1. hi guys im really hoping some of you can help as im freaking out a bit! was at practice with my band, and as we have a gig on saturday(oct 1st) we were running our whole set list about 2 and a half hours of stuff! well were were going along just fine did our cover of teenage kicks amp had been sounding awesome! had some fuzz and delay going on. finished that song and the guitarist broke his e string, as he was trying to find a new one i was noodling around and talking to our drummer. then he couldnt find one so we decided to play on without him, then i heard a slight click, not that loud at all just vagely noticed then no noise! nothing my amp was on and nothing had changed from a second ago when it sounded awesome! wasnt hot, dnt think i was pushing it etc, sounded wicked in the last song id played! any ideas ive got a gig sat and really wanted to play this amp as i finally had my rig sounding how i wanted! please help! andy
2. my pedal board has grown over the last year as i wanted to add something extra! my band does a few covers like parallel universe, and i like to kick in a fuzz or od in the chorus as it helps give it a kick and obviously then people notice the effect or at least the effect it had on the song. and then there are times when we decide to make a cover totally diferent like the kinks all day and all of the night where i have my swollen pickle on! but on our own stuff ill always play it clean first then wonder what i can add to make it sound better! if nothing does then ill leave it clean. andy
3.
Yeah. 45"x21" with a 'bridge' running the whole length. Going to rock. All based on a specific layout that's far more ergonomic than my current one.
sweet man. i need to post my board up a on here as its changed a bit. andy
4. your board does look sweet! are you getting a teared board made? andy
5. shep that board looks sweet! how heavy is the whammy! the 4 is heavy enough! andy
6. ive seen a few videos online looks awesome! so anyone out there tried it? andy
7.
A lot depends on what features you need, if you've already got music in mind... If you're going to be doing long loops, then that knocks out the Akai Headrush and Line6 DL4, even though they are both very 'musical' pedals to use. I love using the DL4, especially with an expression pedal hooked up as well (can then do fades, and/or bring in and out delay over the loop). For the longer loop time pedals, Boss and Digitech have both recently revamped their lines, so I've not had a chance to try them out yet - the RC20xl was a pretty well designed pedal (though about 1 in 5 times I see someone use it they've accidentally turned on the metronome, and you get an effing loud snare drum instead of the first loop...). The RC50 was 'nearly' great. Too many glitches in the software to be truly magic, and now they've discontinued it. Great things can be done with it though - I guested with beatboxer Shlomo on his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and he gets some serious mileage from it. Digitech have a new larger looper with delays in in as well - looks to be half way between the earlier jamman pedal and the DL4. Def. worth a look. The Looperlative is unbelievable, but a serious investment. Nothing in the hardware world comes close (though there are a few cool software loopers around, if you trust your laptop/OS enough. I don't ) There's also the Gibson Echoplex, Electrix Repeater and Lexicon JamMan if you're buying used, but check out the feature set on each of them first... cheers Steve www.stevelawson.net
thanks man ill be sure to check them out. the rc-30 is looking fave at the min, need to give it a try really tho as like you ive seen people turn the drums on! only need shortish loops but i dnt really need all the delay stuff that comes with the akai and the dl4. might be time to go to the guitar shop and sit down and try some out! andy
8.
I recently bought an Octaswitch and it's solved my pedal and loop switching problems. Really simple to use, no programming or sifting through banks, just set up the loops you want using the switches and play. They can be had for a fraction of the price of other systems too. A great bit of kit and although it is rather chunky it totally justifies it's place on my board. Get one.
cool another thing i can look at! the musicom efx would be my ideal but its seems impossible to find second hand! even thought of the unthinkable of selling all my stomps and getting bar the whammy and getting an line 6 m13 but im not convinced about the dirt in the m13 sounds wicked on guitar but a tad thin on bass from what ive seen, thats just me tho! not slagging the m13! andy
9.
Short of the Looperlative, the best looper in my opinion is the Boomerang III. Its a brilliant, compact multitrack looper that is so easy to use its ridiculous!
is that the rackmounted one that steve lawson uses? thats a bit much for me, ive been looking at the rc-30xl looks interesting and much better than the rc-20 in that it has more recording time and some interesting effects! but i do have a question i know it has stereo outs but do you have to use these to use the dual channels? im thinking not but i just wanna check? andy
10.
I've just downgraded from the rather cool Digitech Stereo JamMan. I wanted a single pedal that I could chuck in my gig bag instead and have just bought the Boss RC3. I'd say that the JamMan, having more buttons and functionality would make it better for live annnnnnd you can connect further footswitches to the pedal for it's other operations. I think if I were to use the rc3 for live looping too, I'd grab the 2 pedal footswitch to cut down on on stage tap dancing. For other loopers, take a look at Electroharmonix, Akai, Eventide and for the daddy of loopers, Looperlative.
Mmmm the eventide is interesting but id rather get a pitchfactor from them, the electroharmonix is a bit big for my liking the akai's pretty cool but im leaning towards the old school and probs boring boss atm! just looks a bit easier to use on the fly, as mainly it will be being used for live use. im thinking of sending the looped signal to a external source, as the loops i want to make are octave down and overdriven sounds and my normal tone is high gain and a bit dirty so im a little concerned about the abuse that my cab would have to take at live volume, thinking of getting a small di box and sending the looper stuff to the pa. andy
11.
I use the twin pedal RC20 XL.I find it a lot easier to use than the single pedal version. I also run it through my rig like I would with any other pedal.
cool, i know the double pedal has a fade out option which is pretty good. kk gonna have to start looking on the bay and here for one then me thinks. andy
12. boss odb-3 seriously dnt believe what people say its a really nice overdrive! you just have to play with it a bit! andy
13.
Amazing... but what had me salivating was the Microtubes B3K... I'm really really tempted to get one of those.
im loving the tlc atm on youtube that probs gonna be got soon! what do you guys think about the carl martin octabass? andy
14. im looking into getting a looper so i can play over my own parts live as in a new song my band are doing at the minute the intro starts with building up about three bass parts! im looking at either the boss rc-2 or the rc-20xl basically is the two pedal version better than the single? also do you guys send the looped signal to a diferent amp, or to the pa? kinda want to limit the amount of punishment handed to my cab and head. andy
15.
for the whammy there's a footswitch which will switch modes. I think it's called "molten MIDI" or something
i saw this the other day! very handy bit of kit actually. i just saw the musicom efx 2 online and this looks spot on! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RstH2u9yN28 looks like i could midi control my whammy, and have 4 different sounds ready at anytime! anyone seen these? and 8 loops is plenty! but ive looked on the bay and theres nada! dnt really wanna buy new as it means getting the new model which has more stuff i dnt need! and is ££££! any alternatives? in the same vein as this? the gigrig looks a bit full on for me. andy
16. im pretty happy with the effect and pedals i have atm! i have plans to add a few more but i need to get a slightly bigger pedal board. but while im doing the upsizing im thinking of making my life easier at the same time! theres moments in our set where i need no effects and some where i need alsmost all of em! ( ok i dnt need them but its fun! ) and im wandering what you guys who are in the same situation as me do? so you know what i have heres my board. bass--digitech whammy( with my boss tu-3 in the direct out )-- swollen pickle--ls2( used to blend my clean tone with a ehx metal muff)--odb3--bf3-- memory boy-- amp and ontop of this im looking to add a octaver, a wah and as im getting in to synth probs either the boss synth or the ehx but who knows, also i use a few different modes on the whammy and its annoying changing between settings on the fly so any help with that i know its midi but hows that work? thanks andy
17. hi guys need to get a few pedals sold due to money issues and moving house so need to free up some space. first of i have a napalm snowball feed back looper, its in like new condition only used a few times at practice and its just not for me! very cool and is tiney but really well put together! im looking for £40.00 posted for this. next up is a behringer bass chorus pedal, its an ok chorus for the price, looking for 20 quid posted then sadly im having to also sell my boss ce-5 i love this pedal but atm im not using it and i need the cash so ill hopefully get another soon! im looking for 50 quid for this as its in good nick and is an awesome chorus for bass. then i have my boss phaser pedal the ph-3, this is like new! sadly again having to sell due to needing the monies, looking for 60 quid posted. then i have a zakk wylde wah wah pedal from dunlop this has a broken battery cover but otherwise works just fine, ideally looking for around 60 quid for this. please message me if you are interested ive only used these pedals at practice so they have been treated well, im not looking for trades but if you have some thing that you think i may like or you want to put some money plus a pedal then just throw me a message. andy
18.
Cool thanks for that. I think tomorrow I will take the Boss back and get a backup for my Korg.
is it just me, but why dnt you unplug the lead from the tuner? but im used to unplugging stuff as i have active basses so the batteries drain unless i unplug them. andy
19. boss all the way! build like a tank, makes down tuning easy, can run up to seven boss pedals out of it using a dasiy chain lead, has a direct out so you can split signal if you want to and its a really good tuner. i tune using the 12th fret harmonics and the note is up in seconds. the tu-3 is even more accurate than the tu-2 due to having a better display, you can also brighten or dim the lights. i run mine of the direct out of my whammy, that way i can leave it on and always see if im in tune, but sadly that way i can't mute and this way theres no bother it not being true bypass, not that i care about that tho! andy
20. bump as the wah is back up for sale or trade please offer away! need this to go! andy
21. well first thing on any board should be a tuner really, ive got a boss tu-3 really good tuner, can power pedals from it all in all very good tuner. you can probs grab the earlier tu-2 on here or flea bay for around 35-40 quid, its not much different can just supply a single pedal. i love my swollen pickle for fuzz, i use it with a ehx metal muff sounds awesome! the metal muff is a bit more hardcore than the bbm also you can get the nano or one which has a small eq and separate top boost. if you havent already try out the boss odb-3 has a clean blend built in and can get some nice sounds if you have patience with it. alot of people are put of by the reviews. i dnt use compression live, just use it in the studio on recorded tracks. as another suggestion if you find a overdive you like but it cuts the bottom end out you could get a boss ls-2 it works really well as a blender, and they norm go for about 45 quid? andy
22. ive got a ce-5 for me much better than the ceb-3 really nice thick chorus, and very little low end loss and also has stereo outs which makes it sound huge! not tried the the ebs but im guessing its true bypass? which the boss isnt, not that that bothers me on bit! build quality boss units are built like tanks! Andy
23.
You're welcome over anytime... And now I want one of those!!!! Not for a track... Most I use is 8 plus the MP-201 in a track. I've had them all on at once just messing around, but with all the modulation effects it becomes a huge sub-drone that just builds up and up until cab shakes so much I feared it would explode.
haha been there! using my whammy with octave down, then the pickle, with my metal muff, flanger and memory boy it can get a bit much lol! nothing compared to you tho! andy
