  1. I am wondering if this is of interest to anyone else? I helped set up the match day commentaries for Poole Town FC and in the process developed a cable that enabled dynamic microphones to be used with mobile phones and tablets. As you will have found out if you have tried to use the microphones supplied with, or designed for mobile devices, the electret capsules used have a unidirectional pattern that makes them all but useless for serious recording. The solution is to use a good quality dynamic microphone with a cardioid or hyper-cardioid polar response. Sadly mobile devices such as iPhones, Android phones, iPads and other tablets do not recognise dynamic microphones and continue to use the internal mic, even when the correct cables and connectors are used. The cable is more than a just a cable. It includes all the electronics needed to switch the mobile device to external microphone allowing any dynamic mic such as to be used with almost any mobile device. Above is the original. The cost would be in the region of £20-25, mainly becuse quality 3.5mm 4 way connectors are expensive.
  2. No, the voltage will remain the same but the current will increase into a lower impedance load. This assumes that the power supply is large enough (electrically not physically).
  3. The Bugera Veyrons have one and it is footswitchable (made up word)
  4. This is made from three metres of Sommer Triclone XXl, a very high quality cable plus your choice of connectors. you can have Neutrik NP2X (Straight ) or NP2RX (right angled) jack plugs. Alternately choose two straight Tricone XXL Jack Plugs ( HI-J63TC-SM) specially designed for use with this cable. They include a metal clamping system that grips the cable firmly over a large area. This ensures that no matter what the weight/load put upon the cable the connector stays frimly on the cable. Other lengths are available as well as other connectors. PM me for details.
  5. It took me a while to get the joke. I was dazzled by the glass transistors behind the bass.
  6. This is a cable made from NOS. New old stock that has been lying around unused. It uses genuine Neutrik Swiss Made SPEAKONs with a twist lock. Sadly they are discontinued as they are great for my old fingers. The cable is 2.5mm squared Trusound speaker cable, made in the USA for UK company FS Cables and is as good as the best German makes. At this length the cable is good for well over 2000 watts continuous and is ideal for connecting a bass cab to a head. I have a few more of these connectors and various lengths of cable.
  7. It’s strange but I have never got on with Fender flats either before or after they were made by D’ Addario. I might give the Dunlop’s a try although I was not impressed with their acoustic guitar strings.
  8. Chris sold me a speaker and was so easy to deal with. I wish he woukld open a music shop.

  10. NoI had help from a Greek whose Gnome I don't remember.
  11. I am sure I have seen a similar shade somewhere Elf but cannot find a Trace of it.🤢
  12. If your band is pumping out lower than 86dB you need to try harder.
  13. Pat has been! Orders now being taken....
  14. Whether you choose a straight mains step down transformer or design a Switch Mode Power Supply with multiple isolated outputs, the transfomers are non standard and hence expensive. However not every output needs to be isolated. For example on my board I have a Zoom B1ON pedal and a Smoothound as well as a Marshall ED1 Compressor (with mods for bass) Plus a Behringer BD-I21. If both the Zoom and Smoothound are connected to the power supply, there is noise. If either is removed and powered by another power supply, the noise is reduced. So two or more isolated banks would cure the problem and that is much easier. However your power requirement would need a transformer of about 100VA and that is both big and weighty unless you apply some sort of contentiion ratio where you assume that not all outputs will be at fullpower al the time.
  15. You are right, I seelcted the wrong ad. Most sellers claim that model to be isolated.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Guitar-Effects-Pedal-Power-Supply-Board-10-Way-Isolated-9V-12V-18V-Output-UKPlug/353170164284?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D228436%26meid%3D0352a74b39c040e79d38ebd2332abcb2%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D402268232124%26itm%3D353170164284%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithBBEV1Filter%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  16. The power supplies I was refering to are these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caline-Electric-guitar-Effect-Pedal-Board-10-Way-Power-Supply-9V-12V-18V-Output/402268232124?hash=item5da90e19bc:g:u2oAAOSwNbZd4Jgs These, and other similar ones, are not isolated and do not remove the noise carried on the power rails from mone pedal to another. It would be easy to blame the Zoom, Smoothound et al for these problems. However the design of many analogue pedals pays no heed to the need for proper power supply rejection. It is the responsibiluity os a manufacturer to both reduce the interferenxce that their product produces and also to protect their own product from the effects of that interference.
  17. I have read the thread and thought it was relevant considering we were discussing power supplies.
  18. No but it is relevant as we were discussing power supplies.
  19. Yes you have to be sure that you use a true isolated supply. The £25-30 ones around say they are isolated but that is only for protection. The problem occurs with digital pedals and seems worse when two are used such as a Zoom and a Smoothound. Also be aware that the Smoothound uses positive centre in the power. Most pedals use centre negative sadly.
  20. I have bought some of OBBM’s remaining stock including Neutrik Jack and Speakon connectors. and have reasonable stocks of Sommer Cable and HiCon Connectors. so if anyone wants cables made, let me know.
