  1. Could be interested in pedal or gadget trades - whaddya got?
  2. To punch in: Create a selection with your cursor for the section you want to punch in. Select Options up the top and choose the recording type Overdub Selection (or something similar) rather than Normal. Arm the track, put the cursor line a few bars back, hit record, start playing. Of course I rarely use this feature... EDIT: Yeah that zooming thing drives me nuts too, the thing to remember is that the result of a scrolling gesture depends on where the cursor is at the time. If you want to move up and down the tracks, put the cursor over the track number.
  3. Guilty as charged - over 2ft of shelf space taken up by books I've barely looked at. It's clearly a 'thing'.
  4. Brian bought some cables from me. Nice clear comms and prompt payment made for a transaction as smooth as a very smooth thing
  5. Graeme bought a cab from me, paid promptly and let me know when it arrived safely. Successful transaction 1 - hassle NIL
  6. It turns out I have accumulated a lot of these! This is what I've got, all tested and good: 2off 30cm 50p each 2off 40cm 50p each 2off 90cm 70p each 2off 1.1m 90p each 2off 1.5m £1 each 1off 3m £1.50 1off 4.4m £2.00 2off 5m (1 black, 1 red) £2.00 1off 6m £2.00 No extra for postage, but minimum order value £6. First come, first served.
  7. I bought this when I had a bit more in the way of MIDI hardware devices, but while I was doing a bit of cable-fettling I realised I now only had one old-school MIDI thing, and therefore this is now surplus to requirements. It is a rock-solid interface as you would expect from MOTU, and has performed flawlessly while it has lived in my smoke-free home studio. (I can't claim to have a pet-free home, but the cat stays out of my studio because he doesn't like me, so I'm pretty sure he has never used it.) The unit is easy to set up for PC or Mac, runs from USB power, and can be left to its own devices most of the time. The handy numbers on the front light up to tell you which INs and OUTs are active. There are 4 sets of MIDI sockets on the back for permanent use, and another pair on the front intended for temporary patching-in. In excellent condition with the original box, manual, half-rack mounting kit, and unused 10ft USB cable. I will also include the installer CD, but tbh this might now be out-of-date, and any necessary software can be found here. Yours for £85 £75 including insured delivery to mainland UK.
  8. I bought this cab direct from Barefaced in 2013. You can find the full spec here. I have used it paired with a Barefaced Compact (1x15), or on its own. Used alone with a decent amp (in my case, Ampeg 50W valve or Demeter 800W Class D) it is perfectly capable of filling a large hall. And it weighs only 9kg. Barefaced suggest using it with an amp in the 150W-600W range - I seem to recall the thermal maximum was around 400W. At some point it may struggle to compete with your own version Keith Moon or John Bonham, but it is still a very capable cab. It has the more expensive (and lighter) vintage-style grille cloth and comes with a Roqsolid cover which has done a grand job of protecting it when travelling to and from gigs in my car. The cover has worn through in one spot (see photos). There is some light scuffing to the handle mounts. Why am I selling? I now have a Barefaced Super Twin for larger gigs, and a Barefaced One 10 for smaller ones. Much as I would love to keep the Midget, I need the cupboard space, and my toy fund is running low from lack of gigging! Yours for £329 including insured delivery to mainland UK.
  9. Thanks for sharing, this is one of the songs I have to learn for a proposed post-lockdown 80s-based party band project!
  10. I don't know whether 30in strings would fit the Squier.
  11. Ooh... Anyone planning to try one? 28.6in scale, £139 from GAK.
  12. Nice work! I think you have a typo in the last bar - A13 chord should read Ab13.
  13. To paraphrase Pete Thorn (can't find the video right now), the three elements of a good gig (in the ongoing sense) are: The music The money The craic (or 'the hang' as he puts it) If you have all 3, you're golden. Any 2 is good, because they compensate for the shortcomings in the other one. But just one is rarely enough. Assess your pub band experience against these criteria - what does it score on a scale of 0 to 3?

  15. Wow, that's a fantastic resource, thanks for the link!
  16. 01 Ever played a gig sitting down? Yes - (a) big band gigs, and accompanying a choir - however my Rat music stand also gave me the option of standing; (b) when I had pulled a muscle in my back. 02 Ever gigged on a different instrument? Frequently on skinny-string guitar. 03 Ever shared a stage with a musical hero of yours? No. 04 Any fan ever had a tattoo of your band's logo? Never had a band logo, so no. 05 Ever signed an autograph in a dressing room? Possibly. On the country music club circuit, the audience is somewhat elderly, and a surprising number still have adult offspring with learning disabilities living with them. It is not unknown for said offspring to want autographs and phots with the band, but usually this takes place at the front of the stage. 06 Ever cried on stage? No, but I have cried unashamed tears of joy at a couple of concerts I have attended. 07 Ever worn a hat on stage? Frequently - cowboy hat at most country gigs. However I do not subscribe to the apparently common belief that a pork pie hat (or similar) instantly transforms a middle-aged male band member into a paragon of cool. 08 Ever gigged with a band you hadn't met before the gig? Yes, a few times. 09 Ever been in a relationship with a fellow band member? No. 10 Ever played in different bands on the same day? Yes. 11 Ever had anything thrown at you while playing? No. Well not that I know of. 12 Ever crashed on the way to the gig? Yes. Backing up to the venue to unload, took out the offside rear of my car on a stone wall, despite having parking sensors. 13 Ever left a band over the choice of set list? No. 14 Ever slept in the venue despite it not being a hotel? No. 15 Ever been supported by a band clearly better than you? Rarely been the 'headliner', consequently no. 16 Ever played a gig suffering from some debilitating medical condition? Yes. Went down with a fever on a dep gig once, spent the breaks hugging the radiator. Also have sneezed so hard from hay-fever that that I whacked my headstock on the top of my amp. 17 Ever been in a band where the guitarist was your favourite bandmate? Yes, but it was a 3-piece, which doesn't say much for the drummer. 18 Ever played in the grounds of a stately home? Yes, a few times in my function bad days. 19 Ever injured yourself on stage? A couple of months ago I badly pinched my RH pinky in my guitar stand whilst setting up. No sticking plasters, so had to gaffer-tape my finger. The tape then kept catching on my scratch-plate when I played. On that particular gig, that was actually the least of my worries! The other day I found some of the dried blood on my guitar neck and scraped it off. 20 Ever been told that your bass isn't loud enough? Yes, about as often as I have been told it was too lud.
  17. For me it wasn’t long between installing Reaper and deciding it was well worth paying for. It costs way less than a lot of other DAW programs anyway.
  18. Thanks for doing this @Zoltan Dekany I reckon to know my scales but I'm finding your position shift options really useful. Thanks also for not promoting 1-finger-per-fret - that's a recipe for tendonitis! (EDIT - I meant particularly at the headstock end of the fretboard.)
  19. Er, no!
  20. A guy I know has an SVL Brent-Mason-ish 3-pickup Tele. It’s pretty darned fine.
  21. Ooh I didn’t know Simon was making basses now! Given that all my bass guitars are basically Precisions (see signature) I’ll happily grab any of them. Having said that, my ‘73 P has that ‘comfortable old pair of shoes’ thing going, so that’s my nomination.
  22. I heartily recommend Reaper DAW software. Free for as long as you like, cheap when you buy it, less than 20MB download, massively customisable - Mac or Windows, 32-bit or 64-bit. You can even carry a working copy round on a memory stick.
