I have never met a guitarist who will turn down. They pretend to and think everybody is dumb enough to believe them . Even when they are that loud the vocals cannot be heard. Their solution is turn the vocals up. Sorry but the vocals wont go any higher as the PA is only 1.5k in a 16'x10' room. Oh well says the guitarist... Its what guitarists do! Their sound is never 'right' when the rest of the band can be heard! I'm so glad I only rehearse about 6 times a year...

Carlsboro Stingray leads are top. All Carlsboro bass gear is bollocks. I had a combo that I only put effects through and it was ace for that but if I put any bass signal through it, the neighbours laughed for days. Bland 800hz.

Is it me or has the price jumped up sixty quid?

Hi, thanks for your time everyone. That's the right picture of the tuners on my bass so the pups are more than likely Japanese. The active preamp mod looks excellent and I will certainly bear that in mind but in the meantime a Basschat member has offered to lend me some Seymour Duncans to try out (which I thought was a wonderful gesture). Also, just recently the CIJ has developed a bit of a crackle so I thought rather than send it to a tech to diagnose, it would work out cheaper to buy a decent solderless harness and fit it myself. I do think if the Duncans don't work out I will go for the preamp it really looks fantastic. Thanks again everyone...

Would buy it myself but I'm having a clear out myself - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261194263542?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

The tuners are shiny and not the aged vintage look if that helps. Thanks...

The tuners are smaller than these in the link but I would not say they are quite small? [sub]Hi, I have heard that they maybe USA and also that they are not. To be honest the wiring looks cheap to me so I was swayed to thinking that they weren't USA.[/sub]

I ordered the Redsub about 3 months ago from Gear4music, my delivery date is next Wednesday. I will let you all know what I think of it.

I got one of these in the early 80's. It got damaged in a shop window in Blackburn during the riots! They filled and repainted the ding where the brick hit it. It still cost me about £160 though! I really liked it but the guitarist at the time had some beef with it and complained all the time about the sound! I eventually sold it to a mate and bought a 72 jazz but he complained about that too! Eventually I sold that for peanuts and got a Westone Thunder 3. He complained about that so I left the band! Eventually he got me to go back but I kept the Westone until 5 years ago when like a complete d**khead I sold it! The Peavey was a true monster but I don't think my back could handle it now...

Hi, thanks for the input. I will be selling them but they are in Belgium up until 21st May. I was trying to get an idea of what they may be worth. I was hoping eventually to sell them on along with some other stuff to fund a USA Precision and maybe Westone Thunder lll. Thanks again...

I'm looking for some USA replacement pickups for my 2002 CIJ 50's precision. The bass sounds good but I think I can get it to sound much better with a pickup replacement. I was thinking perhaps some 62 reissues or perhaps some quarter pounders. I'm open to suggestion though. Would I be better off with a matching harness? Anybody tried the upgrade?

Hi, I have a couple of basses that are coming back to me from a friends studio in Belgium. I was wondering does anyone have any idea of the value of Gordon Smith basses? I believe this one was custom built in 1991 for a client who didn't want it! I bet Mr Smith was well happy! Somehow it made it new to a friend of mine and I got it off him in the latter 90's. Its a really nice woody sounding bass and quite heavy. Through neck etc and built really well. If it was custom built it may well be one of a kind but am not sure. The black bass (although has a F decal) was built in Lancashire by a company that have now gone bust and I do not know their name. I picked it up a few years ago but it has lived in Belgium most of that time. Heavy, beautiful neck, very well made and can be really warm and mellow almost dreamy. I was hoping somebody might recognise the basses and have some info and perhaps an idea of their value? Thanks...

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have just been having a look at those too. They do seem like a good option but I cant recall seeing one for sale second hand? It would have to be used I suppose. Its whether or not I could realistically sell my Mark setup and have enough for the Mini CMD. would you put them at a similar value? Thanks...

Hi, thanks for that. I sort of have it in my head that I could just lift the little combo to take to rehearsals etc and hide the cab from my mrs who wants her living room(s) back! Not as easy with a 2x10 combo, she's like a bloodhound! I have stupidly just read a review of the AER Amp One... Now they do sound good...

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice really. I have a Mark Little 2 500w and a Markbass 151p Traveller 400w cab. I am debating on whether or not to sell and buy an Ibanez Promethean P5110 with the 10" extension cab (or the Orange isobaric 2x10) as I am really trying to compact my equipment. I have just moved down from an Eden Metro with a 4x10 extension to the Mark and I am very happy with it. I was wondering, will the Promethean with extension be suitable for smallish venues? We very rarely play without PA support (if ever) so my only real problem would be monitoring. Has anyone had any experience with the Promethean? What would be a fair price for the Promethean now? I think the P5110 might be discontinued but not 100% about that. I really don't want to sell the Mark stuff to find the Promethean wont be suitable. Any ideas? Thanks...

[sup]I've played in a few bands where the lead guitar amp was a Carlsbro Stingray and the guitar sound has always been excellent. One lad (who is quite well known) still uses his Stingray that he bought in about 1979![/sup]

I would play originals but I keep on meeting guitarists who are control freaks, want to 'rule' and spit their dummy out on a regular basis. I now play Clash songs with a group of mates (one of which now lives in Belgium) and we have a right good laugh. No strained rehearsals or prima donna singers and guitarists. We have a drummer who drives, can play, isn't a grumpy b*****d, moves and sets his own kit up( which he bought it himself!!!). To top it all our drummer even pays his own rehearsal money!!!! Beat that. Why would I want to play originals?

I find it really odd that you can buy a copy in a shop but cant sell one on Ebay? I have had a few ads removed as they "infringed" copyright. One bass I tried to sell was a 1972 Precision with a different neck which didn't even have a decal on at all (the original got snapped) and they took that off!!! There's tons of copies on Ebay but they only appear to remove private ads. Perhaps if you had a business account that would be ok!

Hi, does anybody have any info on Turbomax PA speakers. I have some for sale but cant get any info anywhere for anybody who is interested in them! The models are TMT450 8OHM and SB600 which are 4OHM. They are quality build. The tops are heavy and they all sound excellent. It seems odd that such a quality built piece of kit has virtually no info? When I bought them there was a site that sold them and they retailed at £2600 for the 4 matching units? Anybody had any experience of them? Thanks in advance.
