  1. Bet he didn’t play anything like this though.
  2. You’ve probably already done so, but check the battery in the bass. The number of times I’ve worried something is wrong my amp, only to then realise my stupidity and it’s the battery that’s gone.
  3. Set the VLE and VPF controls to off, then set the other controls to flat, and start from there. I’ve been using MB for years, it seriously shouldn’t sound dull.
  4. Then this is for you. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-made-double-neck-electric-bass-guitar-6-and-4-string/133395646550?hash=item1f0f000856:g:VkAAAOSwznZdrvJh I have to say, it’s got to be the ugliest thing I’ve seen.
  5. The 4ths is basically the notes on the first fret on your bass starting on the E string, going up and continuing, so F, Bb, Eb, Ab etc. The circle of 5ths is it in reverse, starting on the G string. It’s fourths ascending, fifths descending, or returning.
  6. I was looking at the Nordic essentials one on Amazon, it mentions bass. It’s for a 5 string E to C tuned instrument.
  7. No, I didn’t find it awkward, you’re not aware that the app is doing anything.
  8. NinJam works well. It’s included with Reaper. I’ve used it to play with another bassist, and with a laptop ensemble from uni. A friend had used it a few times with his jazz ensemble. It takes a few minutes to set up, but they all do. It doesn’t work to remove latency, it actually adds latency to the signal when needed, to bring whoever is out, back in.
  9. I think on the whole musicians are quite adaptable, resourceful and innovative people. You’ve only got to look on social media to see how people have started using technology to continue gigging and collaborating etc. Music is what we do, a large part of that is performing with others, so I’m sure we’ll all adapt to whatever the requirements are that enable both ourselves and others to continue doing that, whilst remaining healthy.
  10. I bought stuff off them last week. It arrived next day. The shop is closed, I believe there’s something on their website about email and phone calls; could be wrong about that. They are still filling orders and shipping though.
  11. James Jamerson at number one?
  12. It’s allowed if they live with you. Though you might get complaints if your amorous activities result in crushing a shelf full of hobnobs.
  13. Someone I know organises a jazz club. He’s written off 2020 gigwise. Some here seem pretty sure that they’re going to be gigging later this year, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention about venues actually allowing it. How would a pub landlord’s insurance stand if the instruction is that we remain 2 metres apart, and they’re booking gigs leading to a situation where that instruction goes out the window?
  14. You get that much space 😁 you lucky devil.
  15. In the short term social distancing is here to stay. That’s according to the Chris Whitty on the news just now. How would a pub accommodate a gig?
  16. I’m told we have by us. Supermarkets have one-way routes around the shops, and marks showing 2 metre spacing.
  17. According to Chris Whitty social distancing is here to stay for the remainder of the year; at least. So 2 metres between band mates, and each member of the audience. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/22/uk-will-need-social-distancing-until-at-least-end-of-year-says-whitty
  18. I think Fretmeister’s analysis is probably quite accurate, at least based on what I’ve read. You’re quite right too though, I doubt many venues will successfully weather the storm. Similarly wedding venues, and the myriad other small businesses that artists rely on for gigs.
  19. The transport secretary warned a couple of days ago not to book any summer holidays. So I think people are being a tad optimistic if they’re thinking they’ll be gigging in the summer.
  20. It’ll be next year, that’s my educated guess, based on what other countries are doing. For instance Germany aren’t allowing anything with more than 100 people until August 31st. They haven’t had it as bad as us. Social distancing is going to be with us for some considerable time to come. Football matches; if they take place, will probably be behind closed doors, so there’s no way they’ll let festivals take place.
  21. I think you’ll be waiting a very, very long time for a vaccine. They were warning today that there might never be one.
  22. It’s the chord produced that’s minor. Just using those notes from that major scale and producing a chord starting on each note you produce these chord types: C major7 - C, E, G, B D minor 7 - D, F, A, C E minor 7 - E, G, B, D F major 7 - F, A, C, E G dominant 7 - G, B, D, F A minor 7 - A, C, E, G B minor 7 b5 - B, D, F, A Same chord types in any major scale. Just the roots would change. Get a pen and paper and write out the notes from the C major scale, across two octaves. You take alternate notes, so 1 (root), 3 (third), 5 (fifth), 7 (seventh). Do that from each note and you’ll see what I’ve done.
  23. What he’s done with the chords is something called harmonisation. Maybe just concentrate on the scale itself for now?
  24. Thought so. It sounds perfect in this context. Very agressive and driving.
