1. Cheers for linky Ou7shined. That's rather tasty (tho I still prefer the Super J). Did you do that Mr Wazoo? I wonder if the following will be a Super Bongo?
2. I play Electro acoustic & it's either straight into the PA (sometimes with a stage monitor) or plugged into my combo (Markbass 2x10).
3. What about them using a couple of multi fx pedals? It'd be a much simpler & cheaper option for them to have 2 floor pods or similar.
4. Hmmm, tricky one. How about a 2nd pedal board for simpleness? It sounds like you need something that works like a switchable effects loop that wont cut either channel. I'd PM Max
5. I think he's compressed the wife! BTW when I said I found it took away from my dynamics, I was trying to do what the OP was wanting one for & to get it to have that much effect to try & raise/flatten the notes is going to kill a lot of the dynamics (that's basically what he's trying to achieve in a way I suppose). & they was all sub £150 comps that I was using.
6. If you're not cutting thru then you might need to increase the mids on the amp.
7. Why not trade the bass for it's fretted cuz? Ironically, I'm contemplating defretting my Ibby! If I had a fretted jazz I'd swap necks with you.
8. Get a small silent runner. A couple of KVa is gonna be fine & just about any wee silent runner you choose is gonna be more than ample.
9. I use a Markbass 2x10 combo for everything. Loud enough to use without PA when needed & light enough to carry with one hand. I tried a lot of combos & rigs about 3 years ago & I ended up buying this blind from the Bass Merchant. It was probably the only piece of kit on my list that I couldn't try out & I'm really glad I took the chance as I prefer it over any of the other sub £1k rigs that I tried. It's probably the loudest combo I've used & blows the crap out of the Trace 4x10 combo that I was using before hand. I wouldn't say no to trying a Barefaced with something like an LMII tho.
10. I'd go with either a small head (such as Markbass, Genz Benz etc) & a Barefaced (or similar) or a decent combo & just use it for everything. Using different gear for different venues only results in inconsistent sounds.
11.
Played in a band once with a furniture maker that chopped fingers off in a saw. Fortunately he was a trombonist and the fingers were on his "slide" hand. He is now able to hook whatever is left into the slide and can still play great. (Not sure what his furniture making is like now ....)
Good job he wasn't a classical guitarist. Could have put a new meaning to "fingerpicking"! I'm in the "working silly shifts" camp. Every couple of weeks I'm working evenings & finish between 8-10pm.
12. Is that p--- --f?
13. I've used the aux in on my ipod dock & also a set of satellite & sub PC speakers (sometimes via the mac, sometimes direct). Both work reasonably well at low volumes & fine if you're just practising playing & not doing much with fx. I do have a wee Vox Venue 30 bass combo handy(which is heavier than my MB combo!).
14. Sorry DC2009, I'd also have to disagree. If you're having trouble with "Digging in" then you need to turn your amp up & play with a lighter touch. How hard you're playing with the right hand is just as important as what frets you're holding with the left IMO. I'm not dissing compressors as some folk like what they do to your sound (I do too sometimes), but I wouldn't use one to try & rectify poor technique.
15. Or money.
16.
Why not ? I bet the total current drain with a small PA and no lights is under 5A. But you could use multiple extension leads from a 4 way thats powered via the trip if your worried. Does depend on the capacity and the length of the cable though.
It probably would be Ok, but adding things does cause a higher resistance & if it's someone who doesn't know much about electricity other than it makes things work, then it's best to run on the safe side. They might not notice a long cable starting to overheat & becoming a hazard. Just a quick note to the OP, don't plug multi sockets or 2/3 way adaptors into one another.
17.
Why am I only finding this out now!? Does obbm do nuclear electricity? Should I rewire my cabs with it?
Why do you think he uses Neutrik jacks?
18. A few years ago I thought I wanted a compressor & was almost set on getting a Black Finger I tried a few different ones & decided all it did was take away the dynamics from my playing & raised the noise floor (so if there was a small feint buzz before, it would be annoying with the compressor). I do have a fairly consistent level whenever I play something & don't really suffer much from peaks & troughs & got disappointed that I wasn't going to need a compressor. I'd go with spending the money on some good lessons.
19.
Run EVERYTHING FROM THE SAME TRIP, a plug top type like you use for a lawnmower will be fine.
That depends on how much load you're using. I wouldn't run 3 amps & a PA from one mains run from the house.
20. From the sound of what BottomEndian has said, the moog MF-101 with an expression pedal would be the same. It's a Low Pass Filter (from the Minimoog) & you can use exp pedals to control the cut off, resonance, amount (for the envelope follower) & mix (you could use 4 pedals on this if you wanted). Myself, Shep (Panterairsoft) & a few other BCers use these. There's a vid of me using one in the effectys reviews section as well as some audio clips.
21. Is that your band? Catchy little number. Didn't get time to hear the whole song, but I'll check out the other vids soon.
22. I use my acoustic guitar into my markbass combo all the time & sounds faithful to what I put into it.
23. Phil talks good sense here. Another thing to take into account is Xmax (not to be mixed up with Xmas) which relates to this bit...
You play bass however and the lower the note the further the cone has to travel to reproduce it. there's examples out there of speakers that only have a couple of mm movement before the coil starts to move out of the magnet. For bottom E this means that they can only handle a few watts. Under these conditions your 300W speaker might be only a 30W speaker
24. If you want your Hofner to sound bright & zingy then go for rounds. I prefer my bass to sound bassy so have TI flats on it.
