. They cancelled an hour beforehand and never got back to me. I’ve since heard a few people say they’re not good to work for.
  7. You have to sometimes. You should always put a 90 degree bend in the string before cutting it, that helps prevent it from unravelling. Allow about three turns around the tuner, bend the string then cut about a centimetre past the bend.
  8. I didn’t know he’d used a Wal. It’s not an instrument I’d associate with him.
  9. I’ve still got 7 years left on mine. I believe you can buy burgundy covers for the blue ones 😁
  10. That’s it isn’t it? The new passport is in reality a sign of regression, and a loss opportunity and freedom. Previously we had the right to live, work, study, travel freely and retire in anyone of thirty counties, also to receive free medical care whilst there. We now only have those freedoms in one country.
  11. Blue passports printed in Poland, or is it France? Hopefully they’ve got the words ‘printed in Poland’ in a prominent place, in a bold font.
  12. That’s changed in the recent immigration rules though, hence this thread.
  13. That’s what I keep saying, it’s across the board, the whole of the artistic industry.
  14. I wonder if our perception of working in the arts has a bearing in our reaction to this, ie, it not being a ‘proper’ job? I’m pretty sure there would uproar if the government introduced something that impacted the construction industry, which employs a similar number of people, and raises a similar amount for the country’s economy.
  15. A friend I was at uni with moved there last year. His wife is American which helped, but he still had to overcome massive hurdles.
  16. The creative industry employees some half a million people, that’s as many as the construction industry. It brings £110 billion into the economy. In contrast, fishing employs 11,000 full-time people, and delivers £1 billion to the economy. Which industry is being listened to, which ignored? It also has wider implications. Without going off topic, I’m a musician it’ll affect me travelling to perform in whatever guise. I’m also an academic, my PhD is practical based. Academia relies heavily on travelling and meeting people, especially so where the two fields meet.
  17. Very. They’re also less likely to get knocked, or in my house; Joshed, Josh being my 5 year old nephew, Joshed being what tends to happen to items he touches, somehow they’re never quite the same again 😂. My cat hides in the airing cupboard when she hears him.
  18. You’re braver than me 😊
  19. It was one of a lot of possible outcomes they considered, depending on what the final relationship is. It was one they dismissed though. If as seems likely there’s holdups on the border, then they’ll likely leave anyway. Sunderland has already lost the new X-trail. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/business/business-news/nissan-xtrail-japan-sunderland-plant-15773643 I'm personally not too bothered about them, they voted how they voted. My concern is the creative sector, which is where I work, that’s where my PhD research lies.
  20. Nissan dismissed that as being incorrect. It’s off topic too, risking the thread from being locked.
  21. I’m guessing the giveaway might be when the luggage is x-rayed at the train station. Boarding a Eurostar you have to go through both that country’s immigration then the UK immigration. It’s currently a very simple procedure, a lot easier than the last time i flew, but it’s still there, and likely to get more robust; don’t forget that the immigration lanes will be changing. If they see that you’re carrying musical equipment and a bundle of cassettes, CDs and vinyl, then put 2+2 together, you risk I guess being refused entry.
  22. I keep saying it, but this isn’t just about bands and musicians, it’s the whole creative sector; which according to the guardian yesterday is worth £110 billion, far more than fishing for example. Something I posted earlier was how this is going to reduce opportunity for UK youngsters. Previously anyone of us who had a mind to could have worked anywhere in anyone of thirty countries. If they didn’t then fine, but that opportunity was there. From January 2021 the number of countries available for them to work in, without the need for a visa, or obtaining a job beforehand will be one. I mentioned DJs, it’s not something I’ve any experience in, but I do know DJing is far more than just playing a record, it’s hugely popular, and it makes up a big part of the creative industry’s income. It’s focused in certain areas though, and I don’t think either Butlins in Minehead or the Ball room in Blackpool are part of that scene? I wonder how many kids had dreams to be the next big star or even to just work in some manner in one of the big clubs in Ibiza? These jobs will go to locals or people from other EU countries. I’ve never heard of any of these names, most seem to be British though. http://www.deephouseamsterdam.com/ibiza/10-dj-legends-of-ibiza/
