1.
I've maybe not made myself clear enough. The crux of the matter, to me, is that: anyone producing goods and/or services should be paid for their work. That's simple enough, I'd have thought. Once the work is finished, however, and has been paid for, then that's the end if it for that person. If someone else is providing a service, then of course it should be paid for. So, to answer your question, It doesn't bother me that Spotify, or whoever, are providing a service, they should be paid for it. The musicians that have finished their work, and are now either resting by the pool or, even better, creating even more music (and getting paid for it...) don't deserve paying for what they've done in the past. I see no difference between a sportsman/woman getting paid for their efforts whilst they're practicing their sport, or an architect designing an edifice, a bus driver and a musician. All should be paid for their work. I'd include training in there. I wouldn't include monies for doing nothing, once the work is finished, that's all. I don't believe that any one person on this planet can possibly be worth a million. Nobody, whatever their role or responsibility. Bill Gates, the Pope, the King of Morocco, 50 Cents... None of them. No, it's not jealousy, it's my sense of values and justice which differ from others, that's all. I value the time of a refuse collector as having the same worth, and so value, as a top surgeon, bank clerk or composer.
It's not work though is it ? A piece of music that you've composed, arranged, recorded and produced, possibly over many, many hours and days, or even weeks or months, is a product. I hate to use that term, but once it's finished, that's what it becomes. It's like if you design something and build it, then someone else comes along and copies your design, and sells the same thing under their own name, and makes loads of money.
 2. No, you have to order direct. Though there is a really great and very active Facebook group, and there's a forum site called Stickist, there's usually a good supply of used sticks advertised on there.
 3. In excellent condition, covered in Velcro. Comes with a soft case. £40 or trade for a junior model. Includes postage.
 4.
So as a postscript to this I tried to pay my £20 annual subscription and the only way you can do this is via PayPal. So, I go through the screen filling in all the fields and at the end it tells me I'm trying to use an existing card number with a different password. It then occurs to me that I did indeed set up a Paypal account some 8 or so years ago and I'm pretty sure I did it in order to buy the bass, (from Ebay), that I am now trying to sell. Can I remember the password? Can I buggery! I find this sort of thing so utterly deflating and depressing.
Is there no option to pay as a guest using Paypal (without signing up for it) ?

 7.
No! Do you have to pay then?
If it's over £50 yep.
 8. Did you pay ? I'm told that's the reason you can't see sale ads sometimes.
 9.
Karfler you highlight an important point through your experience. If you use a payal account, you should ALWAYS use it with a credit card and NEVER a bank account The credit card gives you an extra level of protection as your experience highlights - had you used paypal with a bank account it is doubtful whether you would have got your money back
A debit card works too, even though it's coming out of your bank account. I bought something last year from eBay, and paid using Paypal. This was as a guest though, because I didn't have a Paypal account. So when the item didn't arrive, and the guy didn't reply to my messages and started to receive other negative feedback from buyers, Paypal didn't want to know. My bank got my money back within a few days though. I just had to send them screenshots of the transaction pages and his eBay account.
 10. Someone mentioned above about the level of noise from TV sets. We live in a ridiculously noisy society. Time was when cutting your lawn you used a push thing, one neighbour still does, then raked up the cuttings. All done reasonably quietly. Nowadays you use an electric one or maybe a petrol one. The noise these things create is ridiculous. My one neighbour then uses a petrol driven blower thing for his cuttings, what a racket that produces. In fact my neighbour who uses an old fashioned manual lawn mower, then rakes up his cuttings, does his lawns quicker than those who use modern noisy ones, he has less to pack away afterwards too. Power washers for washing cars, what's wrong with a bucket and sponge ? Thing is, yes bass players need to be considerate at home, but I think society as a whole needs to be.
 11.
Indeed, I think I actually like the film for Drive even more, but the music for Raven just hit that special place that some tunes do. Mr Wilson and Porcupine Tree were, for me, one of those chance discoveries recently that I instantly fell in love with!
There's an orchestral version on the live 'drive home' album, there's also a live version on there too.
 12.
This video is long, but well worth 7 minutes out of your day, the first time I saw it I had to gasp for air at the end, as I'd been so transfixed. To my very uncultured brain it fused the beauty of classical music with the song craft of a prog-legend, Steven Wilson performing The Raven That Refused To Sing. The visuals are quite beautiful too. http://youtu.be/u4XevlloPY4
That's a brilliant piece of film. There's one for the song drive home by the same animator Jessica Cope, that's really nice too. I think Raven is probably my favourite track from the album.
 13. Is there a room that's the opposite side from your neighbour ? Ignore this if you're in a terraced house I had the opposite problem to you. I was in the room above our living room, and next to our neighbour. I was being disturbed by both. I tend to just play through studio monitors, or headphones so my 'noise' wasn't a problem, it was the sound of my parent's TV from the room below, and the neighbours classic rock that was disturbing me. I moved to the spare room, a bit smaller, but the walls are all exterior walls, and it's just the garage below.
 14.
Makes me cry. I have no idea why, but it does. Every time.
Thanks, I was wondering if classical music was allowed ! I love this, have done for years. I listen to classic FM at home, and if this comes on then I have to stop whatever I'm doing and listen to it. It's in my favourite key too Bb minor (bit sad I guess, having a favourite key). Here's a slightly different arrangement of it, but never the less, still absolutely moving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKrxPTePXEQ
 15. I could do Oxford, it's not far from me by train. I do play 'normal' bass too

 19.
There is a stage bug that has a mini Jack built in especially for laptops actually! http://www.radialeng...stagebugsb5.php

There are some new cheaper Radials as well as the JDI - the passive Stage Bug looks like a good cost effective one and is pretty compact. The simple passive Pro DI is great ( I recently saw a lot of them at a very high end recording studio). Edit - it may be easier to use two small passive boxes, and send two lines, rather than trying to get two inputs to balance front of house.
Thanks guys, they look great. Would there be any benefit to using 2 separate things ?
 20.
Who is Anil Prasad? Both articles read like they're written by someone that doesn't understand either the flow of finances through the music industry or general consumer spending habits. The streaming services are lead by the rights holders not the other way round as suggested - nothing happens without the rights holders consent & many of the things that do happen are directly requested by them (yes this includes the independents). Suggesting a huge monthly fee is sheer madness - streaming services came about as a way for the rights holders to monetise internet music consumption after years of fighting against it. They were originally seen as a way to ween people off illegal downloads, hoping that they would first stream then move on to purchasing downloads. The 9.99 a month premium generally came about from the thinking that people are willing to pay the same as 1 album per month. In the years that followed streaming services spent (and still are spending) millions of dollars trying to get listeners into the services - for every free trial you see given out for 1/3/6/12 months etc... the rights holders are getting paid, what the artists are getting paid obviously depends on contracts (as with the rest of the industry) some will be getting paid a decent amount, others won't with most somewhere in the middle. Though saying all that (now going slightly off topic), what I think is being missed is that recorded music sales is not the future earnings for musicians - those times are long gone. The money should be coming from performance & artist partnerships - in an age where everything is available instantly & often free a bigger premium should be being put on the magic of being in the room when music is being created, space is limited so cost can go up - recorded music is really just a marketing tool to get people interested. 21.
I wonder just how many orchestra-pit players have an equivalent pension..? Hmm...
True, but how many orchestral players write a number 1 christmas record ? (As bad as it is )
 22.
I think musicians should be paid for playing music, not for people listening to it. One doesn't pay every time one looks at an artist's painting or sculpture. Live performance, fine; the audience pays. Recordings should be paid for on a 'one off' basis. To me, all this stuff about 'intellectual property' is a scam. Actors in films get paid for their performance, not for the folks going to the cinema. Yes, I was a professional musician for some years. It's become a cow for milking, imo, where folks get money even when sitting by the pool or doing their shopping. An unpopular view, I know, but there it is.
I'm just watching a program about hit singles through the years. They're interviewing the guy from Slade about their Christmas hit, he calls it the bands pension.
 23.
Do a search? Otherwise, Sansamp/MXR/DHA/Darkglass/Aguilar.
Yep, looked at those. It needs to have 2 inputs, one for my macbook. I'm looking at one of these now - http://www.radialeng.com/r2011/proav.php
