I’m not sure I’d risk a plastic one. Have you asked them what kind of weight it will carry? I just bought this. I think it’s fantastic, it’ll certainly take the weight of even the heaviest bass. I just need someone to fix it to the wall for me.

The head of the CBSO was saying similar on TV a while ago. Of course a symphony orchestra doesn’t travel alone, like a rock band they have all manner of support staff travelling with them. There’s also opera companies, ballet companies too. They’re not sitting at home when they aren’t performing in London or Birmingham. These various cultural enterprises have a fantastic reputation abroad, they’re ambassadors for the country. What a sad loss if they’re prevented from continuing.

I have it on good authority, that you can use sovereignty as a substitute for any other ingredient in a recipe.

I believe it’s partly a culture war - I’m not the only person saying that either, I’m reading more and more people saying similar - they hate the arts, they don’t like artists, and they really dislike musicians.

I believe from what I’ve read elsewhere, that you need to apply to each country that you’re visiting. It wouldn’t solve the carnet issue, neither would it solve the VAT issue - payable upfront on entry to each country on merchandise.

This was reported in most papers last week. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/markets/eu-share-trading-flees-london-on-first-day-after-full-brexit-1.4450561?mode=amp

Did you pay VAT when you bought it? If yes then that would be why there were no other charges levied. They have a UK presence, they’ll therefore be VAT registered here.

MPs are talking about it too. There is apparently going to be a debate in parliament this coming week, to try and force a u-turn. I guess if it wasn’t something the shower of ineptitude could reverse, then they wouldn’t be debating it. In other words, yes it was their decision.

Yes me, though as a solo performer and academically.

It’s not just musicians of course. There’s quite a few other arts related occupations affected too - DJs for example.

Using phone as a multitrack recorder: technical question
ambient replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
If you had an iPhone then I’d recommend GarageBand. It’s an interesting process coming up with a solution for something like this. The problem is really, we’re just so spoiled for choice nowadays with gear and techy stuff. I do a lot of field recording for my PhD. I spent hours last year working out how to transfer recorded sounds from a H2N - a marvellous little recorder, very easy to use, and unobtrusive - onto an iPad.- 28 replies

As I think many people are finding out, what they saw advertised and what actually arrived are two quite different things. It’s like buying a villa on the Côte d’Azur, and ending up with a rickety old caravan overlooking a sewage works. Though many are quite understandably in denial, insisting that this is exactly what they wanted. I’ve been incredibly lucky, and performed at some marvellous events in Europe. These are small events, and just don’t have the budget to cover the increased expenditure. It works the other way too, there are some incredibly talented artists now precluded from touring in the UK. I’ve also been fortunate to have been given the chance to do talks on and present my PhD work abroad. This too has now ended, unless your field of study falls into a very limited area, then you need a work permit. My university’s music department just can’t afford it. I find the whole thing utterly depressing and tbh, rather pointless.

It’s Bedworth, enough said really. -
It might be worth asking your GP. Tinnitus can be a symptom of something. A guy I know had Covid in April last year, he’s still suffering from the long term effects.

So the free shipping has stopped?

This is quite interesting, apologies if it’s already been shared. I guess these businesses will have researched and realised it’s not economically viable to trade with the UK - at least not at the current time. https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/brexit-news/westminster-news/eu-firms-stop-uk-deliveries-due-to-brexit-6881640?fbclid=IwAR2CWZuBBPUJCn9rbbw7wITjTL424aSFsgwgxKRBW7RL4r_Hh86p64ID9Ns Is it also affecting UK based businesses? If someone manufactures something that they want to sell to Italy, if the item’s value is less than a certain amount, do they have to register for VAT in Italy?

The problem with goods now entering and leaving the UK - particularly from Ireland and NI, is why DFDS have recently started operating a new shipping route from Ireland direct to France. Previously some 150,000 trucks and lorries a year used the UK as a land bridge, between the Irish Sea ports and Dover. Whilst good news environmentally, reducing the number of lorries on the roads, it’s not good news economically. They’d probably have refuelled at UK garages, the drivers would certainly have bought food and drink during their journeys. That’s a loss to the local economies, and ultimately a loss to the UK treasury.
