1. I must admit that I have had some great advice. My only problem now is which way to go! Thanks everyone!
2. Hi, the serial number is on the back of the neck close to the body so I would have thought it is a CIJ neck, presuming everything is above board. I have messaged the seller and asked if it says crafted in Japan next to the serial. No reply as yet...
3. Please don't get me started about drummers!!!!
4. I have never met a guitarist who will turn down. They pretend to and think everybody is dumb enough to believe them . Even when they are that loud the vocals cannot be heard. Their solution is turn the vocals up. Sorry but the vocals wont go any higher as the PA is only 1.5k in a 16'x10' room. Oh well says the guitarist... Its what guitarists do! Their sound is never 'right' when the rest of the band can be heard! I'm so glad I only rehearse about 6 times a year...
5. Carlsboro Stingray leads are top. All Carlsboro bass gear is bollocks. I had a combo that I only put effects through and it was ace for that but if I put any bass signal through it, the neighbours laughed for days. Bland 800hz.
6. My headstock is more or less like this -
7. Hi, the serial number says its crafted in Japan 2004-2005. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/japanese-instruments-product-dating/
8. Is it me or has the price jumped up sixty quid?
9. Hi, thanks for your time everyone. That's the right picture of the tuners on my bass so the pups are more than likely Japanese. The active preamp mod looks excellent and I will certainly bear that in mind but in the meantime a Basschat member has offered to lend me some Seymour Duncans to try out (which I thought was a wonderful gesture). Also, just recently the CIJ has developed a bit of a crackle so I thought rather than send it to a tech to diagnose, it would work out cheaper to buy a decent solderless harness and fit it myself. I do think if the Duncans don't work out I will go for the preamp it really looks fantastic. Thanks again everyone...
10. Would buy it myself but I'm having a clear out myself - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261194263542?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
11. The tuners are shiny and not the aged vintage look if that helps. Thanks...
12. The tuners are smaller than these in the link but I would not say they are quite small? 13. [sub]Hi, I have heard that they maybe USA and also that they are not. To be honest the wiring looks cheap to me so I was swayed to thinking that they weren't USA.[/sub]
14. I ordered the Redsub about 3 months ago from Gear4music, my delivery date is next Wednesday. I will let you all know what I think of it.
15. I got one of these in the early 80's. It got damaged in a shop window in Blackburn during the riots! They filled and repainted the ding where the brick hit it. It still cost me about £160 though! I really liked it but the guitarist at the time had some beef with it and complained all the time about the sound! I eventually sold it to a mate and bought a 72 jazz but he complained about that too! Eventually I sold that for peanuts and got a Westone Thunder 3. He complained about that so I left the band! Eventually he got me to go back but I kept the Westone until 5 years ago when like a complete d**khead I sold it! The Peavey was a true monster but I don't think my back could handle it now...

18. Hi, thanks for the input. I will be selling them but they are in Belgium up until 21st May. I was trying to get an idea of what they may be worth. I was hoping eventually to sell them on along with some other stuff to fund a USA Precision and maybe Westone Thunder lll. Thanks again...
19. I'm looking for some USA replacement pickups for my 2002 CIJ 50's precision. The bass sounds good but I think I can get it to sound much better with a pickup replacement. I was thinking perhaps some 62 reissues or perhaps some quarter pounders. I'm open to suggestion though. Would I be better off with a matching harness? Anybody tried the upgrade?

23. Amp tech near Blackburn to look at my Eden Metro. Dave Pye in Preston is too busy. Anybody know anybody close by? Thanks...
24. Hi, I have a couple of basses that are coming back to me from a friends studio in Belgium. I was wondering does anyone have any idea of the value of Gordon Smith basses? I believe this one was custom built in 1991 for a client who didn't want it! I bet Mr Smith was well happy! Somehow it made it new to a friend of mine and I got it off him in the latter 90's. Its a really nice woody sounding bass and quite heavy. Through neck etc and built really well. If it was custom built it may well be one of a kind but am not sure. The black bass (although has a F decal) was built in Lancashire by a company that have now gone bust and I do not know their name. I picked it up a few years ago but it has lived in Belgium most of that time. Heavy, beautiful neck, very well made and can be really warm and mellow almost dreamy. I was hoping somebody might recognise the basses and have some info and perhaps an idea of their value? Thanks...
25. Hi, thanks for your reply. I have just been having a look at those too. They do seem like a good option but I cant recall seeing one for sale second hand? It would have to be used I suppose. Its whether or not I could realistically sell my Mark setup and have enough for the Mini CMD. would you put them at a similar value? Thanks...
