1.
Yes. I'm not saying its the "best" order but if you google for "effects pedal order" most people suggest wah before overdrive. I suspect its because a lot of the classic rock guitarists like Hendrix did it that way.
The majority of bassists that I talk to do the same as me, Dirt then Filter. Not all, but most.
2. Just back from another jam. The suggested songs were Come Together (which is sounding pretty good & very different from the original), It's all been done, Radio nowhere & Johnny B (overrated 3 chord predictable pile of something that isn't) Goode. So we started with the Barenaked Ladies song, It's all been done. They played & sung it just like the original. Tried it again as I didn't play the bassline anything like the original & it still sounded guff. Then we tried Radio Nowhere. Again the 2 guitarists just tried to rock it. OK, it's a rock song, but were not a rock band. So I wubbed the whole song (which actually sounded good to an extent) & we binned that song as well. They then pulled out Johnny B Gooaway!! I really hate this song. I never used to, but it's worse than Mustang Sally to play! It's a boring pile of steamy turd that just follows the same 3 chord pattern as almost every other crappy RnR song from the 50s & 60s. I tried playing something a bit more funky, popped the auto filter on, tried slapping, a bit of disco, but nothing makes it sound any better. We then played Come Together & we had fun. At last a song that sounds good, is fun to play & the guitars sound good in it. So we played it another 2 times. Then we played a wee bit of Get Lucky, which was sounding good, but one of the guitarists got bored & said it's just typical dance music & couldn't be bothered playing it anymore. We did Crazy & then the 2 guitards started playing some random rock stuff & noodling about. Why is it so hard to find decent musicians! I'll try another couple & see how it goes, but I think we need another band meeting to talk about the music & then just write things.
3. Since the demise of the Doors, I don't think anyone knew he was still alive! That goes for all the recent OAPs that's recently (or ever) passed away. The only exceptions seem to be towards the ones that are still on the go & refuse to give up & we usually say "hurry up & die & give us some peace"! A good example was Frank Sinatra. His demise wasn't a great loss, he left a brilliant back catalogue! But, yes. I agree with you.
4.
I'd put wah first, overdive, and tuner.
My incline would be the exact reverse order, but neither is right. It's very subjective to what wah & dirt it is. Some folk on here prefer dirt after the filter, I tried it & the filter then does very little, whereas if I put the filter after the dirt, I can close the filter for a low end rumble & open it to add dirt. I would keep the pedals to play about with & find out which ones you like & then at a later date, get better ones if you need to. I wouldn't use the FX loop for anything other than rack fx, but again that's one of those things that is upto how you want to sound. The send on most amps is a mix of clean & fx (though some amps are switchable). +1 to having decent patch leads & power.
5. There is no better/wrong way. Playing about with the pedals & getting them in the order that makes the sounds that You like is part of the fun of having pedals. I'd probably leave the suppressor & limiter pedals off & then see if you need them.
6. I used to have a 2x15 marshall rig. I then had a 4x10 Trace Elliot combo. I now have a 2x10 markbass combo that could drown out either of those 2 rigs.
7.
It wasn't a sympathy vote, I just didn't want to vote for a pro. I didn't know which was his when I voted, although I had a good idea. Simon would deserve to win it, because his mix is the best there (in my opinion) but I voted for the next best thing.
My comment came out wrong. I meant I wasn't going to be voting a sympathy vote for my own mix. I wasn't judging how you placed your vote. It's your vote & your right to vote for whatever mix you want to. I plan on doing the same (that's voting for whichever mix I want).
8. I couldn't tell you which is who's, but there isn't a bad mix among any of the ones I've listened to so far. I'll get a listen to the rest either tonight or Wednesday & place my vote. I know which is mine & won't be placing a sympathy vote!
9.
Ha! I'm getting worried, because (at the risk of losing anonymity) my mix still has no votes... Maybe it wasn't anywhere near as good as I thought it was, and I didn't even think it was that good... pollocks!
If it's any consolation, I thought I did a good mix (thought the low & top could be better, but I'm deaf) & I have no votes either. I still think mines' the best mix, but like was said earlier, that's probably because I'm used to hearing it like that. Too many of the other mixes has the vocal sounding a bit Elvisish, whereas I think he sounds more like Steve Earle.

What a disappointment! I was hoping for a thread on this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL8xYvKwzNA
11. A bit of black foam with a hole cut out for the handle (packaging foam would do).
12. Ahhh, but which is the best drummer for metal?
13. xgsjx

Which autowah?

If you're not wanting to spend a lot, then the EHX Q-tron (& it's variations) are worth a look. If you're happy to spend, then I'll add the Moog MF-101 to your list. It really comes into it's own if you add an expression pedal or 2.
14.
Pretty much everything after 1980
You've not listened to much 70's funk & heard the mighty Mu-tron! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj51HsAN72Q
15. That's gonna be one Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng list! Bands would be a much shorter list!
16.
xgsjx We're friendly with some promoters in town too and they are always looking for new bands plus they are decent folk and not at all a pain to deal with honestly! I'll be happy to pass on any links you have to tunes etc once you're going for it! G
Cheers. That'd be much appreciated. If you like, I can put you in touch with a promoter that got me a gig in Dundee & had more lined up for us (but unfortunately my singer took a stroke & now has no interest in music )? He also has some good contacts around Scotland for other venues.
17. Excellent stuff!
18. Good call! When/if my new band get up to gigging standards I'll be in touch. That's if they end up any good.
19. Kickoff in 1/2 an hour! Have fun.
20. Sounds like they all have PLI with them. Zurich don't sound too promising if that's their definition of a boot, so wise to check your insurance for any limitations. I've always thought that there should only be 1 FSA & now there is, & that's for food (they was more honest & better at regulating money than the hokey one too).
21.
Like the idea, i feel it could do with a little more variation because of the track length.
Cheers Garry. I totally agree it could have done with some more variation (it was originally almost 8 mins long!). Had I the time, I was going to put some guitar on top of it & maybe even some vocals & that way the bass would have not needed to do any more, but I'm working all weekend & my next day off is Wednesday so I doubt I'll get a chance. I'm looking forward to getting a good listen to the other tracks (probably Wednesday).
22. Got mine completed all in a day! Well seeing it's a solo bass piece then, eh! It seemed appropriate to get good ue of the sequencer section on the Bass Murf for this one & had fun playing with the filters at the same time as (trying to) play bass. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/death-of-a-jazz-club
23. +1 My last singer always said, bad rehearsal = a good gig.
24. Home insurance most likely will not cover theft if an item is left unconcealed in an unlocked vehicle. The usual cover for vehicle theft is it must be concealed in a boot (or glove compartment) & the vehicle must be locked. Also if using your home insurance, let them know if the gigs are amateur, or if you earn money. Shouldn't increase your premium, but if you earn money & they don't know, then they might refuse your claim. I use New Moon. It includes PLI when you insure your gear (even if you just cover your bass).
