1. I play a Joy Division song with my band and I use this; http://www.tcelectronic.com/corona.asp
2. Oh it sounds gorgeous, really powerful and very easy to play now it's got the perfect set up. Think I'll use it at our next gig
3. Oh, and £30 for a rewind on one of the pickups
4. Only about £50, because I am a guitar tech and did all the work myself. Only outlays were the new machine heads and a replacement bridge I bought to rob the mute pad assembly from.
5. IIRC about £150, which was a real bargain. I had to drive to Brum and back to get it though. Below is a link to a spare 1979 Hondo bridge I am selling http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1586.l2649
6. My advice is to steer well clear of the makes you mention. You are much better off finding a second hand Squier. Vintage make might be worth checking out too. You can always upgrade if you take to it. Welcome to bass playing
7. In June 2011 I was lucky enough to find a 1979 Hondo 2 identical to the one I saw Peter Hook playing with Joy Division in October 1979. Here he is playing it on TV that same year; It had been rather neglected and needed restoring. Here's what I did; http://www.facebook....57669583&type=3 I've made the photos public, so hopefully you can see them.

9. IMHO his best bass performance is in 'Something'. You need to listen to it with bass turned up or on headphones to fully appreciate what he is doing. It's sucha beautiful song the bass passes you by unless you tune into it. Here is just the drums and bass from the original tapes.
10. I'm a working Guitar and Backline Tech. In my downtime I have been known to do set-ups (Do them all the time on the road). I charge £15 per hour. That way you only pay for what needs doing, not a flat rate. The most basic set up would be a fret and fretboard clean and polish, graphite on the nut, re-string, check and adjust truss rod and bridge to give the perfect action. Then set intonation. Bridge should be set initially to the same radius as the fretboard and can be adjusted to suit from that starting point, re-adjusting the intonation as I go.
11. On my custom built P-bass I installed Wilkinson WBP pick-ups. They are amazing and incredibly good value too. I was so impressed I only use Wilkinson hardware on my custom builds now. http://www.jhs.co.uk/wilkinson.html
12.
Just had a look at the above link, like the band, think the Hitchin gig will get me (and a few mates if possible) along.
Be great to see you there. Please come over and say hi. It should be a very hot and packed gig at The Vic and will be great fun. BTW we've just added 4 studio demos to our Lemonrock page and our website. If they were'nt there when you looked earlier they are worth checking out
13. Here are new studio recordings of four cover songs from our setlist. I'm particularly proud of the bass sound we captured on London Calling. Feel free to tell me what you think; http://thesynthetix....usic/4554214421
14. I've just been asked to learn Duchess for inclusion in our setlist
15. I recently restored a Hondo 2 Rick copy and needed to replace the machine heads. The ones I bought were about 2mm too big for the holes so I just teased the hole diameter out to the right size with a Dremel sander attachment. Hope this works for you.
16.
Here's a vid of us at Molly Malones and me hiding in the back as normal! Rothers - We play at a lot of the same places by the looks of it!! Molly's, Red Lion Biggleswade & Stevenage.
We do indeed. Next gig at the Vic in Hitchin. BTW you did well to fit in the alcove at Molly's. We had to move furniture and move into the area to the left of the entrance as you come in the front door. We are at the Red Lion Stevenage on 1st December. Last time we played there was a short notice cancellation by another band and we seemed to go downa storm so we are really looking forward to returning there.
17. This is us playing live at the Aylesbury Festival this summer
18. Shure SM-58 all the way. It's not the industry standard for nothing. Might be out of your price range though. Beware of immitations too. Only buy from an authorised dealer.
19. I'm interested in the overdrive. The only part of my pedalboard that isn't TC
20. Did Dan Steinhart build your board for you, or did you buy the GigRig gear from him? I sometimes tech for Dan's band and use his GigRig gear to build pedalboards for my clients. Dan might be able to help you sell it on.
21.
Keep trying to put a Stranglers song in The Daves set. Something Better Change - with me on vox - or No More Heroes. But the rest of the band think the solos go on for too long and are boring as they`re full of keyboards. Fools, like solos can`t be shortened to compensate for having no keyboards?
I'm aware of The Daves. I'm bassplayer in The Synthetix. We play throughout Herts, Beds, Cambs and Bucks. You should come along and see us. Be good to meet you. http://www.lemonrock.com/thesynthetix
22. I promised myself I wouldn't accept myself as a bass player until I could play the iconic basslines that I love. I think also when you get a big cheer at the end of your live set as you are introduced then you can call yourself a bassplayer. I'm a bassplayer
23. Just popping in to say that JJ has always been my bass hero. I have the honour of playing some Stranglers songs in my band. We cover No More Heroes and Hanging Around at the moment. We did do Grip, but since we lost our keyboard player we dropped it. As for the sound, good pick ups on my custom 'Rothers Punk Bass' turned up to full treble and a little natural overdrive on my Laney rig.
24. I may well be interested if it is still for sale
