2.
I got the Micro VR head early this year and recently gigged with it at a 200 person capacity venue with no problems. I could not afford the matching cab so i am playing through a Laney 4x10 cab. As a relative novice i also love the simplicty of the control panel, bass, mid and treble. Its so easy with just those options to find a sound you like without spending hours/days/weeks twiddeling around with too many control knobs.
cool man! ive got the av cab but not the vr head! gonna get myself the rig so i have 2 of the cabs as im gonna use them as part of my effected rig with my lm2, and use the vr as a practice amp, plus im in a covers band playing pubs and that will make a perfect rig! andy
 3.
its finally here, im mega happy. ITS ACE and not bad for a 17 year old haha cant wait to gig it in the weekend
come on dnt tease! post some pics! the thing i love about mine is it fills a room really well! andy
 4.
It can happen the other way around too. Sometimes I'll get a wicked tone/noise when I'm practicing on me jack but when I take it to a sesh with the band it just gets swallowed up and loses it's impact.
that happens to me with every distortion i use! but ive kinda learn't when i can kick it in and it be heard underneath the band mix. ill get some pics of mine not as impressive as most of the ones on here tho! andy
 5. love mine! its now driven with a aggie db750, but before that i had a ampeg svt-pro 6 sounded wicked! my 610's a keeper! ive heard theres better out there and that theirs smaller cabs that will apparently go louder but its not going anywhere! with my aggie it a brutal rig! andy
 6.
Well, at the end of the day, I could continue to use my Marshall bass cabs for the metal looks (2x15 and 4x12 bass cabs) but I fancied 10s as I find the Marshall 2x15 a bit flabby, and I borrowed an 8x10 recently that sounded 100x better, so a pair of 4x10s seemed like an obvious, flexible answer that would handle any size venue by using 1 for smaller gigs and 2 for bigger stages to take advantage of the 4 ohms. I could just have one 4 ohm 4x10, but that would look crap against the 4 Marshall 4x12s my guitarists have (we believe in old school "wall of death" Metal backline) but I suppose if I had enough brute volume coming from one 4 ohm 4x10, I wouldn't be averse to cheating and using a dummy cab as well just for looks. If we ever hit it big enough to play sizeable venues and afford proper crew, then I'm buying/hiring SVT8x10s. I am not averse to trying the Barefaced cabs though, when I have the dosh ready, I will try some out. What cabs would you recommend for ACDC/Motorhead style Hard Rock with a Thunderbird?
two 410's wont sound like a 810, but i would honestly take a look at the 610hlf, its not that much bigger than a single 410hlf i believe its actually shallower? ok it weighs more 85pounds for the 410 and 110 for the 610 but the 610 is easier to move! and does give the same sort of look as the 810. and you can use it for small gigs and large rather than having add another cab? andy
 7.
6x10 a nice idea, but I want to do this as 2x 4x10s, so I need 8 ohm cabs.
cool man there very easy to get around tho?, i know aguilar do 8 or 4 ohm 410's andy
 8.
What about the 4 ohm SVT-610HLF?
+1! if you need anymore than this id be shocked! i love mine! and now i have my db750 i can if wanted add another :-) andy
 9.
Ah, here is the spec: TONE HAMMER - (click here for sample settings) This preamp/direct box is so strong and powerful it could only be called the "Tone Hammer"! Based on the respected OBP-3 preamp, the Tone Hammer features fully sweepable midrange frequencies in addition to bass and treble controls. With the Tone Hammer's pristine D.I. you are set for the studio or the stage. To give this tone shaping unit the ultimate flexibility we are introducing our proprietary Adaptive Gain Shaping circuitry (AGS). AGS allows the player to kick in an additional gain structure and EQ with the "stomp" of a button. You can now go from modern slap sounds to vintage or overdriven. 18 volt operation gives the Tone Hammer plenty of headroom to reproduce the most dynamic playing style. Separate "Gain" and "Master" controls allow you to dial in just the right gain structure for any instrument. The Tone Hammer is the essential preamp/direct box for every bassist's tool box. Features: Pre/Post DI Unbalanced output can drive a power amp AGS circuitry Cut and boost of treble, mid and bass frequencies Fully sweepable midrange frequencies Powered by two nine volt batteries, phantom power or optional universal power supply Ground lift switch Heavy Duty steel construction Specs: Inputs: One 1/4" jack Outputs: One 1/4" jack, One XLR (nominal output - 14 dBu balanced) EQ: Bass +/- 18 dB @ 40 Hz Mid +/- 17 dB @ 180 Hz to 1 kHz Treble +/- 18 dB @ 4 kHz Controls: Ground lift switch Pre/Post DI switch Engage switch AGS switch Warranty: Three year limited Optional: 18 volt power supply ----------- So it has the OBP-3 preamp in it. There might not be any point in getting it if you have an Aguilar pre....but then again it depends if you prefer the dirt on the sansamp or tone hammer. Both work....DI is great.
thanks man! yeh would be nice to be able to add the pre to my fender p tho? Mmm well im thinking im gonna just have to try em out! andy
 10.
They both sound quite different! Both di, the sansamp is more classic ampeg-ish, the tone hammer is little more modern and has a pre amp built in so it can 'active' your passive basses.
would that pre amp screw with the pre amp in my modulus? ive got the 0bp-1 aggie pre in it btw. andy
 11.
See also the thread on how to get the best out of the BDDI - the results you'll get will be closely bound to what rig you're running through.
im running a db750 thru a 610hlf peg at the minute. but soon will be running that rig alongside a lm2 with two 210 ampeg cabs as a dirty rig which would be what this will be running thru eventually. but also like the idea of being able to send a dirty sig to the pa using the di. andy
 12. looking into adding a bit of grit on some songs in my band. both of these can do it but what would you guys go with? andy
 13.
Would anyone be interested in a Sansamp BDDI for a Tone Hammer? The Sansamp is in perfect condition, I can post pics if anyone wants them. Thanks.
pm'd
 14. ive had a search and i haven't found anything that can do what i need without a massive midi board or having to have my pedals out front. here's a drawing of what my rig is gonna be, the only difference will be my wah pedal which will be after my bass first in the chain. basically im looking for something to do the job of the blue box? i want to be able to switch between to different loops of pedals to send to my dirty rig. so i basically need an a/b switch that has an input for the clean bass sig, an output to the effected rig, but on the switches it has loop inputs? anybody know of anything that could do this or how to construct something that can? i want to put all my pedals in a draw rack unit with my lm2 will just make my life a lot easier! andy
 15. hi guys! these are guitar tab/chord books Bonjovi crossroads guitar tab book> £8.00 greenday international superhits £ 8.00 the darkness permission to land £8.00 postage included! andy
 16.
The DB751 has quieter fans compared to the DB750 and the sound is slightly smoother, but still delivers a punch and I don't regret for one minute giving up my Epifani 502.
yeh the fan is loud on my 750 but i can live with it, glad the 751 sounds similar to the 750 tho as that sounds awesome! andy
 17.
Can't help with choices as I'm thick on that sort of thing, but I've always fancied a Modulus myself. It would have to be a 5 though.
Mate if you can try them out go for it awesome basses and there not stupid money! Now woz, I'm thinking more the j style now for something a bit dif, but there getting back to me next week sometime with what options they have avalible that aren't on there site? I'm just looking for advice from someone who's played with the j type modulus's got to be someone on here? I know ian on here from smart but so well see what they come back with Andy
 18.
how much are little marks and little giants going for nowadays. may eventually give into the mark band wave budgets and all that, reckon i'll be able to spend 250 max on an amp. cab could be sorted very soon!
i managed to get my lm2 for 350 secondhand andy
 19. was looking at getting a warwick 5er but after looking at the price and seeing its just to much money! ive decided to go down a route that i know! i love my fb4 so im gonna be getting a 5 string version. but im thinking of going down a slightly different route, probs get the 0BP-3 instead of the 0BP-1 pre amp. but mainly i want to know what people would recommend for pickup/s I like the idea of having the j type pups in it, but ive just seen on there gallery shots that it looks like you can have a mm and j setup which would be cool! as i love the sd basslines pickup i have in my fb4. color wise im thinking of the pic below! so what would you guys go for preamp and pickups wise? andy
 20.
He said Bob Rock and James, not Jason.
jeez sorry! thats my bad! reading to quickly. anyway after working out the prices i just cant see this being a viable choose for me! i think im gonna go down a route that i know and trust which is modulus. just looking at the prices i can custom the hell out of it, and probs still be under 2 grand! thanks for all you posts guys sorry its a waste of time thread! andy
 21. does it have to be ampeg? i a/b'd the svt cl against the aguilar db750 and if you look in my sig you'll see what won! honestly give it a go if you can! i love the ampeg cabs! but i had a prob with an svt pro 6 i had so i changed amp but love there cabs! andy
 22.
I know, hence me saying "although the lines on the album are amazingly played too". Albeit it by Bob Rock and James. On a Spector owned by the bassist from Loverboy, no less!
Woah! Jason left well before the st anger recording started, its just bob rock on the album Andy
 23.
Yes really. Not a patch on Newstead IMO. There might be a few clips of the Dublin gig a few years back when they did the Master 20th aniversary thingy on the goo tube.
i really dnt get the love for newstead hes a good bassist. and the only video ive seen of him doing orion hes playing the slow riff completely wrong! andy
