1.
Hi Dave I just wondered what lacewood is like to work with? I think it is a lovely looking wood (I have a lacewood bass), I imagine it is a bit like mahogany, but does the lighter grain cut differently? BTW, I think the inset fingerboard is a cracking idea, I've not seen it before. Cheers Jules
Hi Jules It's really nice the grain can pull out a little when run through the thicknesser but it's never any more than 0.5mm so easy to sand out later. Very stable, and finsihes great. I've got quite a bit of lacewod, if you're ever passing Worcester you can have some for free to try out Ta Dave
2. The wenge is beautiful but a total bugger to work with!! I like bound fretboards and was trying to think of something different from the normal binding that wasn't over the top and thought this might look cool, I think it look better in real life. The bass is meant to be not to flash and the inlay FB is quite subtle (in my eyes..) Yes the end of the fretboard is angled after the 21st fret and will slope down to end flush with the walnut top - bit like some of the sei basses. Ta Dave
3.
Be interesting to watch this come together. Are you hollowing it out?
Yes, it will help keep the weight down a bit!! but still isnt going to be a lightweight....
4. Had a week off work so started on a 5 string thinline P bass this week through neck with fretboard inlayed into neck Neck - Wenge / Maple Fretboard - Lacewood Body - Wenge Top - Walnut EMG P pickup It's just roughed out at the moment but thought I'd upload some pix anyway Front Back Inlayed fretboard Walnut top
5. I'd be up for it - Based in worcester but could travel about a bit. I think I could get a village hall just 5 minutes off M5 J7 (worcester south junction) if it's not too far for all to travel, its very large got a canteen area for coffee making etc, isolated so noise isnt an issue, loads of parking - and would be very cheap. Dave

9.
Definitely intrigued. What's the string spacing (supposed to be) at the bridge? What pickup configuration is the body routed for?
The body routing is std musicman 5 string pup, it had a delano pickup in it. The neck is the standard musicman 5 string status neck, i've just had a look on status website and cant see what it is. I had a schaller 3d bridge which had adjustable string spacing - so i dont really know what it is - sorry - Ta Dave
10.
Is this neck drilled for this Particular body?
Yes the neck was attached to this one, i've got the neck plate and screws somewhere also Ta Dave
11. I had one, It's the best cab I ever owned - wish I still had it (even though I dont need one) Stunning definition with plenty of bass... It's a bargain
12. Status neck MM5 (4+1) with tuners, drilled for 4 screw fixing - but holes could be filled for different screw arrangements. Couple of little marks on headstock and one small chip. No fret wear, no marks on fretboard or back of neck. £150 OLP MM5 body with bridge and scratchplate only (no pups/knobs etc), scratchplate has an additional hole in it. £40 Away from home for a couple of days so will update with pix later in week if there is any interest. Located in Worcester but could post if necessary. Not really after any trades but always open to offers (but no basses or pedals - I've got enough) really looking for EMG 5 string P pickup, or possibly 5 string J pickups with preamps etc.

15. Hi Guys Just thought you might like details of some cheap quality timbers for building. Trev 01636 821828 near Newark-on-trent Trev is a great guy who used to make very high end snooker tables and other bits and bobs, now retiring and selling off his VAST timber stock - there is a lot there. Nothing too exotic but he's got a lot of high quality mahogany, maple (nothing too flamey), lacewood, walnut (neck sizes only) ash etc etc all suitable for necks and bodies. All old stock so very seasoned quality wood. Well worth checking out as prices are good. He's got a full large workshop so I guess he could cut and plane bits up if needed. His collection is huge so it's well worth a trip to have a rummage around, but he also does delivery at a very good rate. I work up that way from time-to-time and always pop in for a chat and end up with a load in the van. Ta Dave
16. Sorry - posted in wrong section
17. beautiful bass - I love the finish. I think the P pup IS the right way round - I never really understood why the Fender one is the wrong way round (I'm sure I'll get abuse for that) Surley you want the trebble side thicker/bassier sounding and the bass side more defined and less muddy. Love the large pole pieces . Great pair of stunning basses, I do love Sandburgs.
18. I had an Aguilar OBP2 Preamp from Oli - great guy, very easy to deal with. VERY highly recommended. Thanks Dave
19. Top guy - highly recommended. I has a set of Nordstrand pups from Bill, very easy deal.... Ta Dave
20.
A shameless plug for my LAG Collection 5 String currently strung EADGC. Very well made in France in the mid 1980's not one of the far eastern ones. Narrow string spacing about 16mm, neck is very comfortable (for me anyway) only about 3mm wider than my Spector Rebop at the nut.
+1 for the shameless plug... I used to own this (I guess as there cant be many around) It has a very narrow neck and souds amazing!! stunning in real life, photos dont do it justice. I only sold it as it was too narrow for my fat fingers. It's the only bass I sold that I really miss.
21. Hi - we play a lot (covers pub band) butthis is the first 1/2 decent video anyone has ever done of us so I thought I'd stick up a link. It's not here for critical comments of my very average bass playing just for amusement. Although do feel free to throw as much abuse as you want...i wont be too offended....
22. Havent had much sapare time lately due to getting ready to move house but it's now just about done, just a little fettling here and there. The rosewood has come up so well, love it. Rosewood Top Crotch Walnut Back One Piece Neck I didnt want a scratchplate or control cover on back as the back is so pretty so access to control cavity is via the bottom
